I've been looking forward to this one. Uncle Atom is one of my favorites. I've got my copy of SSZ. Bought some necron warriors second hand to use as the adversaries. Adam and Vince have inspired me to work on a rule set for a wargame.
1:46:19 "Some freeways are I-94" I was listening on Spotify and had to come over and comment. This was the best, lame joke I've ever heard, and I love that it totally broke Jon. 😂
Jon your wisdom about setting up a gaming league/campaign was GENIUS. I can’t believe you unloaded so much experience and wisdom in such a short time. Thank you for sharing! I’d love to get in on one of these leagues. Where does one go to find this stuff? Is it at The Source? Somewhere organized online, like a FB group?
A word about grognards. (I’m not telling you my age but I’m definitely qualified). It literally means ‘Grumbler’ and was how Napoleon’s veterans - specifically the Old Guard - referred to themselves. I have yet to hear an American pronounce it correctly; the second g should be soft. To put it another way, the gn combined sound like the Spanish n with tilde as in señor. The final d is also soft: just forget it’s there. ‘Gron-yar’ would be close, or at any rate an improvement.
For rewarding painting, I always go with the rule ties are decided by the person with the more painted army. If both are equally painted, you roll a dice or flip a coin.
Fun fact: Eric Lang who wrote the rules for bloodrage was a lead designer for bloodborne board game. It also turned out so much better than the dark souls board game.
1:44:48 I also use to have that ''why would you want to play regular humans (imperial guard)'' mentality, but my friend layed it up like, yeah it's normal humans facing of against brutal aliens and other superhumans how cool is that?!. like the under dog fighters against impossible odds. So kind of changed my prespective a bit, but still, Imperial guard will probably still be the last army i get if we count every spacemarine faction as one, can't be botherd to paint the same models again, in a different colour.
You are making jokes about that Bushido design, but you could take a look on the miniature line there! They are great! I wish that at least one youtuber would paint them, because they would deserve it... (Sidenote: the rules are also great)
I zoned out there for a minute before the ad read….my name is Jeremy and Jon calling out i freaked and yelled “WHAAAT?!”. lol luckily the wife and daughter sleep like rocks.
I wish people would provide PDF rulebooks without *any* background. It slows down scrolling on phones and makes printing take more ink for something I care nothing about. Para Bellum has done this for their First Blood rules. If you load both the web and print version on your phone and scroll both it's a massive quality of life improvement when you are looking something up while playing.
We just started our escalation league this week and it's points based so we get points for playing points for posting pictures to our discord and points for playing with a painted army
Note: Technically, 40k has been teaching via skirmish since at least the early-2000s. I learnt on a table in the store (from a staff member) when I was like 11 back in 2006. He taught me with (I think) 10 Marine Squads and some kind of other figures (such as HQ). Worked out just fine.
Scott I have a warning ⚠️ Very soon John will say "Scott just buy a commander deck, it's all you need to play...only$50 and your in. don't you want to play with us?" , I hear it from my gaming friends that are hooked MTG every Tuesday night..
My dudes warhammer alliance is free, its just sent out to schools. The minis included are the usual free typical monopose things some base colours and really basic (horrible) brushes, dice and magazines. I've been running a club using them at my college the last couple years.
You dudes should check out moonbreaker if you haven’t. It’s a digital minis game that just went into early access where you can paint the minis virtually. It’s super cool and I think you would dig it. Peace
I've ran several club level events, leagues, and tournaments and have to warn you about hobby fatigue. I find GW games function best at 1k and 2k events: if you want a slow grow league, just set 500 points per month, then gift an additional CP for showing up painted. However, celebrate those milestones by organizing a 1k and 2k games day so people can battle and show off their stuff. I've had more people get models done for those Games Days than any other structured system.
When it comes to escalation leagues, you can't reward the winners of a game as stronger players get stronger and the weaker players/armies fall further behind. You need to look at it more like bowling or golf with handicaps, making weaker generals/factions more competitive.
"Grognard" is a term originally from the Napoleonic French army, where it referred to the old soldiers. It translates as "grumbler". Which is appropriate on several levels for "experienced" gamers. Why would I choose to play humans in SF rather than space demons? Well, it's because I want to play science fiction, not space wizards casting space fireballs at space goblins. Science fantasy is a genre separate from science fiction, GW (and Paizo's Starfinder, etc.) notwithstanding.
It was really great to hear you both talk about broadening the hobby. To support that goal, would you both consider only painting ABW (Anything But Warhammer) models for the next 6 or 12 months?
"This guy from Cursed City eats corpses specifically. Which is awesome" "That can't be good for the guy biome" "No it can't be." Its confirmed people, Scott and John only eat meat that is still alive.
Trapped Under Plastic: The podcast where the hosts make announcements like 80's radio DJ's, the guests are artists treated like rock stars, the narration is sexy like ASMR, and the mouth noises remain exquisitely disgusting.
after having a few debates with people, I think I may give up this hobby for a decade. no joke, I'm almost 23 and I have found nobody younger than 28 in this hobby, and most of the people that are in the hobby are literally a decade older than me or more. the best way I can explain it to people is "imagine if your favorite video game was the only video game and everyone in it was 10 or more years older than you" and that seems to get the point across
Also, those hooked swords are a thing. Monks in Asia used them as part of their fighting style. The li king of the swords was something they did to have a way to keep combatants at bay.
Minute 9:46 here we go again with Jon having an strong opinion about something he knows little about. SBG battletome review vibes again. Path to Glory 3.0 is great Jon get a clue bro! 😂
I thought I was scared of Scott's thighs but Jon's raw chicken thighs are far worse ☠. Plus, Jon wears white socks?!?! You've never really shown your age till now Jon 👴.
Gonna listen to this later in the day when I start my very first mini
as the cringe vtubers say, GANBATTE!!! (it's japanese for you can do it, why do I do this)
How has painting been for you now after a year?
I'm confused, Jon has shorts on and Scott has pants on! OMG what is happening!! 🤣😂🤣
🤯
I noticed the same. Also wtf - do you guys shave your legs or what? Next thing you know these guys will be sponsored by Manscape 😂
@@theanimaster jon-mower 4.0 🤣
Lmao, totally recognized this too
Literally the three painters that got me to finally start painting. This is awesome!
I've been looking forward to this one. Uncle Atom is one of my favorites.

