    Oscar is an interesting case. He is egoistical, greedy, and kinda just a jerk in some occasions. Its kind of easy to see why Suga Mama disses him a lot and tends to comeuppance when he acts this way. But he clearly loves his family and is very dedicated to them. He is kind of like a human version of Daffy Duck to me.

    I think Oscar is a goofy, good dad. His clumsiness makes me laugh all the time. I remember a huge rock fell on him, and his leg was sticking out, and he was screaming Penny for help! 🤣🤣🤣 maybe he needs help with his business plans. 😅the overprotective dad is too much. There’s also the whole deal that fathers KNOW how teenage boys can get, because they WERE teenage boys at one point.

    Great video!
    I feel Oscar is misunderstood. I always liked him as a father. His sense of humor, assertiveness, and ambition caught on in the series. He just had people lowkey hating on him. Suga Mama always put him down. She never supported his dreams. She always favorites Bobby over him as siblings. Wizard Kelly lowkey hates Oscar because he used wealth and fame against him. That is pretty much how their rivalry escalated into jealously. (But Wizard Kelly was lowkey hating.) Oscar is the "bad guy" but it's the other way around. Oscar us lovable, smart, and down to earth. He does have the father role in the family. I enjoyed this video. Keep up the amazing work!!!

    These are some good points and good breakdown of the proud family characters. Its a cartoon but at the same time you see some moments of black, Hispanic and white stereotypes. From the creators point of view they're probably trying to make the show real and relatable. But I understand what you're saying. Oscar is the goofy character. And he plays the stereotype of black entrepreneur man that is always seen as a joke and not successful in his business.

    Not completely fair. Oscar isn’t a deadbeat. He takes care of his children and sincerely love them u like Peter Griffin or Homer Simpson. He even stuck up for Penny in the movie, when Trudy kicked Penny out (He couldn’t overrule Trudy but gave her money to get to Suga Momma’s house), when everyone didn’t believe her for not stealing Wizard Kelly’s watch (even when a Suga Momma stopped believing her), and in the civil rights episode, and always encourages Penny to be her best self. He even helped Lacieniga with her big feet insecurity. I favor Bobby. But I think he’s a bafoon but a great father. Wben in the reboot. He saved the day for Penny when she got scammed by Al Rocker even though he was upset with her. He’s a loving father.

      How is Peter Griffin likable? Yeah in the earlier seasons of Family Guy it showed deep down he really does care about his family. But as the seasons went on, Peter became more narcissistic and made everything about him. I get Meg is basically the butt of every joke, but he’s not exactly caring of Chris or Stewie either, even accounts he’s tempted to cheat on Lois too. Its like Stewie said to Brian once, he’s more of a father figure to him than the fat man (aka Peter) ever has been. Homer at least makes up for his mistakes most of the time, but Peter is literally a drunk deadbeat half the time always making fun of everyone around him

    I do enjoy Oscar in the not because he's a deadbeat, despise his goofy moments, he's the typical dad that despise his many flaws, he keeps trying to do his best, to me, he is misunderstood as he grows up in a household where his mom loved his brother the most, not sure if it was a case with his father has it's hardly mentioned in the show or the reboot, but he's the guy that tries many way to sucessed but fails but never stops trying, he tries to be a good dad but we have to keep in mind that he probably doesn't the best examples of what a good parent is, unlike his wife that seems to be the mire responsible one.
    Which why i enjoy Oscar, he does a lot of mistakes but never gaves up

    I agree with you Oscar Proud is in the middle. He's definitely NOT a deadbeat, but he's verging too much on the goofy side for my tastes. Homer Simpson is a like a much better written version of Oscar Proud. Homer was also a goofy bumbling dad who made lots of mistakes, but showed plenty of redeeming qualities to balance it out (he almost always took accountability for all his stupid BS. And he willingly stuck with his shitty job with Mr. Burns bc he knew its the only way to support his new baby.)

