I just went through this a few months ago 😂. I destroyed about 6-7 eight foot sections of crown moulding in a span of a few days. The worst part of the experience is when you make a cut that you think will finally work out and you go to see the fit but it looks like the two pieces are from completely different sizes of stock. There was lots of swearing, constant questioning of this insane decision and a ton of caulking used after I finally figured it out.

I had to use tons of caulk too to hide my cutting mistakes. So hard especially for my first time. 😭

This is the funniest thing I've seen in a while. I'm not sure what video you watched, but no carpenter ever cut crown the way you cut that first piece. I'm not sure you could get a square cut that way, never mind a compound angle. If you're coping, ideally, you only cope one end. It's not impossible to do both ends, but it's time consuming. I like to charge by the foot, and with a big enough job can make plenty at $1/ft.
