On the Wrist, from off the Cuff: Casio G-SHOCK - Titanium Square GMWB5000TVA1, Best G-SHOCK Ever?

  • On this episode we review and examine my early Christmas gift, thanks to the Mrs. Everyone loves the Classic G-SHOCK square and the brand in general is one of the few names which carries weight both with hardcore enthusiasts and casual onlookers alike. G-SHOCKs are cemented in pop culture and for good reason, their blend of rugged durability, capability, and unique style have gotten them featured in everything to major motion pictures, music videos, and made them the prefered choice for military and first responders. The entire brand was founded on the original DW-5000C square silhouette, that has since become quite iconic within and even outside of the Casio sub-brand. With that popularity and instant recognition, we've seen countless updates and iterations over the years. Thankfully G-SHOCK recently started producing premium variants of the beloved watch and from the full metal model line has come this EPIC Ti variation dubbed the Virtual Armor. I love this thing, but let me know what you all think in the comments below, thanks guys!

Ok - here we go - lol - First off, thank you for your service. As a VA Appraiser, I work with Vets on a weekly basis and consider it a privilege. Secondly, I am a square nut and mechanical watch collector as well. I tend to gravitate towards the high(er) end pieces. This portion of the current square collection includes the Blingmaster, the Rose Gold, the Black Camo (Ti), the Black OG (Ti) the Aged and now this TVA. I was initially on the fence about the TVA based on all the lettering, but then the more I looked, the more I wanted it. It is just too damn cool. I also LOVE positive displays over the negative ones. There are things about it that are unlike any other Titanium models - such as the "holes" in the links of the bracelet, the others are dimples not holes. The crispness of the text, the fact that it has great contrast, and one definitely knows what one is looking at. They are pricey, I will agree, but they are worth it. There is a steal for one on WatchuSeek right now for $1250 (I paid $1500 for mine) on Ebay. Only been up there a day and I cannot believe it is still available at that price. Someone here should snag it. I love mine and it will never leave the collection, that's for sure. I also love your affordability link above and might have to pick that up since I have the blue of the same and throw it on a combi with some JayandKays bull bars (lol). Great review and congrats on the new piece!!

@@afifsalim5533 This is just my opinion, but I don't think that this watch is targeting the same buyers of the basic model G-shocks.
I have 2 G-shocks, and the first one I bought maybe 10 years ago. It has been with me through everything and I traveled to so many cool places with it. However now days I most wear my Rolex Datejust 126234.
Althought I won't get rid of my g shocks, I hardly wear them any more. It looks bit out of place for me to wear them, however this new model won't. I feel like I can put my Rolex down and put this on and still feel like I'm wearing something high quality.
Yes the price is up there, but it's not more expensive than a Longines or Tag Heuer.
For me it was an implied buy mixed in with a little bit of speculation due to it being limited

    • @yukeduo
      @yukeduo Před 2 lety +1

I just got this watch and have even wearing it for about 12 hours now.
I think it is worth every penny. This is my first titanium watch and it is very comfortable to wear. Because it is so light it really says centered in the wrist and does not move around much.
It may be one of my most comfortable watches. What I really like about it is wearing it to bed, and the lighting comes in handy when checking the time when it is still dark.
The text on the watch is surprisingly subtle compared to the pictures. It does occasionally pinch/pull some hairs but this is very infrequent.
The only way this watch could be better in my opinion is a diver clasp style adjustment system and screw in bracelet screw instead of pins.

Another good thing to know is how are those pushers feeling, they are similar to those casio buttons where you kind of have to hit them with part of your nail? They look different to other Japanese ones and little bigger to be able to press them with gloves maybe?

Thank you Sir, commemorative box is a step up but nothing crazy, the money def went more into the execution on this one vs. the packaging. Pushers are A LOT nicer and larger, no wear near as mushy as the standard squares. Still recessed and protected for no accidental pushing but a lot more robust actuation, not sure I'd say glove friendly but noticeably better than standard, yes.

One problem I see down the future is if you get a scratch on it or in a few places it can't be polished or fix like Stainless Steel Ones, which are usually polished to remove most scratches and scuffs.
Same goes for the Cameo versions in Titanium as well as the Tron Version.
I know they are Durable and more Scratch resistant, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. I've seen a few on eBay with Scratches and scuff already 🤦🏼‍♂️
Casio should offer a service to make these look brand new with signs of wear are showing.
Other wise I'm going to have to put a sticky clear on the clasp that gets the most scratches on it, to minimize the amounts of scratches they get.
Do you see Scratches and scuffs being a problem in the Future? Especially for resale value?
