I always thought that Fodera was overpriced and a couple of months ago I tried one for the first time. It was a monarch P Bass style in a kinda lake placid blue finish. I’d say it’s more about the feeling, as soon as I put my hand on it I immediately felt the premium building, comfort and playability. Sound wise it was good but nothing crazy compared to a normal pbass. So for me it’s more a feeling and a premium comfort.

Great video Duodos thank you for your time.
Honestly they both sound good. Practically the Chinese bass would be a better buy in terms of
    1) Cost (will take you years 7+ of constant gigging to break even)
    2) Traveling (if it breaks due airline mishandling wont hurt your soul or pocket).
    3) Great back-up
    4) Sounds as good
    Things you must know:
    1) Know how to do basic bass setup (string action and intonation): remember the weather in china is different from other parts of the world so the wood will expand or contract thus needing a setup.
    2) Maybe you'll have to change the pickups (maybe)
    3) Change the strings
At the end of the day you (the player) make the instrument sound good. Buy a fedora if that was always your dream but don't fall into the notion that it will make you sound good.

Theres already been too many sound engineers proving that the vast majority of the basses tone is its pickups. Most companys use machines on their high end basses to make their necks perfect so the playability argument is gone now. I have an Ibanez sr2605 and a Lakland skyline and the neck is amazing on both and they are both around $1500. Charging $3000+ for a bass is getting pretty hard to justify.

Facts sounds wise any bass with balance construction and comfortable neck depending on the player with great matching combo of electronics will produce any tone shapes your looking for. @jasonz1771 Před rokem +1

@@businessofrhythm2315 anything can break, that extra expense does not guarantee anything. There are too many touring professional bassists that use the common brands like, Yamaha, ibanez, fender, spector, warwick etc etc etc to justify Fodera. It's unnecessary lavishness. If a neck is already stable and perfect on a $1600 bass then what is left? Hardware and electronics? That stuff isn't exactly rocket science so your paying for the name and beauty of the bass. Fodera uses pickup companies like EMG and seymour duncan which is even more insulting as you can get that tone by buying these pickups and put them on another bass. They are indeed great basses but no bass is that good.

Fretboard material, construction pup location make a huge difference here, as well as the bridge.
The fretboard of faux dera is rosewood. It’s going to have a darker sound out the gate than the maple board. High mass bridge plus back through construction add to the long sustain of the Imperial. And the location of the pickups changes the tone of the faux dera. These variables don’t allow this to be an apples to apples comparison. But if you have any skill at all it’s clear that the faux dera with a proper set up job is a useful instrument…

Nice and illustrative video, but if it is up to me, much less nice Fodera.
Instruments with nice handcraft, but nothing special that was not seen at basses with much lower prices.
The sound is nice and silky, but where are the bass frequencies? (I will not make listing of my listening equipment here). D2 fat string sometimes go below 35 Hz, but with miserably low dBs.
It is really inappropriate creating bass guitars that do not sound bassy or at last warm. But as long as there are the people that love giving a ton of money for something modestly wrong but shout out as a high-end, I support Fodera.

If the Chinese can make an upright replica that is good enough for Stanley Clark to take on the road, it's just a matter of time before they can do it for the bass playing market.

as long as the neck is straight , has a good truss rod , and the body is a good solid wood , why would you spend thousands on a Fodera , just get a copy , change out all the hardware if you must and the pickups to name brand better pickups. Then be very happy for like maybe 600 dollars , done.

Play what you have and save your pennys. If it's your desire to own a Fodera bass, get a Fodera. Don't settle. The thing is: when you buy these Chinese basses it's a crap shoot(roll of the dice). You may get a decent one or you may get a really bad one. If you buy a real Fodera the quality will be impeccable and if there is anything that's off , Fodera will make it right. See Johnny Lee Long's video.

  • @glenngreenstein6825

This is just beyond redic. Anyone who h1as been playing for a while knows most of the tone you get is from your fingers. If I play Victor Wooten's bass, I will not sound like Victor because I don't have Victor's hands. The reason you buy a Fodera is not to sound like Victor Wooten, it is you appreciate the craftsmanship, the type of electronics and the exotic woods they use, not to sound radically different from what you are playing now. I walk into stores all the time and pick up a $1000 Warwick and then play a fender mustang and they sound pratically the same unless one has round wounds and the other has flat wounds because I get the tone from my hands, not the bass.

  • @TheTMontgomery
    @TheTMontgomery Před 4 lety +3

I disagree with both comments I think that excellent bass players and playing often allow poor equipment to sound better and occasionally the more expensive equipment creates some player prejudice in the attack style and passion of play.
I think the comparison was fair showing the tone and clarity for any style of playing.
The Original Cleary has superior note clarity but that may not be the desired tone in the mix.

Spend 1/4 of a million on a sports car to go to work and everyone will be impressed. spend 10K on a bass guitar and everyone wants you to justify it. Buy what you want, its only you that really needs to justify it. As for the Chinese copy, Will likely to need some work to get it to play well. But for some people that is half the fun.
