    I helped hubby lift something, that weighed maybe 30 lbs. (on my end.) This was 5 months ago! I’ve had my wrist splinted ever since. It’s not broken, but a very painful lump is growing. I can’t even use my wrist to pull my covers up, over me! I thought it would eventually heal, but it’s getting worse, not better. I wonder if this is the culprit, since I already have RA, and OA. (I’m only 47, small frame, never been overweight a day in my life.) Since I have some AI diseases, I suffer from swelling, I’m interested to see if this is the case. I finally made an ortho appointment, and go tomorrow!

    I got this myself from wringing out my hand-washed clothes every day for 2 weeks on a camping trip. Tried conservative treatment first (incl. thumb splint) but one year later had no improvements, so I got a steroid injection. Then it was gone within 2 days. I didn't feel it for a few years, but then I did feel it again recently after practicing a certain hand grip with martial arts, which puts a lot of stress on these tendons. So it still seems to be a somewhat vulnerable spot on my left hand. Maybe I should work on consistent progressive exercises to gradually strengthen the tendons again.

    • @DubSalvation
      @DubSalvation Před rokem +6

      Sorry to break it to you pal, but I have had this condition for 18 months with 2 steroid injections in between and the problem is still there. The injections did help in getting mobility back in my thumb as initially it was completely immovable, but the effects of the injections taper off sooner or later. They help in a way that you get some movement back, but the pain still persists if you get your thumb in certain positions. Now im sat here at 2am contemplating on getting the third injection to try and get rid of the remaining swelling. If that doesn’t work then its surgery which in itself isn’t guaranteed a success. Its a truly crap condition to have.

    Im a 20 yr massage therapist and for the first time in my career I have this. Definitely not just for new mums. I think texting with iphones has played into this alongside over loading my dominant thumb while working. I did a steroid shot after 2 months of pain. Within 24 hrs.. all pain was gone and remained gone even while working for 6 weeks. Sadly the pain returned so i had 2 PRp injections to flood the area 3 weeks ago. Time will tell if it helps strengthen the area but so far i have daily pain. What I don’t understand is if i lay down, and upon waking… i have the most pain and then that intensity subsides throughout the day. Any idea why? That rubber band move looks like itd cause more pain and inflammation. Any other exercises to strengthen the surrounding area?

      Same here, I am a waitress, studying sports massage therapy. I do all the management of my injury Pain worse upon waking. When we sleep we curl our wrists and elbows in our sleep in positions, causing compression or stress on the tendon and nerves. I wear a wrist band at night to prevent my wrist from bending. While my job still causes repetitive strain on my wrist from carrying heavy plates non stop 6 hours a day, my wrists have improved significantly and no pain in the morning.

    • @ClinicalPhysio
      @ClinicalPhysio  Před rokem +1

      Hi! Anti-inflammatory options are important but also the physiotherapy strengthening to come with it which can absolutely start before pain completely improves… but just be sure to keep things under tolerable levels of comfort. Ultrasound and Shortwave Diothermy not as helpful in experience. I would absolutely recommend you seek the advice and assessment of a physiotherapist face to face to help you

    I slept on my wrist wrong one night and have had this pain ever since. That was about a month an a half ago. This condition describes the pain I am feeling best. Is this a condition that can be cause by one isolated incident of minor trauma such as sleeping on the wrist incorrectly?
