Oh thank you Justin for the long form. I really have missed them.
Agree👌
Not that I like to see people struggle but honestly I appreciate this video having all of those awkward moments of, dropping the filler, having to position yourself on your head, and just all of the weird ways you had to put the pipe to weld it. It makes me feel better that even professionals struggle with the same things that I have problems with when I'm just a hobbyist and occasionally weld stuff like this. Not many show that in their videos.
I'm building my first roll cage (i.e. completely ruining a perfectly good car), and I often have your show playing in my garage while I work. Thanks for doing this--it helps!
Exactly the type of content I was hoping to see. Thanks man.
I own a custom exhaust shop and it's great to see this quality of work. awesome video!
Both arc shots look good mate. Thanks for taking the time for fixing it up.
Loved it. You're sound much more chill when you're just talking while working, with a lot less "or whatever the case"es. 😂
A few months ago I did a stainless exhaust on my truck. Yeah there's definitely different qualities of stainless out there I did play with Tig on mine for a little bit but ultimately wound up getting Tri gas and Mig welded the rest for the sake of time. I did purge the tubing either way but maybe I didn't give it enough time to fully purge.
Another banger of a video. Nice to see some classic TFS youtube content. Love the new stuff, but i miss the old stuff. 🤘🤘
Thanks for the long format and seeing the whole project through. Picked up a tip on stop going down hill. Ive made tgat mistake for years and never thought of the consequences of the shielding gas pulling atmospheres down into the weld. Keep up the good work.
Hell yeah! That nostalgia, loving the long form!
One thing to consider when you are questioning the metal "quality" is that some of the material may be a 400 series stainless steel rather than a 300 series stainless steel. The main difference is the lack of Nickel in the 400 series. Also, the Carbon content may also be affecting your welding.
PS: Great video. I have started doing aluminum fabrications and it is challenging at times. All that practice welding that I did on the coupons has really paid off. Even today, I will take a break and just weld beads on some coupons, some for practice in different positions, others to warm up before welding on a critical fabrication.
While youre not wrong, it is worth noting that Chineseium is crap regardless of the grade. If they advertise 304 or 316, you can be sure it is 300 series... and thats about it 😂
@@chriso1373 A few percentage points in alloying element content, such as the difference in Cr and Ni content in 304 vs 316 really will not create a big difference in weldability. However, the difference in Ni content between 3XX and 4xx will make a big difference as most common 3XX have between 8% and 12% Ni while most 4XX has less than 0.5% Ni. I do agree that with commodity items from China for which there are no documentation requirements, the tramp elements may be excessive and cause problems.
Justin, it takes a big man to admit to making mistakes. Great Video as always.

Best answer🤣
Great work! I do like the longer unedited format.
Always said fit up and prep are 90% of good welding. Make every weld better than your last.
Thanks Justin! I enjoy watching these, one day I'll tig a stainless exhaust, my aluminum tig is getting pretty good, I learned MIG in college and TIG from youtube : )
TFS FTW.
If you don't have the ability to purge Solar Flux is an awesome product! It's a powder that needs to be made into a paste to cover the joints on the back side of your welds. I used it on my turbo manifold with sch10 stainless and was very happy with how well it worked
I really miss this style of vid. Would love to see a full video like this of planning and building a motorcycle exhaust.
How did I miss this video for a week, always great content
Wooo hooo. Best. Please keep these coming. Miss them so much and i find i learn more from these types of videos..
Justin, I like the long videos as there is so many tricks to pick up, another great one, Thanks.
Missed this so much man !!! Thank you
Greetings from Croatia !!!!
Nice work Man.
I finally got to use my bech top welding plate today 👍
I'm glad you took on this job... just reminded me of the old episode when you did the cage and front tube the nissan and made the strut tower
Yes definitely liked the long format. With the talking as you go no edits are just great bread crumbs that will come out as you go thru love your vid’s was still wondering are you thinking about doing another weld with me live I know I will be there plus I do know your busy but I’m kinda tired of watching the same one over and over I can say it by heart now lol anyway thanks for the long format version I pray all is well and tell the crew hey good job
From two knackered knees to another pair, long may you… creak 😊
Definitely can tell the difference for sure cheap stateless versus good stainless much nicer to Weld nice stainless Control uniformity China stuff not so much much harder
Great content
Argon is twice as expensive in England, plus monthly cylinder rental. I know in Australia, After visiting a few years ago, Everything in Australia is very expensive, Jesus Christ! Couldn't wait to get back home
here in denmark the biggest bottles you can get as a private person is 13l. to get the bottle you have to pay about 675$ and to get the bottle exchanged you will have to pay about 125$.
Love it!
