Phenomenal display, the best visual guide I have seen yet.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm a 53 year old bloke who fell over 5 or 6 months ago and this presented itself in mid June.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 hope you are recovering Jason
Brilliant content, people needs you.
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
Do you have suggestions for how to modify holding a pen? Writing is painful, within the first sentence my hand cramps up and get sharp zings through my wrist
Simply described....great👍
Thank you so much!
I’m facing this pain from thumb to wrist soon after my delivery. It’s been 7 months I’m having severe pain and I also had that steroid injection in tendon but soon after that my pain came back
I can’t even write using my thumb what should I do
I helped hubby lift something, that weighed maybe 30 lbs. (on my end.) This was 5 months ago! I’ve had my wrist splinted ever since. It’s not broken, but a very painful lump is growing. I can’t even use my wrist to pull my covers up, over me! I thought it would eventually heal, but it’s getting worse, not better. I wonder if this is the culprit, since I already have RA, and OA. (I’m only 47, small frame, never been overweight a day in my life.) Since I have some AI diseases, I suffer from swelling, I’m interested to see if this is the case. I finally made an ortho appointment, and go tomorrow!
Great video!!!!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Hi there! So when should I do these things and how often? Is there a video for the lifting modifications? When do I wear my wrist brace and for how long? Do I wear it when lifting children?
PS. I don’t have a baby haha
i just started a job at usps as a clerk and the main bit of it is throwing heavy packages into bin's, this presented itself after a week of doing so and it seems to be getting worse. Now I am not sure what the F to do because im sure if I cant perform my job I will be let go, this is depressing
I got this myself from wringing out my hand-washed clothes every day for 2 weeks on a camping trip. Tried conservative treatment first (incl. thumb splint) but one year later had no improvements, so I got a steroid injection. Then it was gone within 2 days. I didn't feel it for a few years, but then I did feel it again recently after practicing a certain hand grip with martial arts, which puts a lot of stress on these tendons. So it still seems to be a somewhat vulnerable spot on my left hand. Maybe I should work on consistent progressive exercises to gradually strengthen the tendons again.
Sounds like a good plan! Wish you all the best Tim!
great video but as a construction worker with this condition I still don't know if it will get better in 6-12 weeks after starting this job or not. There are a lot of suboptimal positions that my hand and wrist are strained under while screwing and carrying drywall.
Sorry to break it to you pal, but I have had this condition for 18 months with 2 steroid injections in between and the problem is still there. The injections did help in getting mobility back in my thumb as initially it was completely immovable, but the effects of the injections taper off sooner or later. They help in a way that you get some movement back, but the pain still persists if you get your thumb in certain positions. Now im sat here at 2am contemplating on getting the third injection to try and get rid of the remaining swelling. If that doesn’t work then its surgery which in itself isn’t guaranteed a success. Its a truly crap condition to have.
Are there any key ways you would differential this between first MTPJ OA (without x-ray)? I've had a few patients that present with both subjective and objectively.
Hey! Resisted movements should make a big difference… may be a little sore on occasions within OA, but if really irritable de quervains then will definitely be irritable. Just one way of doing it!
@@ClinicalPhysio thanks, your content is top notch.
@@joesefr.7756 very kind of you! Thank you so much!
hey. Im 15 and have this. although I had it before for a bit but later it disappeared. I got it back recently and im curious. Is clicking a common symptom? and is this likely needed for surgery at my age? or is it likely to go eventually?
I also have same issue is it okay now?
I didn’t suffer from this as a mother however I AM suffering from it as a grandmother!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 wish you all the best!
@@ClinicalPhysio I got one cortisone shot and I am all better! 🙏🏻
Im a 20 yr massage therapist and for the first time in my career I have this. Definitely not just for new mums. I think texting with iphones has played into this alongside over loading my dominant thumb while working. I did a steroid shot after 2 months of pain. Within 24 hrs.. all pain was gone and remained gone even while working for 6 weeks. Sadly the pain returned so i had 2 PRp injections to flood the area 3 weeks ago. Time will tell if it helps strengthen the area but so far i have daily pain. What I don’t understand is if i lay down, and upon waking… i have the most pain and then that intensity subsides throughout the day. Any idea why? That rubber band move looks like itd cause more pain and inflammation. Any other exercises to strengthen the surrounding area?
Hi! Do you definitely think it is DQT? Could there be something going on within the joint instead given your AM symptoms?
Being unable to assess you properly I won’t jump to conclusions but perhaps just something for you to consider!
@@ClinicalPhysio it was diagnosed as DQT. I think the sheath is extra infammed in the waking hours and i cant push my thumb and wrist down sideways but after an hour its much better. Even my GP asked if it was worse upon waking.
Same here, I am a waitress, studying sports massage therapy. I do all the management of my injury Pain worse upon waking. When we sleep we curl our wrists and elbows in our sleep in positions, causing compression or stress on the tendon and nerves. I wear a wrist band at night to prevent my wrist from bending. While my job still causes repetitive strain on my wrist from carrying heavy plates non stop 6 hours a day, my wrists have improved significantly and no pain in the morning.
