How to Paint Lion El’Jonson, Primarch of the Dark Angels…in a simple way!

Welcome to another Warhammer Community approved paint job made into a tutorial! When GW sent me Lion El’Jonson and his retinue I didn’t waste any time painting this guy up in his regal black armour! Primarchs might seem daunting but they’re really just large characters that require an extra bit of time, not talent to look good! My channel has always been about using simple tips, no matter what the model is, and this is a great example! This isn’t the first primarch(or the last) I’ve painted on the channel so make sure you check out the others too!

Wicked paint job mate. It’s just so frustrating that GW can’t get their supply chain sorted out, so people can actually get the models in hand.
Ye I seen how quick he sold out kind of a pain just Remember it’s a different allotment of stock for shops. So he will be on shelves in your local store next weekend so maybe you can grab one there.

I love both green and black schemes for him, I'm tempted to paint him a dark green using the previous tutorials to march the art on the book. I haven't fully decided.
That’s what I wanted to do but I figured most people would do the black so I caved. Should have stuck to my guns.

Love your vids. Very easy to follow. The xenothol highlight is an area that I mess up…could you make a vid/painting tutorial with a dry brush xenothol set up as I can’t get the rattle can thing right!!? Thanks man. You’re the bizzo!

That’s great the video helped change your mind! Remember it’s just a large character model. Put aside a little bit extra time, and it’s the same skills you would use for painting any other model! If you have any other questions let me know and best of luck, you got this!

tried to pick up a lion model but it along with everything else became unavailable very quickly lol. not sure what GW is doing there but at least we can enjoy someone elses great painting cheers man
Remeber it’s not the same stock as stores so there will be lions on shelves next Saturday in most hobby shops so maybe try and grab one there. But yes it does for sure Seam like they did it make enough lol

These vids have helped me to paint bravely. It's daunting to dive into complex models but the only way to get better is to put some paint down. Thanks for giving me the courage to dive deeper into my pile of shame!

Not sure on the armour, but the sword is one of the many weapons they Dark Angels horde away in the Rock. Think the armour is the same, just one of many suits he has. I remember them talking about wanting to keep it unique and separate to the Heresy model.
I believe this skirts around his waist are just that skirts, often used by knights/soldiers for parade dress. It's also pretty common across many fantasy/sci-fi knight factions.
I have read the lion book and want to be careful what to say for spoilers. But some of it still doesn’t make sence.

Some of it will be made much more clearer in The Lion: Son of the Forest, his first 40k novel appearance. @@madmerlinsart ok cool so like since he has been back he hasn’t come back to the dark angels or the rock. Until the end of the book. Yet he has the sword shield and armour already. I just wonder if there is more to there story’s.

@@MediocreHobbies Badgers have always played a large part in sci fi and fantasy. The original Peter Jackson scene for Return of The King had a very different undoing for the Witch King on the fields of Pelenor:
Witch King : [taking Eowyn by the throat] You fool. No man can kill me. Die now.
[takes a step forward and trips over a passing badger, falling upon his own blade]
Badger: snuffle, grunt, snuffle ("I am no man!")
What color did you use for th3 cream colores cape? You showed skeleton horde but said a different color.
What ever paint I showed is what I used. Must have slipped up when I was talking.
Do you have a paint list for this yet?
Can you make one from the video, won’t have time for that for a while with all the new content coming out
Did you glue the head on or did you magnetize it? I cant decide which on I like the best! Either helmet with hood or helm without the hood
There is a little plug thing so nether it’s just resting on. I also do not wish to comit to one head so will be doing them all.
Do you have a list of paints you used for it ?
It’s coming, trying to catch up on everything after Fest now and will be adding paint lists into recent videos that we didn’t have time to do before it!

May I ask what part was to complicated? I hate hearing that I try to make them as accessible as possible.
It’s not you mate, it’s me, when I copy what you do and I get to the end mine never looks anything close to yours even on basic models, I finished a rhino tank but my chip damage don’t look like yours ha ha
I started yesterday to follow your guide for my Lion model!! I still do not understand how you use Corvus Black thou: do you use it to highlight the edges of the armour or is it used on the flat areas, leaving the contrast effect to the edges?
It's used on the flat areas, and the contrast is left as a shadow in the edges and the recesses because the Corvus Black is brighter than the contrast paint. Hope this makes sense?
Can the upper body with the cloth be assembled separate from the lower body or are they molded? He’s sold out in the US and I’ll just get him when he’s separate.

Was corvus black used on all armour pieces or just the centres of the armour

Hi hoping you see this, im about to follow this scheme and ive been and bought all the paints, but when you go to paint the cloak you say you use aggoras dunes, but you show the skeleton horde pot, could you please clarify which one you used if you see this ☺️
Always go by what you see, not by what I say when I’m recording at the end of a long day 😂

Kinda sad that this miniature is everywhere on youtube but sold out in a few mins.
Yeah it seemed like a fairly limited run with his retinue but he’ll be out on his own pretty soon as a normal model to buy anyway!
the dark angels were always in green armor, it's just that pre heresy it's described to be such a dark green that it's mistaken as black which is why the top edges are given a green highlight on the official paint scheme
In the heresy and crusades they had black armour. Not green at all.
It was definitely black. Some marines on Caliban who were sided with Luther had changed their armour to green for a bit but that didn’t last long.
