  • Let’s ‘muck up’ some garden containers and pots with a patina method that instantly turns them from new and boring to aged, mossy and antique looking. Perfect for that English Garden look. It couldn’t be easier with no skill and few tools required. Try it and see what I mean!

    I live in a hot climate and those plastic pots work well. However, if you want to paint them, they will peel like crazy unless you give them a primer with a paint made for plastic. Then, after applying all of that paint she is painting them with, she must cover it with an exterior-grade clear top coat or it will fade and wash away in the rain, because she is not using exterior-grade paint. Remember, there is paint made for interior applications and paint made for exterior. If you unwisely use inside paint for the outside it will look cute today, but bad next year, unless the above preparations are done.

      i was thinking the same thing....primer is needed first.

    • @elenap3096
      @elenap3096 Před 3 lety +1

      Or just get interior paint with primer in it. I live in Central Texas and have a few pots painted with oops paints I’ve found at Home Depot that have sat outside for over 7 years and still look great. Also I only use paints with a flat finish.

    Love this, Linda!! Several of my pots and planters were mildewy and dirty from Oregon winters, but not in an attractive, distressed fashion. I don't know why I hadn't thought of it, I'm an abstract painter and I also love to distress furniture pieces as well, but this video began a huge change and inspiration for me to take better control of the look of my garden areas. Refreshing/distressing the garden "furniture" by neutralizing the palette really created more cohesion. Also, I feel validated by your love of aging things, pots, baskets, fencing...I'm a long way off from new design goals, but I'm on my way. Thank you for sharing!!!

    Excellent job on the faux finish! A tip for anyone attempting to replicate that white mineral deposit look of old terracotta is to randomly apply talcum powder to the pot surface when the paint reaches the tacky stage. It'll look just like natural efflorescence. 😊

    A great way to create a beautiful patina on stone,concrete and terra cotta is YOGURT!
    The little microbes in it work wonders.
    Just water down the yogurt and paint it on,then,wait for the magic to happen.
    Works best on the north side of the house.