So, you fired your editor! 😂
You can always use Nitrogen instead of Argon for back purging, it's much cheaper
Could you also just use CO2?
@@Christoph1888 nope
CO2 has oxygen in it so that will not work. Nitrogen is an inert gas, just like Argon. @@Christoph1888
Great video and I've missed the long-form content. Thanks for bringing it back!
I am curious about Solar Flux B that you have used previously on stainless steel. I have a small 80cu tank and am worried about running out of gas mid way through if I were to backpurge.
It Solar Flux B capable of correctly shielding exhaust piping for the hobbyist or would you still recommend argon purging?
I've had 2 spinal surgeries, so I've gotta be careful of positions and being comfortable, otherwise I'm crippled the next day
I'm roughly in the same boat, 3 full back surgeries and have severe nerve damage below my waist. A comfortable position is a must but sometimes isn't possible depending what you're working on. The day after is always the worst for pain and can barely move. But we love to make awesome things so sometimes it's worth it
I like the long format. "The devil is in the details."
Mr fabricator I have a question have you ever come across a blueprinted exhaust system for a car that was ISO specified like it actually had a blueprint that went with it the reason I ask is it seems like every video I have seen on CZcams outside of yours you explain everything which is something I like it seems like everyone cuts it to fit has there ever been a standardized blueprint for a exhaust system or is it all cut to fit in place
Reckon some sort of a suspended hanging contraption to hold and support exhaust and large long sort of welding jobs would just maybe make welding easier and uniform and pleasurable...my humblest opinion
thanks
for the V band flange would it be worth it to clamp another flange to it so it wont warp?
Or would the dap count help it not warp.
nice job, i only miss the o2 meter .so you know wen you have purget enough .
Quick question... do you ever use autogenous first run on your exhaust systems, and then a pretty cap?? I do mainly sch10 and autogenous purge and then a cup walk over.
Does the purge plug and hose have kink resistance? It looks like when the pipe is sitting on the hose that it might be pinched. Would that impact the arc stability as well as the sugaring?
Would you recommend purging if you are welding lap joints too?
Would you be confident if you would've used the PrimeWeld behind you, to weld that exhaust?
@thefabricatorseries This weekend want to repair a crack that has gone about halfway around the joint entering the muffler (no internal access). It is good quality stainless (Capristo). I've already brushed the outside clean and I've got back purge plugs. Do I cut the joint completely in two so I can wire wheel and acetone the inside free from soot, or do I just blast away? I think cutting is the right way, but I'm worried that the separation and gap from a sawzall could make it tougher to get perfectly aligned and then refitting to the car may be tougher. My skills are hobbyist level with an Alpha Tig 200.
hey what was all that yackety-yack about pink gloves? maybe theres something wrong with my screen but im seeing lavender...
regardless- excellent content!!
Finally back to reality/real world errors/mistakes people do error, fix, correct or start over
Bottle half a size of that yours comes at 80€ here, so roughly speaking around 160 for what you have.. Just saying, not everywhere argon is 52USD or 26USD for smaller bottle, thats like a steal lol.
I hope we get a follow up, I wanted to see the car.
🤌 no sugar!👏
10-15 CFH purge? I have only done as much as 3-5, as per shop protocol. Does higher pressure help at all?
i've mainly heard it just speeds up the fill time. As far as helping, no idea. i'm not sure if the heat will dissipate the gas.
Probably a lot to do with the size of the part. Also if you have perfect fitup, purge gas blowing away your torch gas isnt as big a risk.
just curious you know all your stuff but don't wear an air fed mask is it not mandatory in the us? it is here in the uk although many people don't use them still I wouldn't be without my speed glass now especially when welding stainless
Cut a “pool noodle” and put it on the jack stand to help with scratching the part . Not being a know it all just adding another idea
First, kudos to Justin, how ya doing Master?
Second a woe to scammers: are you done wasting both my and your time yet?
Everyone else: Hi there o/
what did the tungsten say to the doughnut?
i'll be dipped.
Man, it costs me $70 to get my 80cf argon tank filled.
It costs me 29.99 from where I bought the tank but from Airgas it will be 80 or 89 but I didn’t buy the tank from them maybe what makes the difference but I have noticed Airgas is for sure more in everything you can even buy a big tank from prime weld that comes full around 250.00 hope that helps and you find someone closer to you cheaper
😎👍🇺🇲
Dude you got a giant shop and contort yourself when for 200$ you could get a 500lb hoist and slings and weld proper position! Lol just sayin. Luv your vids but you’re crazy! I only bend like a magician if I’m in situ under triple pay.
I do that with painting but never thought about with welding.
You right thanks for the insight that’s the tips I love to run across watching his videos thanks for that I’m new at welding
Meooooow