I have pain in right wrist, I am a mother of one year old baby. How much time it takes to be cured by anti inflammatory medicine. When to start phsio exercise, after curing the pain completely? Does UST and SWD physiotherapy will help in this.
Hi! Anti-inflammatory options are important but also the physiotherapy strengthening to come with it which can absolutely start before pain completely improves… but just be sure to keep things under tolerable levels of comfort. Ultrasound and Shortwave Diothermy not as helpful in experience. I would absolutely recommend you seek the advice and assessment of a physiotherapist face to face to help you
I have this problem but no swelling I can do my daily chores with zero pain but when I stretch thumb backward I feel stiffness can it heal it’s own at present I am applying diclo gel
Yes absolutely De Quervains does improve in time
@@ClinicalPhysio thank you for keeping me positive I m subscribing your channel and will remain in touch with you 😊

Can you advice me some vegetarian diet which can help me to heal faster , I m a vegetarian.
I slept on my wrist wrong one night and have had this pain ever since. That was about a month an a half ago. This condition describes the pain I am feeling best. Is this a condition that can be cause by one isolated incident of minor trauma such as sleeping on the wrist incorrectly?
This is exactly how it started for me!! I was told by a doctor it was this specifically, but im still unsure how sleeping on my wrist wrong caused this lol
OMG, me too! How do we manage to injure ourselves while sleeping? 😫
@u2fan2975 i ended up getting a steroid injection, and it has totally fixed my issue for now at least haha
Exactly what happened to me a month and half ago. I woke up with a painful wrist and still in pain right now.
@AdventuresOfTitaTin highly recommend a trip to the doctor and ask about a steroid injection it completely solved my issue
No info on how to treat it?
Of course! The 2nd half of this video details ways that a physiotherapist can treat this including education and exercises , hope you caught that section!
Mere bhi same problem h but mujhe surgery bol di dr. Ne
It's been over a year and my condition hasn't gotten better. I've been wearing a splint for way over six weeks and my hand still hurts. I'm a guitarist and it makes playing guitar professionally impossible
Exact issue for me. I cant really not play guitar so its annoying
@@nikvh437 Hey bro. I got my problem resolved. Get some therapy for your hand and it should be good. And I also learned that my condition wasn't getting better because of how I am holding the guitar.
When your holding the guitar, push the guitar neck towards u instead of gripping the neck. It's gonna feel weird at first but you will get use to it
What do you mean by get therapy? Also a guitar player suffering from this, any help is appreciated!
@@matthewpadron6246 physical therapy
Haha this is very particular to my case because I am a pregnant woman who is also a massage therapist. I only have a week left of work but hopefully I can subside inflammation before baby comes (in 2 months) because I wouldn’t want to continuously have this problem from now until 6-12 months of baby…😳 I’d imagine it may be difficult since I still get swelling (edema) in my hands and feet
Wishing you all the very best and good luck with your new arrival!
Thanks for the info, Am in pain and can’t handle my baby. Was Misdiagnosed with carpo tunnel syndrome and it’s yesterday that I scanned the wrist and will be seeing a physio therapist soon
Wishing you all the very best 🙏🏼
Any other guitarists here??
This could use an update on wider demographic. It impacts all people at every age
I certainly agree that it impacts all people at every age… the aim was to highlight to physiotherapists that one of the most common demographics for presentation is recent parents, not only recent parents
Aromasin caused my DeQuervain's in both wrists after breast cancer. My oncologist said nothing about this risk.
So sorry to hear that - wishing you all the best with it
I have no baby and I have this, what could my causes be??
Hi! Would generally be considering repeated lifting/thumb loading activities
I got this from weight lifting, or at least a combination of that with other activities.
30 year old bachelor in otherwise fantastic physical health, but alas it seems I have mommy thumb x)
I have 😢
🙏🏼 wishing you all the best
👏
🙏🏼
I’ve had it for a year. No babies.
So sorry to hear that, wishing you all the best
I have no children and suffer from this . Why would they even refer to this as symptoms of being a mother , if men suffer from this too 🤦🏻♀️
Because It commonly results from carrying a baby which is seen in new mother's more often than fathers.
Then all back pains , headaches and health symptoms should be classified the same since mothers develop all sorts of physical symptoms for caring for a child 😂
i'm suffering from this from past 9 months 😢
Are you golfer or racquet sport player?
The symptoms are also called gamers thumb, causes due to too much of texting and using that particular thumb for gaming
What is the root cause of the cause of inflammation???? 🤔 treat the root cause not the symptom of it
I got this by doing chin ups
Wishing you all the best with it
You sound so sweet
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Suffering from this sucks
Wishing you all the best 🙏🏼
Side effects of steroid shots 🥴
i know texting caused this for me, idk if it'll go away if i abstain from using the thumb
Hi! If you are concerned I would certainly suggest seeing a Dr or Physio for more formal assessment
