I just don’t get Drake’s point to that he didn’t feel like Kendrick’s “rap diss” was real because how he acted when he saw him in person. In the control verse Kendrick literally says i got love for all of you he didn’t go full on violent with him and made it apparent that it was strictly competitive. Drake being petty about it was uncalled for he could’ve just said i respect the competition.

People didn’t realize Kendrick was taking shots at Drake on DAMN. The way I interpreted it, whenever “Kung Fu Kenny” was announced on a song, the song was way more pop and drake like. He was saying “yeah Drake, you do this lame pop shit, I can do it too, make better shit, and be successful at it”.
Go listen to the song ELEMENT. again. The first part of the song starts in a weird minor key, and "kung fu kenny" says weird shit imitating drake like "imma make it look sexy". Then at around 2:30, kendrick switches to his real persona (He even says it, "niggas thought they weren't gonna see me huh"). After that, it's all straight shots "Cause most of y'all ain't real (talking about drake's ghost writers) "Most of y'all throw rocks and try to hide your hand, just say his name and i promise that you'll see candyman" Well we're about to see candyman dawg.
There are other signs to at 3:02 in the song, the beat switches back to the minor key and kung fu kenny says "If i gotta slap a pussy-ass nigga, I'ma make it look sexy" He's slappin drake while making it look sexy like drake does. Finally, go listen to Drop and give me 50. Notice how we starts the song off with a weird ad lib that sounds like the one kendrick used in DAMN?

That “Whoo Kid” in the beginning of “Drop & Give Me 50” is just a signature tag he uses for exlusive releases. If you listened to mixtapes back in the 2000-2013 you heard that tag a lot. It’s not diss material.

In my opinion you can go further back than control, on take care kendrick has an interlude where he's kinda talking about how he feels about drakes success and hes pretty honest he's a lil envious of his success - perhaps thats where it kinda stems from - also thats kinda where the weekend beef starts too i guess since take care was a lot of the weekends album. I don't think anyone was aware of how much of a snake Drake could be. I think they fundamentally don't like him. The response from Ross highlighted this. They haven’t made that jump yet and they are already multiple albums in. So I’m guessing not. They are great artist but you need to be able to break into the mainstream conversation over the course of your career and I’m not sure if any of them will do it. Big 3 requires mainstream success. Not only that Kenny and Denzel don’t have that co-sign from a mainstream legend. JID only has that and I’m not sure if that will help him break into the mainstream
