  • It's a bit hard to say what to do or not do with wood grain because there are SO MANY techniques you can use to create amazing wood grain. However, I identified some of the common mistakes and things you can try to improve your wood grain when using a chip brush.
When I first did wood grain, I definitely did all of the DON'TS, but I've learned and hope this video will help you too!
For this video I used Rosco Off-Broadway paints and sealed with a Varathane brand gloss sealer.

I love your videos. Can you do one for Painting brick? I have looked far and wide and and have only found one video that's a somewhat decent example of painting brick!

Thanks! Funnily enough the next one I plan to do is brick! I plan to finish it next week, so keep an eye out for it :)

Hi, do you let it dry between layers? And what colours have you used, are they Rosco?

Hi. I made this video a while ago, but for wood I typically use some combination of white with burnt umber, raw sienna, and/or burnt sienna for the base. Glazes and grain depend on what you are going for, but is also usually burnt umber, burnt sienna, van dyke, maybe even raw umber, which you can thin with water or a sealer to make translucent as needed.

Hi, your videos are great, are you using acrylic paints?

Hi! Yes, it's always some form of water based paint, I don't use oil for these :)
