    From a beginner experience, my first machine was manual and second was electronic, If i were a teacher id have my students aim for a manual machine first machine. I’ve had my automatic (one dial) machine for little while know and i can get by because my first manual (8 dials) machine. Changing settings in the middle of a weld was sooo helpful compared too doing all that with a single dial. The difference in using a single dial for your weld settings compared to an allocated single dial is nigh and day..one is a conscious the other being subconscious, obviously the subconscious being the multi dial.
    i watched many videos, but i would say starting with a manual machine gave me the most understanding welding.

I find them to snap up the arc so easy, and thus lasting longer with use on some big pieces I’m doing. Lol welds look great to me! Trying to figure out what’s up with my problem of extreme oxidizing right now. I with a stubby gas lense and #8 cup I need the gas set to around 50 cfh to not have the grey. Going to check a couple of things but it seems like either i have a bad gauge, a leak somewhere, atmosphere entering somewhere or maybe an improper set up. Tungsten was out just under 1/2” and moving it in Didn’t seem to make much difference. Going to have to do some diagnosing.

    The surface colour is determined by the thickness of the oxide coating, which is rransparent, but with a thickness so close to the wavelength of visible light that it diffracts and interferes with it. This is true also of titanium. Some birds and butterflies have surfaces that diffract light in the same way. Thanks for this vid, BTW. Do you think it's possible to achieve a perfect weld of almost any colour on 1.5 to 3 mm stainless steel sheet?

I thought I was doing everything right but now think the gas was set too high, 25 - 30 CFH. I'm guessing you didn't hammer the pedal to the floor through the whole thing. That bit of finesse is huge in the outcome.

  • @shaneanderson1036
    @shaneanderson1036 Před 3 lety

    you should setup the machine and hoses over head on a sliding track . rollers mounted in a track with your hoses inside a plastic flex to prevent kinking . make the last 2m of hose easily reach your bench height . this way there’s no hose in the way and it’s suspended so as if the hose falls it doesn’t smash on the floor ! further more mount the track onto a boom hinged at the wall so it covers all the work area . believe me once you have a boom holding the hoses up you will never go back to dragging hoses around the floor !

    Very helpful and interesting video, but, please, can you make a more detailed one including machine settings, depending on material thickness and stuff like that. I'm a total newbie, I saw a ton of helpful videos with lots of helpfull and useful tips. I am busting my butt to respect all of the rules and never seem to come up with a decent looking weld not even on mild steel, not to mention stainless.
    I saw you using small cups and not having the slightest problem in coming up with amazing looking and colorful beads, meanwhile I struggle with much larger cups and gas lens and I'm still not even close to decent, not to mention good looking.
    Us noobs would appreciate very much a total novice dedicated tutorial video. Covering the right steps to take learning and trying to become better velders, basically how to keep going with the high level of frustration that being a novice TIG welder implies.

    So heres something I'm confused about, when I'm trying to get colorful Welds I usually have to take the gas off of the welds within 1 or 2 seconds of it not glowing red-hot anymore. if I keep the gas covered on the weld any longer than that will just be shiny silver or maybe gold and I don't get any colors but when I remove the gas prematurely I always get pops of purple and red and blue which directly contradicts what you say, to keep the gas on for 5-7 seconds after it stops glowing. What am I going wrong? Is it not enough heat? Are my weld just not staying hot long enough?

    So let’s say my job requires sanitary welding (dairy product) I’m assuming the science behind it, is that I can’t really do colors because I have to displace all oxygen no? I would love to make weld art but if my job requires something that will nullify I would have to find a way to do this on my own, thank you!

    try using oils on the metal surface . very small amount of oil such as auto trans oil rub it into the work area . the slightest residue makes rainbow colours on the surface weld .

    I’m using an Eastwood TIG200 and I cannot get any color in my welds even after trying these tips, no matter what my amperage is, high or lower than it should be my welds still come out colorless. I’ve played with amperage/travel speed ALOT and still can’t get it, also I cranked the gas flow up to 40 with a Pyrex cup and still the same result, I’ve played with the clearance effect also. Whats perplexing is the same settings in AC does perfect absolutely no contamination, just to preface that I do use a different grinder when switching between ac/dc so it can’t be cross-contaminated. Anyone have any ideas? I’ll take any at this point I just want to make my turbo manifold already lmao

    Do you have to have to foot pedal to get results like this?

      Nope! Just a more meticulous setup with upslope and downslope to get it dialled with timing your gas:)