Adam and Vince have inspired me to work on a rule set for a wargame.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
I was so stoked to find Adam is in our old hometown! We will be back there soon.
I'm on the path of opening my own LGC and running mini game nights. Jon's escalation ideas are what I needed to hear. Thanks for sharing.
that space station zero artwork did spark joy, the weapons and look of the clothing was just inspiring
Necromunda is impossible to read! I am glad someone pointed this out.
I have a copy of Space station zero next to me and 6 Papsikels minis I printed for my first crew across the room from me, hype hype hype!
Marvel crisis protocol slaps. Need Ninjon to do paint Malekith for a video
6:06 AKA Arkham Horror LCG's Grim Rule AKA Fantasy Flight's Eff Players Rule.
Grognard. Noun. An Old Soldier. Specifically a member of the Old Guard of Napoleon.
Also one who grumbles. A Veteran.
Uncle Atom is the first CZcamsr in the hobby I started watching.

Catching this at 546 my time just before my commute home.
What's up my fellow nocturnal workers, insomniacs and (yuck) early risers.
The Warhammer Alliance thing is free and only available to schools and libraries, just from looking through the website a bit

But "GROG-nard" is a lot funnier to say - when referring to very crunchy gamers in that way. Thanks for watching!
Scott sporting that crispy Corridor shirt. MN boys repping MN boys gotta love it.

I only just noticed that sprues are behind that wall-logo. I might steal that idea, haha. WALL SPRUES!
John: Any interest in doing a video of a magic card, but the card art is a mini coming up off the card?
YES!
Great stuff friends 👏 👍
You are making jokes about that Bushido design, but you could take a look on the miniature line there! They are great! I wish that at least one youtuber would paint them, because they would deserve it... (Sidenote: the rules are also great)
Oni is a type of Yokai (Japanese/Shinto spirits/demons), and translates directly as Ogre, so you're pretty spot on Scott.
I zoned out there for a minute before the ad read….my name is Jeremy and Jon calling out i freaked and yelled “WHAAAT?!”. lol luckily the wife and daughter sleep like rocks.
the hooked swords are also used in the way you described. its odd but exists.

Post-battle maintenance stuff.... We call that "The Paperwork Phase"
"Homework phase" in these parts.
I-94 joke was fucking fantastic.
Pop down to the Spam Museum in Austin. They have all the available flavors of SPAM
I predict Jon buying the 40k precon decks
That's funny that is actually a skill that they learn for hooked swords. I believe it's been in some movies as well.
New Ogres are coming out too you should wait for new models!
Hobby accomplished..thanks guys.
Great episode guys thanks

You need to go to Bognor for the knobbly knees competition with pins like that...
Warhammer alliance looks to be a school program that you have to apply for to get the box (good for 12 students). Cool program
Yep, very cool. I am a middle school teacher who started a Warhammer club with this product this year. No cost at all to me.
Ninjon stop telling them my cassandora yellow secrets lol
Great video
Warhammer Alliance Box is Free!

Scott , you can't paint 6 Ogres in 30 hours, that's 5 hours a model for game pieces! Great interview
My dudes warhammer alliance is free, its just sent out to schools. The minis included are the usual free typical monopose things some base colours and really basic (horrible) brushes, dice and magazines. I've been running a club using them at my college the last couple years.
Escalation league idea: Those with unpainted models bring snacks and beverages for the rest. come 3 times without, buy dinner. drop out, buy dinner.

I think we were talking about rewarding people who painted their minis, not who won their games? It's been a while, however.
"Dude, I love me some STDs dude". 🤣🤣🤣
I don't think I'm normally OCD, but I found myself staring at that wonky planter on the top left for most of the cast