    As a teacher I can tell you that a lot of parents react that way to autism being brought up or diagnosed etc. I even had a mom actually pull her kid from my classroom and find another child care center to take care of her almost kindergartner aged son because we told her that she should get her son tested and she would not accept that but he obviously needed some kind of help. He had serious sensory issues and he would only eat cherrios and he wouldn't (couldn't?) talk, etc. It was very concerning. I hope that he is doing much better today and going forward. I often think about my old students and wonder how they are now. I get them as babies. Anyway sorry for my long comment. If you read all of that thank you it means a lot to me. Have a good day 😊

    *This is just my opinion, I'm not trying to be mean*
    I don't think Oscar is a terrible dad, but he is honestly pretty *OVERPROTECTIVE* and it's getting too much to where its really annoying, it kind of feels like he doesn't really learn. Like...making Penny wear an army outfit? I can't.
    Overall, Oscar does seem to care about Penny. If he just becomes Protective instead of Overprotective it'd be better, and if he actually lets Penny do things without him getting beat by someone.
    (for example: snackland episode, he was trying to stop Penny from preforming on stage and has been kind of annoying to be honest in that episode, he had to be removed from the area because "how dare Penny want to sing with her friends on stage" *at least thats how he comes off to me*)
    Also Oscar chill, your Daughter isn't going to twerk on stage
    Anyway, as said, Oscar isn't a terrible dad, but he isn't a great dad either. He's got flaws to work on, and hopefully in Season 3 he develops more.

    Well the reason why sometimes I think that Oscar proud he’s a deadbeat father is kind of similar to his deadbeat fathers I do nothing for a living or they do nothing for their own girlfriends when they have a child with them and do not pay child support so it’s very disturbing
    Okay probably he’s not the typical deadbeat father Oscar proud but I will say Oscar proud he’s a mama‘s boy if he was the man of the house sugar mama she would never been there looking after him looking like he’s still a little boy because I think there is a dysfunctional side to the proud family Oscar proud he doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life as a father figure does not put no boundaries to his family so I believe his wife Trudy proud she does everything to provide for the family she works and she knows how to keep things straight
    Oscar proud he’s not perfect as a father but he needs to know what is best for his Family and how to know how to be the man of the house not does the man of the house but also to be the parent of the house him and his wife so let’s just say he is a stay at home dad that does nothing just fails at everything
    So he has a son Bebe And what will B think about his father looking up to him and saying I want to be like my dad when he say that I’m not sure

  • @maxpokebruh27
    @maxpokebruh27 Před 9 měsíci +2

    Honestly the colorism issue expands to the Proud Family themselves. Oscar, the dark skinned father is always the buffoon and toxically overprotective but Trudy, the light skinned mother is the breadwinner, reasonable (to a side eye extent) and more competent than Oscar is. There's nothing wrong with encouraging your child to be independent but Penny is still 14 years old, not 18 years old. She is ultimately still the child and Oscar is right in that aspect even though he can be very unreasonable.

      @battybuddy Před 8 měsíci

      My mom had the theory that said spectrum was partially hereditary given her comparing me to things her dad used to do.

    • @GaleneIanthe
      @GaleneIanthe Před 8 měsíci

      I was about to bring this up. I'm autistic/adhd myself, and there's a lot about Oscar's behaviors that remind me of... well, myself. The impulsiveness, the creativity, how he gets grumpy when things don't go his way, the way he's so stubbornly committed to trying to support his family through his snack creations. I'd have an easy time believing that, like myself, working a regular 9-to-5 was unbearable for him and the only way he can think to support his family is by selling things that he makes. (And because that rarely works out, he needs the support of financial support of his wife.)
      It's weird for me, because I had really mixed feelings about Oscar watching this show as a kid, but I think a lot of the negativity I felt came from his over-protectiveness and his refusal to trust Penny. But overall he really was just a guy doing his best to be a good dad. The episode where he helps LaCienega get over her insecurity about her big feet has stuck in my mind for years as an example of how sometimes he really did know what he was doing. Also he didn't exactly have the best role models for how to be a good parent himself, given his own mother resented him from the start, so maybe we can cut him a little slack.
      Ultimately, Oscar slots perfectly into the goofy-fuck-up-dad stereotype that's been common in American sitcoms for a while now. And I'm sure this is what the writers were thinking about when writing him; the fact you can make a convincing case for him being on the spectrum is coincidental. Still, with the revelation that Bebe is autistic, and the accepted notion that autism can run in families, Oscar also being autistic is a fun fan theory, especially for those of us who can relate to him.

    Like I go back and forth on how to feel about Oscar. On one hand, I really don’t like his womanizing, mistreatment of Trudy, and his overall manic overprotectiveness of Penny.
    On the other hand, when the show gives Oscar moments to explain why he does what he does and allows him to have human moments, you can tell he’s not as dumb as everyone thinks he is. The way he cheers up Lacinega is actually very endearing. The way he tells Penny the reason he’s so overprotective at the camp is actually very understandable and makes perfect sense. Yeah Oscar is definitely the butt of the joke a lot of the time but he’s not a bad character. He’s definitely one of the funnier characters on the show and the show allows him to have flaws and moments of humanity that make him feel like a real person.
