What is orientalism exactly?
I have had many discussions with orientalists, some are genuinely trying to study the subject and some are just outright ignoramuses. It's hilarious what they come up with sometimes. There are some interesting books on the develepmont of orientalism troughout the ages, you will see how it has always been biased, first by christianity and now by liberal secularism.

I used to think criticism like this are dividing the ummah but I do now feel that such academic criticism is necessary in directing the ummah in the way of Salaf.

@@Figleaf-Bicarbonate we do Ijtihad. Where we take decision by taking in account the similar situations in the past. this is mostly done by learned scholars.
The thing Yasir Qadhi is doing is changing the core beliefs of Islam. Which do not require ijtihad.
@@Figleaf-Bicarbonate The scholars must try with the best of their ability to apply the understanding of the best generations (Salaf) and it must not contradict quran and sunnah, im sure there are other requirements, but its very important that only those of knowledge pass fatwas and ijtihad.
@@Figleaf-Bicarbonate There are a few foundational Ayat and Hadeeth which, if applied consistently, allows one to both adhere to sound scholarly rulings and, in the absence of which, allows one to apply ones mind to the best of one's capacity.
The first, of course would be, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended" (Sahih al-Bukhari 1). As long as an individual's fitra (innate disposition towards goodness i.e. towards Allah and what pleases him) has not become clouded due to repeated purposeful wrongdoing, then it (the fitra) would be enough, as an initial point of reference, to guide one towards what is right and away from what is wrong.
But let's presume the uncertainty remains then one should be cognizant of the following "Both legal and illegal things are evident but in between them there are doubtful (suspicious) things and most of the people have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from these suspicious things saves his religion and his honor. And whoever indulges in these suspicious things is like a shepherd who grazes (his animals) near the Hima (private pasture) of someone else and at any moment he is liable to get in it" (Sahih al-Bukhari 52). Therefore as long as the matter is not one of necessity and one remains uncertain then it is best to avoid. And in avoidance one is further rewarded for following the Sunnah.
However, there will of course be times when necessary uncertainty is involved. I.e. the matter cannot be avoided and one is forced to make a decision or choose an action. The following may then be applied: "Whenever Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was given the choice of one of two matters, he would choose the easier of the two, as long as it was not sinful to do so..." (Sahih al-Bukhari 3560). The "easiest" in such instances however, should not simply be misconstrued as simply selecting haphazardly that which one presumes requires the least effort but instead be understood as that which, once again, aligns with one's fitra and provides the believer with the best peace of mind.
And in the end if one follows these steps and yet still ends up making the "incorrect" decision then it is important to remember "When the judge passes a judgement in which he strived and was correct, then he receives two rewards. And when he judges and is mistaken, then he receives one reward." (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1326). We are of course not perfect, nor is our knowledge, however this does not excuse us from applying out minds to the extent required by the gravity of a given situation. And finally, "And never say of anything, `I am going to do it tomorrow,´ Except [when adding], "If Allah wills." And remember your Lord when you forget [it] and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to what is nearer than this to right conduct." (Al-Kahf verse 23-24). Neither be hasty nor procrastinate in making decisions nor be be disappointed or, (we seek refuge in Allah from this) depressed, when we exert ourselves and things do not go our way. Islam provides logical, rational and satisfying processes and examples for all facets of life. It is up to us to take hold of this knowledge and use it to attain success

Dr. Yasir Qadhi's way of thinking is something that I have generally observed amongst muslim scholars who are educated and raised on a diet of Western Secular Liberalism. I have observed this not just in the West but also in my own country.
They study the Islamic sciences through a Secular and Liberal lens.
The Western mind believes that we should allow those who disagree to do as they see fit even if what they do is harmful to society.

@Renkai Holyphrase no he hasn’t. He believes in Yajuj and majuj but that Hadith which says they claw. That Hadith is questionable regarding its authenticity. And many classical scholars has rejected this Hadith and the idea that they are still alive today clawing away. If the hadith was clearly authentic, of course YQ would believe it. But unfortunately, many of these youngsters make videos regarding YQ bashing him on the internet. If they were truly sincere in their religion, they would of never of done that

The Din of Islam is pure worship,sincerity and through repentance of all sins and not merely an intellectual exercise or an academic Olympics event, this idea has escaped my Brother Yasir Qadhi unfortunately.

Yasir Qadhi many of his friends, Mufti Mink and his friends and followers. I don’t look for Islam in these people I mentioned or those who mention or look up to them. I don’t. Islam is simple look to the Quran and Hadiis.

As far as i know his teachings always come from Quran and Sunnah. He might be acquaintance with ppl such as yasir qadi or omar suleiman but i think hes just ignorant of these propagandas they spread.

A normal layman should not suddenly jump out of his chair and criticize a learnt man. That's not how it is done. After all YQ is a learnt man, he didn't just issue fatwas after going through Islamic websites. So there should be a mature way to deal with this. Videos like these have resulted in people like David Wood making videos to his Christian audiences that Muslims are just fighting on youtube. He made a video of brother Saajid refuting YQ and he is propagating this idea that Muslims are not sure about their theology, and YQ is not going to respond to these videos and he was right when he said some of us do not have critical thinking. The pros and cons must be weighed before even attempting to make such videos.

Madina university needs to take his qualifications back by rejecting his work and disassociate him with the university. The scholors there need to put him in the group of rejects. And warn people of his misguidance. That's yasir Qadhi not brother sajid. I'm so glad brother sajid is giving us this information. We need to know who is spreading nonsense in the name of Islam. To be fair ( just as a side note, and not in Yasir Quadis defence) he not only studied in Yale....most of his real academic studies were done in University of Madina.
And then he went astray. Because u graduated from Islamic university doesn't mean u can't go astray.
Yasir Qadhi acts like he is so knowledgeable but he makes hilarious blunders when it comes to basic Islamic hadeeth. You can see some on farid responds channel. He props himself up so high but makes fundamental errors, he is full of pride and is low key suffering from a superiority complex.
