Bootleg, smootleg.. don Ellis stuff is always exciting. Lost him too early, when I was in my 20s. Rip.
A four valve Superbone! Wow! This is incredible to see!
A what, 🤫?
@@Algivet Superbone that’s the name of the instrument.
Amazing. Thank you for uploading and sharing these. Don was my favorite back in 1976. I looked on CZcams last year and was disappointed. Great to see these now.
Many thanks for the uploading, being a former trumpet player myself, I am very happy that there are people bringing these performances to light.
@ndiscala No, not a bootleg. Bootlegs are illegally recorded. This is a legally recorded performance by Swiss Tv. It just hasn''t been officially released (yet) by the copyright holder. Hopefully it will be released someday. Meanwhile it is great to see the majority of the concert here. Many thanks.
Unbelievable!
Awesome!
toujours d'actualité et de grande qualité
Excellent
Holy shit!
Yes I imagine they will be
WOW. Thanks for these videos!!!
Soooo good, thank you for sharing!
OMG!!! Thank you for these!
5's everywhere.......
Ruthie!!!
They should have set up a camera allowing us to see the bandleader’s face while he was conducting.
15/8. (4/4 + 7/8). Nice.
Please check the definition of bootleg. It also includes unauthorized distribution, not just recording. By your definition, someone could hand out pirated or industry copies of the latest Hollywood blockbuster and that would be legal. Now, am I glad these are on CZcams? Without a doubt.
There's Chino Valdez!
Shakti appeared just before the Ellis Band that night at Montreux. And considering his comment, it is not a stretch to imagine the layered subdivisions approach used in Sporting Dance being influenced by the writing of John McLaughlin (particularly his Mahavishnu period writing). IMO a very appropriate and polite tip of the hat.
holy mother of Moses whata show that musta been!!!
"Are SuperBones still available for sale? where can I find one?"
Only on the used/second-hand market. They were discontinued when LeBlanc (Holton) was acquired by Conn-Selmer, if not before.
If you really want one, there are craftsmen that will make one...ain't cheap.
Are SuperBones still available for sale? where can I find one?
Wait, what? I can only see three - unless he's got something hidden by his left hand, it looks pretty much like my superbone.
Why would a fourth valve be necessary, anyway? There's a slide for quarter-tone and intonation stuff.....
I'm curious: In the preceding clip, in introducing this piece, Ellis says that he personally dedicates this performance to John McLaughlin and Shakti, for reasons that are apparent to them, and to others. What reasons could these be? Can someone shed light on this?
Can he play the trombone??
@seraphita55 No, not available for sale. I know where this video originated from and don't want to say as the discriminator may get in trouble, but these Montreux vids are technically bootlegs.
I can hear the root influence of some Dream Theater's songs in this one alone
This chart sucks big time!
How so?
