There has been a lot of confusion about which role some players are favored to be in this coming season but Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce set the record straight on a couple of them. - Sport
Pierce is straight shooter with the media and his players. Hope he stays that way
I feel like so many people are conditioned by the misdirection some people do they think that's what AP is doing...but when he says something...he means it.
What is AP supposed to say, we don’t have a number 1 quarterback. He chose Aiden and he got the job with Aiden but if minshew shows AP he is better I bet you AP starts minshew. If Aiden is better than minshew, we will have no problem scoring 28 points a game. I seen minshew put up 30 plus on Dallas, Baltimore, Cleveland, all the supposed to be good defensive he has played very good against. I expect the 🏆 regardless of the starting quarterback. Football is a team sport. And if Aiden starts, I like our chances because I think both capable of playing very good with the team we have.

Minshew did have 3 rushing TDs, but AOC should be the starter. He is going to prove the haters wrong.
Bowers and Powers will make all rookie team. Trey, Richardson, and Laube will all contribute big time. Oh, and that Buckeye Stud will also. Man, that was a great draft in my opinion, will see 3 years from now.

A lot of delusional Raider fans need it slowly broken down for them like this because they flat out refuse to believe O'Connell has any chance to start. I can't wait for the season to start, I was loudly rooting for O'Cannon to start over Jimmy G at the start of last season. I really like his resolve, a lot of his mistakes are early and then you can see him turn something on inside himself. The Raiders are all in on him and so am I. If things don't go well, I've always been a Minshew fan and think he's probably the best backup in the league.

Meanwhile I watch every game every year start to finish, even when we're being absolutely blown out and I have literally only seen losing seasons or first round playoff exits, I've never seen the Raiders go deep in the playoffs with my own two eyes. I gotta give AP and Telesco their props. As Raiders fans on the outside, we all fall into that trap of Daniels or Penix. And we all get so locked in that we forget about the bigger picture. We're not scouts. We're not in meetings. We're fans, and we can only hope the draft goes our way. This draft didn't gothe way we hoped, but it didn't have to. The draft did make us more competitive even if the haters at ESPN and the NFL Nework don't think so. But they are in the same place we are in as Raiders fans, on the outside trying to peek in!! But if you break everything down up to this point. AOC isn't a scrambler. Ok, but he can still make every throw in the game. He was showing that as a rookie. His ceiling his higher than he's getting credit for. Minshew is an upgrade at the backup position. And, Anthony Brown is someone who has been grossly underestimated since he came into the league. While most teams had most of their players off on vacation, most of the Raider players were at the facility putting in work. Yes, some guys took a week or two off, but most were back before their two weeks were up! Maxx had all the D-line guys working out. AOC was in the building before Minshew even signed. Plus him and DA and some of the other WRs were hanging out. Look, I get it. We all wanted this crazy draft where Daniels or Penix came to us, and we got this some big name, CB, or what have you. The truth is, we got the younger version of Travis Kelce to pair with the younger version of Gronk. Then paired them with Davante Adams and Jacoby Meyers, Trey Tucker, Gallup, and others. Then, we drafted a first round talent O-linemen in the second round, then added depth from there. This was not the ESPN or NFL Network version of the Raiders draft. This was AP saying here is my big picture for this team Tom, help me get here! And they have done that sooner than later. And I know some of you are wishing we had lost more games. Then, we wouldn't have AP. He always says, "trust the process." So, let's keep cheering him on. We got the right man in the chair, now, let's give him the keys, turn this bad boy on, and be like E-Z say, Rolling in our 6-4!!! Oh, and of course....... JUST WIN BABY!!! GET HYPE Raider Nation! We're going to shock the world this season!!
Totally agree! Two other things I would add to this for Raider fans to hopefully consider, is the fact that AOC was thrown into the first game against the Chargers and lost, but after we fired McDaniels our new leader at HC put AOC out there over Jimmy G. He obviously sees stuff we don’t see inside the building, to your point cause we’re on the outside, so I trust what he’s doing and agree that AOC has a high ceiling that I believe would surprise the NFL this season. Secondly, AOC was getting play calls from a QB coach who initially was calling plays from the field, then switched to the booth after a few games which further shows his inexperience for play calling. Also, on top of that, not only did the new OC not know where the hell he wanted to call plays from, but it wasn’t even HIS PLAYBOOK. So, Raider fans should keep that in mind, that the offense was probably harder to fully grasp for a ROOKIE QB, who didn’t have stability from the offensive coaches, and also probably didn’t have the same amount of reps with the 1s from the start of the season as Jimmy G because he wasn’t the anticipated starter. Considering ALL of that, on top of what you said, and seeing how AOC performed in the second half of the season, I wouldn’t want any other guy on our Roster, from Free Agency, or from this years draft class leading our Raiders on the field this season.
@youngdrudown Well said and all facts. Plus, that first game against the Chargers, even with Mack's six sacks, he still almost won. AOC was a 4th-round rookie who want expected to play at ALL last year, but he did. And we all saw his talents in the pre-season games. The young man balled out. Now, he's been working out getting stronger. Oh, and fun fact most people don't know, you can actually make yourself quicker running. When I played ball, I had 25lb ankle weights, and I ran on the beach 8 miles barefoot. My 40 went from 4.4 to 4.23, that summer. So you might not be able to teach speed but you can work for it! I'm also 6'5" but hey, that beach workout really helped!! The following summer, I added the 50lb vest with that small parachute on it! That was amazingly awful! It's sucked while doing it, but the results were well worth it!
@@devontegilliam9211 Yes sir! He can improve his speed like you did and anyone else can. Then that’s when it comes down to a man’s will power and hunger, is he gonna strive for it, I believe he. Like they say “not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size…” He has the people around him that set that example, the Crosby’s, the Adams’ and Spillane’s. That’s the culture he’s building, and just like you improved cause you wanted it I think he has that same thing in him, so he can be our new franchise QB.

