With the f35 capability, imagine rebuilding this machine, higher output faster engine, longer loiter time, better lighter electronics…a radar. A targeting computer, thermals and the capability to guide in other weapon systems… plus it can take a few hits and its intimidating.

Low flying, the fact that it fights on the frontline (not behind it, as interdictors), wingmen covering each other, all that can and will protect these things. Most peer-to-peer match ups assume that all assets are vulnerable to destruction unless used properly, and all those high flying multiroles can't quite hide from SAMs either.
