LUMAGEN RADIANCE PRO - what does it do and why should you buy one for HIGH END visuals?

- We spoke with Jim Peterson, Founder and President of Lumagen Inc, Beaverton - Oregon.
Lumagen is a privately held video systems product company that was founded 2001. They provide solutions for video switching, calibration, plus deinterlacing and scaling. Together these allow knowledgeable integrators and enthusiasts to provide the best quality and most accurate video images for their home cinema and home theater installations.
During this episode we discussed Jim’s background in Mathematics and Engineering and what led him to design and manufacture the Lumagen Radiance video processor in the first place.
We also discussed how the processor has developed over time, especially with the advent of 4K HDR sources and Jim explains in greater depth about the most powerful features of the Radiance Pro and upgrades to the latest 5000 series. This includes the spectacular non-linear stretch function and auto-aspect ratio detection.
We also get a sneak peek into The Lumagen Theater, inspired by Lord of The Rings!

To clarify, Jim Peterson doesnt use his lumagen to do non linear stretch? I'm getting anamorphic screen and was considering the lumagen to get anamorphic for all content. I guess that's a no then? If he doesn't use it then i guess it's not good. I'll pass then as that was 50% of my reason to buy. So is envy Mad VR better as stretching?
I use Lumagen Pro with CinemaScope screen and it works wonders for automatic aspect ratio detection. More importantly (and actually main reason for the tech) is the video processing. This remains unsurpassed. At first I used to select everything in anamorphic but now I enjoy content in various ARs

NLS is a personal preference and can vary based on what’s being watched at the moment.
Business often make product features that aren’t their favorite thing personally but which are desired by the market. Sounds like NLS is one of those.
