Dear @techlore, I've recently asked my VPN provider why they are using (as most VPN providers are!!) the third party provider M247 LTd for hosting and the highly likely scenario that the 'actors' have this company on the radar as its the most widely used hosting provider and therefore, particularly in the UK is highly likely to have DPI boxes downstream on the exit nodes. They did initially come back with quite a poor response but when questioned further have shut up shop and will not answer any further questions. I pointed out that M247 Ltd is UK registered and therefore even connecting to other EU countries they would ultimately would have to comply to UK data retention laws. Could you guys not challenge VPNs this question why they are using third party providers, reg in UK, subject to UK anti-privacy laws, the highly likely DPI boxes on exit nodes..list goes on.

I’m so glad you didn’t switch because of something major wrong with Proton. I switched to it recently for the combination of email, VPN, and storage in one place. Thank you for great, and helpful, videos.

    I have a video suggestion!
The best setup regarding home security. Which cameras to use, which aren't flawed like most cameras from China and which NAS you'd recommend to store all this data onto :P And how to connect these NASes in different locations so they can sync with one another

    • @techlore

@@techloreyou can do one about the available choices for camera, one for NAS and a video covering how to combine and set them up like a series if it's too much work for one video.

On the proton + custom DNS I had no issues on Linux. Basically run the Proton VPN CLI on top of the Portmaster pointing to NextDNS and that was it. No messing with iptables or resolvconf

thing is the folks at ivpn are very conservative. they do not have a business mentality, just a privacy one. so they aren't actively looking to form these sort of partnerships and what not.

I had a really good experience with IVPN but the Proton Ultimate (vpn, mail, cloud drive) was the same price as IVPN on its own. However, the Proton calendar and cloud clients are frustratingly isolated. I know that's the point but for everyday integration... 👎🏽

Tailscale used to be a big drain on my samsung s23 ultra but over time i think my device learned how to manage it and the battery seemed to improve quite a bit.
Were you able to have the Mullvad VPN work for the actual NAS as well? There doesn't seem to be a way to configure or apply the VPN onto the NAS but only for the other devices.

Apparently not, and so your message doesn't give any value to this conversation. On the contrary, you just basically came and said that all his efforts are futile because he's not doing his best to uphold some imaginary standard that you have imposed.
Henry's doing everything in his power (and within reason!!!!) to achieve what he's trying to achieve regarding his privacy setup and he's doing his best in that.
