They also were persistent in saying it has to be the dealer doing this and that a 3rd party key will not work. I was reminded today how car dealers are very unethical.
I called two lock smiths locally to get an aftermarket smart key programmed, one wanted $450!!! The next one charged $125, he can also get the original Mercedes smart keys at a steep discount compared to my local dealer. It seems the dealers are pricing this work very high to drive us away.

Inside the fob circuit board theres a tiny little coil with wires thinner than human hair. I hear sometimes the wire can break. Maybe after many years of repeated dropping. But who knows. I looked close and couldnt find anything wrong on circuit board. But anyway i found a guy who drives to your house and programs a new key that he has on the spot. Then he cuts out the new emergency key. So much cheaper than dealer. I was gona buy the ebay key but outa respect for the guy i paid him for the key. Then he programmed it. Also, keep in mind, some ebay sellers sell bare key fob shell for cheap. No circuit board. The whole circuit board from your old key slides out in one pop and you can slide board into the new fob shell. Now your beat up key looks new. I did that one my older key. By the way the fob battery is only to unlock the car. If your take the fob battery out key will still work for starting the car. I now always bring the second key with me everywhere i go and just keep it locked hidden in the car while im out so as to never get stranded again.

Thank you for the education. Heck, it would be cheaper for me to file an insurance claim than going to the Mercedes Stealership to get a new FOB and enclosed emergency key cut.
What are you thinking? Reverse engineer it to find what stores the programming and install a new one? He returned it. I would have. Especially if it was cracked and no longer programmable
On the Chinese key this is only a cap, the place where should be the emblem. Just remove it. With the key in the package should be an emblem that should be able to get on that place. Thanks for the content as always!

This works up to 2014. The new system requires different programming. All the local locksmiths can do the early MBs but not the later MBs.

I’ve successfully removed and replaced data on a fobik key now so I know it’s possible.

I bought many parts and keys from the MB dealer in Santa Rosa. They are really good people. Chris was very helpful to me always.
There are some places that can wipe an oem Mercedes key and make it like a virgin, just have to search around.
