    Been working for Amazon here in Ohio as a picker for a week and a half.
    10 hours night shift, 4 days a week.
    It's brutal. My body is in pain from my pinky toe to my eye ball.
    The building is huge and the bathrooms are few and far between. I've been on the 4th floor the last two nights so going to lunch and my one break is like climbing up and down and across Mt. Everest just to eat and refuel and go right back to the torture chamber.
    I've been applying for new jobs all morning.
    Pray for me.
    😢

    I worked only a few jobs like this in my life.
    The abuses are rampant and most don't know their rights.

      I've worked there. The reporter's take seems overblown. It's not a *great* job, but most of the complaints from people when I worked there were Amazon's "crazy" idea that they show up consistently, on time, stay productive and manage your time off wisely.

    • @blueshell4859
      @blueshell4859 Před 6 lety

      You can't go into Amazon not expecting to work hard. Befriend your higher ups, consistently put out good numbers, use your breaks wisely, and you'll be fine. My only complaint is the pay is too low, but you get health, vision, and dental benefits. You also get a raise every 6 months. If the starting pay was better ($16/hour or more), I would be much happier.

      Point systems aren't inherently bad. It's how they're implemented that could be an issue. The company I work for uses a point system. You can get 1 point or 1/2 point for attendance issues. We do not use them for lunches/breaks.

    People want their stuff when they order online they usually do not think about how they get their items they just want them now and fast plus not damaged. I've worked at Walmart fulfillment, target doing fulfillment & Amazon which each one is different now I left them all due to the companies greed not quality nor for the customer. I see Target losing a lot of online customers & money because when I picked the items most of them are not where they should be due to the fact customers place them elsewhere in the store so it is not at the location. I see why it is best to have a center where customers do not shop to get to the product & know it should hopefully be there. Most of these warehouses have dates of items that have expired and are still stowed. At Amazon people get write ups for not being productive when it is impossible to stow items because it is overfilled. Amazon seems to be a storage for items no one buys they make money monthly from people who sale through Amazon those items no one wants nor buys so the bins are too full to add anything. People work at these places because they want to be there those who do not, leave to find work elsewhere. Hopefully people know they should not be forced to work in a job they do not want to work at most of the workers I see do not really work they walk around and talk. They get their numbers because they take smaller items from others and that is how they keep their job and low rates while others work hard and get written up than fired . These companies will always stay in business because people will work there nothing anyone can do unless people stop supporting these type of businesses which will never happen because people want stuff. I have a business to help people start college by helping them apply to school & get them financial aid many have started their own companies & now have better careers. These jobs are to help you get a start while going to school or help pay bills but mostly these types of warehouse jobs are temp & people are replaceable to these companies which is why it is best to start your own business and get paid doing something you enjoy.

    Sounds just like Walmart with the "point system " mess. Lack of proper communication of the various managers, thereby you receive points for being out sick, even though you did your part. I was terminated because of that, turns out, the person that fired me, soon after was let go, because she was found to be fudging points for her buddies that was truly deserving of points. I worked really hard there, but it wasn't appreciated.

      For you, Emmie M, and every other US worker, if you work at a company with more than 50 employees, after a certain amount of time on the job, usually 12 months but it depends based on the hours you have put in on the job, you qualify for FMLA. That is the Family Medical Leave Act. Memorize the letters. You download a form from the US Govt, and have the doctor fill it out for you. Then you turn it in to HR. This gives you time to take off for yourself, your loved one that you care for, or birth, that kind of thing. It will not pay you, so you will need to use your own paid sick time or vacation time but this will save your job. They can't just fire you for the time off if you have FMLA. You can take it all at once, or you can take it intermittently. Many companies put restrictions on this, like you can only use 2 hours at a time instead of just an hour or half an hour, but in general FMLA is something that you should always consider when you take any job. Look up the rules and use them, particularly if you are disabled. You'd imagine the HR dept would offer this to you along with other things that would help but they won't, since without a union, HR and the management cannot be trusted. They aren't on your side.

    • @jenniferloftus2363
      @jenniferloftus2363 Před 6 lety

      Another quick point- larger companies don't want lawsuits, they usually comply with the rules when you force them to do so, but if they don't comply you can try to get some redress through various methods, one being a class action lawsuit, since you can almost guarantee if they did it to you, they did it to others. Not that they did anything wrong, in the US, you can be fired for any cause or no cause at all, but if there is a pattern and a lot of employees, they will be a lot less likely to try to violate your rights if they have money to lose. You could also try to go after them based on the ADA on your own. But yes, they are going to say they are disability friendly even if they aren't, because they fear a lawsuit if they admit the truth. I'm not picking on Amazon in particular, just any large business.

    Some work places don't need to be unionized but people may choose to unionize when things get really bad. I have worked in both types of environments.
