    Oh gosh, Scott was my nickname, derived from Scooter. My first name is Phillip. I had my middle name legally changed to Scott when I turned 18. My Dad is Phillip Jr. His nickname is Butch. My Mom is Nana.
    I've tried to let my little dog have a little freedom from a leash and Corey, I know exactly what you were saying about being frustrated and upset with myself when she wouldn't listen, much less catch her and we live on a busy road. I remember just calling out to GOD to help me! HE did, as HE always does. HE's so good! This road is a death sentence to a loose animal. I've shoveled a lot of animals out of it.

    I had wondered...”Which is Chitter and which is Chatter?” Now I’m happy that I know, as I like their nicknames, “which was which or who was which”! I’ll bet they both “chattered and chittered” a lot as they grew up, and now, too! I really enjoyed this video a great deal! I’ll be anxious to know when you get your gardens started full time. They will be much sooner than in the north where I live! You have both already started with your “green stalks”...I think that’s what they are called. Thanks for showing Katie’s rings! They are really nice! I hope the March weather allows for early planting! 🌱🌷🍀

    Before I say anything else I want to tell you again how much I enjoy your channel. That being said, I hear you plan what you want to plant, how the new above ground beds figure into your garden etc. What I don't hear you talk about is how you will keep the deer from eating you out of house and home. Our experience was that the only sure way to keep them out was not to plant anything they will eat. We tried a number of things that helped a little, temporarily: hot pepper spray, noisemakers, Irish Spring on a string, motion activated water sprays, etc. I live in an urban area. Zoning regulations do not allow fencing higher than four feet which will not deter even the tiniest Bambi. (Twice last year a doe brought her new born twins to my fenced lawn and left them as though they were hidden. She retrieved them after dark.) I have seen as many as 7 deer in my yard eating acorns. It is illegal to discharge a gun in my county. There is no legal hunting here, even with bow and arrow.
    Of course you won't know for sure that you have a problem until your garden is up. The problem is that when they find your garden, it is already too late to come up with a plan. Our experience was that one night the deer came through and nibbled a little. The next night they ate substantially more. The third or fourth night the crop was gone. You may not want to erect an 8-foot fence (with a strand or two of electrified barbed wire) around your gardens, but that may be your best choice.
    As always, I wish you well. Bless you all.

    For slug problems, find you some thorny branches ie roses,wild blackberries etc. Cut them into 12 inch long pieces and line them up around the problem areas in 1 or 2 pieces thick ie garden etc. The thorns are an deterrent to stop the slugs from crossing.

My husband's family comes from the mountains of North Alabama/Georgia/Tennessee but have lived here in central Alabama for 4 generations. Have you ever seen “trail of tear” plants. They produce seeds/beads that can be used to make necklaces. The plant resembles a small corn plant and each plant has several seeds. They produce a variety of colors and they can be buffed to have a shiny coat. They have a natural hole completely through the seed so it is easy to thread as a necklace or bracelet.

    I have a cousin that lives in Sylva, NC. I wish we had a spring. seems like ours will go straight to summer this year. It's suppose to get to 86 today, but then turn cooler for our last little cold front. We didn't get enough rain this year, so I am afraid no bluebonnets this year. Usually bluebonnets cover the hills and turns them blue in the spring when we have a wet winter. The Mountain Laurel is really showing out though and the smell of the sweetness of them is wonderful! I need to replant my rosemary this year. It is one thing the deer will not touch, but the drought did them in. That's so cute how you named the girls, especially the nicknames. In East Texas mostly, most everyone has two names or are called two names. Lots of Jim Bobs and Jim Toms and with the girls an Anne or a May is added. Mine is Anne with my first name..lol Glad you got Olive. I had a 4lb chihuahua that use to run and follow the deer herd when he jumped off the deck. Scared me to death. So I am glad you got Olive quickly. Thanks for the prayers for my foot. It is finally easing up some. Beautiful rings. Well stay dry and enjoy the planting!! Have a great day!

    I tried making laundry detergent and found that it left a soap scum residue or buildup on clothing and towels that caused them to get a bad smell after awhile. I decided to stick with the detergent I liked that wasn’t so expensive but did a good job, Arm and Hammer liquid. Maybe add borax on really dirty loads. I use white vinegar (I buy a gallon jug) instead of fabric softener as well for other cleaning. I use hydrogen peroxide in a spray pump bottle to pre-treat blood or other protein stains, spray to saturated and rub the fabric together it dissolves blood and protein stains. I use Dawn dish detergent to pre-treat for greasy stains.

    There’s no relaxing , like letting down at mama’s house. Everytime, as an adult child , visiting my home place and my mama , I’m sleepy. Enjoy your Mom while you can , and make many memories ❤❤.

    No worries about Corie yawning. I have narcolepsy and I'm sleepy and yawning pretty much 24 hours a day. Well, not when I'm asleep. But I sleep anywhere from 12-15 hours a day. So yeah, the other 9-12 hours of the day. Except I also sometimes take naps. So anyway. What was I replying to? I almost fell asleep typing this comment.

    Well Tipper…we just got 12 inches of snow yesterday and freezing rain is coming up Thursday so I’m struggling to see any spring in our area up here in Michigan. We don’t really think about the garden seriously until the end of May. I haven’t even started any seeds yet but soon. I’m one of those gardeners who keep the houseplant industry going from January until mid April just to keep our hands in the soil. We have mud season and we wait to see if the river is going to stay in its banks or spill over. So a lot of things are on the agenda prior to being out in the gardens. But all in all God does give us enough days to grow the needed produce. It’s so nice to watch you getting your garden season in full bloom. Cori…I’ve always heard that excessive yawning and not being tired is due to the brain needs oxygen. You can use that reasoning because you are busy about all the things building your life…and that’s exhausting some days. Stacker rings are back in style? True to form…all things old are new again!!! Katie has a gift that will do her well over the course of her working career. Tipper, you and Matt are very blessed with these sweet, sweet girls. I enjoy them and you both as well…I chuckle often at all the stories because it’s just life that you are sharing and I love every bit of it. Happy gardening!!!:):):)

    I miss Appalachian Springtime(Farragut, TN)! I love when the Dogwoods bloom, and the banks of purple phlox. We live in Central Florida and Spring is real early and aggressive, unlike the gentle Springs in the mountains.

    My Birthday is March 9th. My Momma's is the the 15th. She brought me home on her Birthday and teased me always about being the one gift she could never return. She has very bad dementia now, but if I mention this, she remembers. Love your channel. God Bless.

    Something I've noticed about Appalachian culture Tipper is the way women get their full first and middle names in conversation. Does the same happen with the fellas? Over here it's the opposite way about, men get their first and middle name. Not as much now, not in the city or towns anyway, but rural areas it's still there or thereabouts. For example I worked with a guy called Willie, but people from his area called him William George. I asked him why and he said if you came from an area where the same surname prevails or you're from a large family, it's used to distinguish you when people talk about you to others, thought it was only particular to here.

    • @CelebratingAppalachia
      @CelebratingAppalachia  Před rokem

      Interesting! It happens here with men's names sometimes but not as often as with women 😀
