The biggest irony of this franchise to me is that Manny at the end of the first movie says that he'll never forget the baby, but the baby never appears in the future sequels nor is even brought up lmao

And why would they bring him up? That’s some private shit that all of them know about. It’s not something you talk to other people about and don’t need to talk to your friends about because THEY WERE THERE. It was a very personal emotional experience.

Regardless that’s clearly not what the dude in the video was trying to say.
He’s acting like it’s some kind of mystical prediction, as if the team that worked on the later ice age movies had no access or memory of the first and as if the creators of the first ‘had no way of knowing what the future hold’ as if they needed to for whatever benign reason.

If you build your world correctly you can use small things from start and make them bigger even if it wasn't in first plan and that's also forshadowing but if you do something and plan to use it 30 years later but you didn't built world that can support that and you don't bring it back then that's NOT forshadowing even tho it was planned

In order to count anything from the first movie as references to any of the sequels, the creators must have known the sequels were going to be made, which seems less than likely.
Chances are high that the scenes in the first movie were either used to move the story along, or as visual gags such as the pack stopping at a "red light" for an iceberg, and that the pirahnas, dinosaurs and ufo were references to the scene in Ice Age 1.
The frozen sloths is more of a reference to the Theory of Evolution. Sid's family is a reference to the part in IA1 where Sid wakes up only to discover his family left him behind.

i adore these movies, they're my comfort movies. imo, theyre so much better than people give them credit for. mannys arc is just amazing.
he goes from lonely and cynical having lost his wife and child, feeling like he failed to protect them.
to finding ellie and making the choice to move on and try again, which was a choice he grappled with until the very end of the movie. along with struggling to let her have control of her choices with how much he worries.
and then you see him become overprotective and frightened of the world when ellie is pregnant, but at the same time, allows himself to actually be excited and happy.
when peaches grows up, you see he CLINGS to that protectiveness and feels the need to control every aspect of his daughters life. he sees at the end of the movie though, that shes not a little girl anymore and he lets up considerably on the control.
and then in the last movie, he has to completely let go of that protectiveness and not only trust her fiance, but her too.
the wedding scene in the last movie ALWAYS makes me cry.
and yes, sid DID deserve to find true love and i enjoyed his arc of thinking he was a stud who deserved any woman ever and a rotation of women- to realizing there is value in settling down. yes he idealizes the concept a lot, especially after watching manny settle down and have a child. but he finally finds someone who loves him for HIM. nothings forced, theres no pity to it. she just loves sid and its very sweet.
diegos story was a little more underwhelming especially as they did next to nothing with shira after continental drift. but i love that he continually chooses to stay with the herd. thats his family. i also love how he defies the stereotype of tough guy man never talks about feelings. manny harbored that belief and ellie was NOT amused and when he went to talk to diego, he opened up and talked so easily that manny was bewildered lol.
    buck was a wonderful character.
granny will never not remind me of my mother, they HAD to have based her off of my mom lol.
crash and eddie are fairly entertaining.
julian was wild lol i was not expecting him but i love him and i think hes perfect for peaches. he makes her shine.
i think theyre wonderful movies that showcase mixed/chosen family and a valuable lesson in letting go and trying again. even if you lose EVERYTHING, like manny had. like sid had. like diego had. you can still start over. you can still find and make your own family. and to me, that means a lot. i feel abandoned by my biological family. i relate a lot to sid lol. i just love these movies. anytime im anxious or sad, i pick a random one and fall asleep to it.

The movies got increasingly more bizarre as each one was released. Like we went from a somewhat realistic depiction of the Ice Age to eventually freaking Pirates with a Monke Captain in the 4th. I thought it couldn’t get any more bizarre, but then suddenly Ice Age 5 released and yeah… now we’re in SPACE! 💀💀

4th one was OK, 5th was fucking terrible and the 6th "movie" is just beating a dead horse to it's bones... It had a interesting spin-off ideal about buck wild but too bad Disney fucked that up badly.

It is so fucking bad, I hope you like Crash and Eddie because even if it called "Buck wild" it's not the main focus on him which is baffling. Again, would be a good spin-off about Buck if the studio focus on him and his team only.

Yeah that’s exactly what I was gonna say. They clearly ran out of ideas, looked back at this scene and said “Hey! Let’s make these into movies!”. There’s no way they planned all 5 of these movies years ahead of time. The contrast in quality from the rest of the movies to the first film really makes it look like most of them were just cash grabs (especially continental drift onwards).

I just wanted a sequel where the baby was grown. Like maybe they’re being hunted but the humans recognise the group or something. I don’t care what the plot is. You could even tell it from the kids perspective and have the others just making animal sounds he can’t understand (I don’t actually want that lol, but I’d admittedly probably watch it). I never cared much for the plot or new characters in the sequels I did see. They don’t really even feel like sequels to the original. They just use some of the same characters.