I’m a retired electrician and we in the building trades have a saying that if you’re an expert at everything then you’re an expert at nothing, and that’s how I feel about the national media outlets that cover the entire NFL, if you’re an expert on the entire NFL then you’re not an expert on any team and they constantly put out news that isn’t necessarily accurate. That’s why I turn to people like you Carl and the beat writers that cover the Raiders on the daily. I believe I could usually do a better job at writing articles about the Raiders than the national media does which is why we should take everything they say with a grain of salt.
I jumped for joy when my team drafted Brock Bowers. He is generational player. I have always said a great defense will get you to the playoffs. A great quarterback will get you to the super bowl. The team with the best tight end wins the super bowl.
I view both of our QBs as starters I'm confident in both of them if either of them need to start.

Dalton Wagoner was a priority UDFA, I hope to see him in the preseason
I'm looking forward to UDFA Dalton Wagner development during training camp and having him get reps during the preseason games. There's not much Intel on him. Having watched AOC start/ play ten games last season is only going to make a better quarterback this year. I wouldn't sleep on him like you'll are thinking, feeling. You'll forget that he was just a rookie drafted in the 4th round. I, for one, wish him nothing but best in his future endeavors. Taking charge and leading the Raiders into the playoffs.

I believe that the job should be O'Connell's. They need to see what he is. They have unquestionably the best roster they have had in probably 20 years. They need to know if he is the guy or not so they don't waste all this talent. We can't have another bridge qb for a year just to find out O'Connell is just Carr 2.0 (functional, but never great). Sink or swim, they will know their need at the position next season.

I am on the crew of people worried about the Right side line.
Munford is good- and so is Eluminor. But I think both if them are going to have to make BIG improvements quickly if we are gonna have a chance this year and being more than a 10/7 team.

I probably wouldn’t be so hard on them if it wasn’t following the nightmare of Parker Leatherwood combo. I am sick of us always getting young bucks on the O-line but nobody bats an eye at paying for proven skilled players like Adams.
Andrus Peat is a good grab, but anyone who knew who he is knows he is a Left side guy. Some people can switch sides and some don’t- he doesn’t do it well. I do think that before mid season he will be the starting LGuard.
Maybe I am too old and too impatient for seeing the o-line fixed? I only been a fan since the first time we ever played Dallas in 1974. The one thing I have learned playing low level myself, watching my kids play, watching all the things on TV: a great offensive line can make a good QB look great. And can make an average QB look horrible. Finding a top 5 QB is about impossible- a much more obtainable solution is a top 5 o-line. It doesn’t take all 5 guys to be top 5 ranked, it takes 2 of them top 5 and the other 3 guys top 8. Most people never study the trenches. Maybe because thats what I played and my sons that I see it differently than most fans?
I just know it’s been 40 years since we got the big win and I am tired of watching us not even get close most of the time. We bounce through great and average coaches, QBs, receivers, RBs, DB, LB, etc but when is the last time our offensive line was in the top 5, and how did we do? So yeah, I will keep wanting it.

Aiden earned his chance to take the first snap. Minshew will be a great back up to the kid. Let’s be honest if Cj Stroud didn’t have the year he did Aiden would have been the best rookie QB last year. He ain’t as bad as everyone’s trying to make it seem. McDaniels didn’t do him and favors throwing him to the wolves. AP let him play to his strengths and it showed those last 9 games.

I understand what your sayin but a lot happens between now and the start of the season. Especially when injuries start stacking up. Game plans are changing on a daily basis during the season. I can't wait to see the first depth chart because that is the starting point but the season never ends up with the same depth chart.

TT and AP will start Aiden because they want to give him a fair shot at getting the job. He does deserve to start since he finished out the season as the starter and the way he played to finish the season. Just what he needs is a fresh start. The only way it will put all this questions bed is if he’s the guy or not is to let him start. They already know what they got in Minshew and it’s a back up roll mostly in case Aiden can’t get it done. Then they will know what to do in next year’s draft ifit’s clear that our franchise guy is not on the roster. Cuz that sure as hell ain’t Minshew.
How can you be so sure? Do you really think mark will let AP be the coach if his first year is 7 - 9 ? For AP to be the next great Raider coach he has to start off with 10 or more wins or he will only be the coach for two years. I think AP is going to be one of the greats

Very very good point about Minshew being there in case OConnell fails. I agree, and I think OConnell is brutally underrated. I like OConnell and I think he could be very good given time and a good OLine. I really like the direction of this team so much better than the last couple years. I don't think I agree on Mumford. Elumenor wasn't very good, and not beating him out seems like an issue.

Minshew gives me Plunket vibes. A lot of back ups like Plunket and Bradshaw*called Al Davis begging him to trade for him for a shot come of a bench or back up spot and run with it. I am not dissing AOC. But I like the idea of AOC being the starter and it's his job to lose. I am also glad he is taking 12. I liked Carr and for me it was too soon to have someone else that looks like him on the field wearing his number. I think we didn't get Penix Jr because Atlanta was going to be the trade partner and something fell through...so they grabbed him when they didn't need him to punish the Raiders....but that is fine....Atlanta shot them selves in their own foot. They needed someone like Bowers!! And they shit the bed. I like our Draft a lot. And I like the QB competition.

Here's the thing, both of these quarterbacks have proven they can play at their best level of play and do it without turning the ball over. Ball protection and a tenacious defense that will take the ball away will be the key to success this season.
