RC Helicopter Autorotation Tips Featuring Matt Botos: TORCHS Cone Clinic #3

At the TORCHS Winter Bash this past weekend in Orlando, we held three "Cone Clinics" at the center stage flying area. Rather than doing orchestrated flying demonstrations, we chose to have improvised seminars highlighting various aspects of Radio Controlled Helicopter flying. These aspects incldude flybarless system tuning (Gain tuning, flip rate, etc), Nitro Engine Tuning, and Autorotations.
This 12 minute clinic was held by Matt Botos- owner and designer of Synergy model helicopters. In this seminar, Matt explains the easiest ways to begin doing autorotaitons with your RC Helicopter. He shows the "baby auto", along with a proper autorotation approach, followed by inverted and aerobatic autos. Lastly, he attempts an on the deck double rolling auto... with a 600 sized heli!

The first time you ever accomplish a auto it is such a good feeling. I still remember the first time, finger was shaking getting ready to hit the throttle hold switch. Once you get down below a certain level, its do or die. I broke a few sets of cheap blades, lol

Lol the second I hit the throttle hold I just fully committed to it cause I wasn't sure what the heli would do when I try to bail out
