It's a common sight on Britain's roads, but Ford's Mondeo family car is anything but average! In fact, it's an almost flawless offering in the family car market. The five-door Mondeo has a massive boot, offers loads of passenger space and the most comfortable ride in its class. What's more, it's still fun to drive. Even basic Edge trim gets alloy wheels and air-conditioning, while top-level Titanium models are lavishly equipped. Of all the engines available the diesels are best, offering punchy performance with good economy - especially the green ECOnetic edition.

Saying goodbye to my mondeo 2010 today in exchange for a bmw 535d. Had mondeo for the last 9 years and absolutely love them. Exciting to drive into corners, cheap to run, and tonnes of space for the family. Genuinely sad to see her go 😢
I recently bought a 2010 ford Mondeo Titanium X sport....it's great car
Does 5 series corner better? Talking about grip level?
@@RallyVozacno, my dad had a mindeo titanium x sport then bought a 520d msport plus after that. The bmw was a nicer car in general but didn't match the handling of the mondeo.
Back when Matt was a Ford fan boy, now he's sticking with the germans for the courtesy cars he's getting :))
Mat Watson ????
@@mriganka9807 yep the guy reviewing the car in this video is Matt Watson
Very underrated everyday car. Good value and inexpensive to run.
Im looking to buy q 2010 mondeo titanium X
@@DublinDan do it I bought the 2.2 titanium x sport 2009 love it 👍
@@robynp7536 the X sports look incredible how much you pay
i just bought a 2cd hand titanium on 09 plate...really good condition 1 owner ..sat nav, parking sensors, fold in mirriors, really good tidy car , the steering is brilliant......love it.......
I drive a 2009 Ford Mondeo 2.0 petrol 125 BH and i have to say that the size and 5 gears are the only bad things that i can think of it ! the handling suspension leg room is just perfect ! I LOVE IT
I don't understand why Ford didn't give the petrol models a six speed gearbox
i fell in love with this car after James Bond film in 2007
this is the best car reviewer I ever seen. good job
Just bought the 2012 2.2 TDCI Ttianium X Sport. Really looking forward for delivery. Cracking car
Ive had a 1.8 diesel zetec Mondeo for about a year and half. Ive had to spend money on it to bring it back from previous owners abuse, but even when it was "on its last legs" it never once failed to get me anywhere. Now its almost 100% fixed it drives like a dream, cheap to run and very comfy. Its best described as being like a hotel lobby on wheels. Its been through heavy snow, heavy winds and heavy rain and floods... but its always brought me home.
My plan is to run it for another 3 or 4 years, look after it with regular checks and then see about a newer car. I imagine ill be very sad to see it go though, its a damn good car for sure. I never thought id love it as much as I do 🤷♂️
My 2007 Mk4 is still going strong at 222,000 miles. It's had some annoying niggles, like water leaks in the boot but thankfully most issues are well documented and easy to fix.
Matt Watson has matured like Top Gear. Once serious, now a lighthearted but can still pull off a decent review.
It’s the guy from carwow
I like Mondeo. I have Ford Mondeo 98 2.5 V6 with 170HP. It's a great car that's loads of fun to drive, but I could really use another gear. Otherwise a great car and you can get one in great shape for a great price!
I just hope your engine doesn't end up with the tick of death. I had a mk1 24v si and a mk1 ghia x manual both suffered head gasket failure. Weaks spots on the duratec v6 were cylinders 3 and 5. The water pumps on these cars had the plastic impeller which were prone to breaking leaving you with a hot engine. Once they overheat it's pretty much terminal. A friend of mine has an st200 which is showing signs of venting but hasn't entered cooling system...only a matter of time. Great engines but it had flaws.
It drives so much better than the insignia or any Vauxhall saloon
Drive a 2008 1.8 diesel with 235,000miles on it used it since 110,000miles, sometimes spend 14hrs in it, very comfy supportive seats, plenty of room indeed front & back, comfy ride, good soundproofing, nice cruise control as standard, heated front & rear screens, nice dash, Extremely large boot, bomb proof manual gearbox "clashed many times," would like more power though, pull in upper gears not good, if you let it run low on fuel few times dirt easily gets to injectors 4×£180 each so keep over half full, I use shell nitro diesel it seems to help stop injector problems, other than that its great.
Mark Littler Mine is 136k and even with a brand new clutch, flywheel and drive shafts, I still cannot get rid of a judder and wobble upon pulling away. Plus you hear a clanking sound when you release clutch when second gear is engaged. Mine's a 2011 model with the 1.6 eco diesel engine. The clutch pedal also grinds down when you depress it with the engine running, but when engine is off it's nice and smooth.
Chavassea Okeke I'm a driver but no mechanic, there are back st non franchised garages that just get stuck in like ones that rent out cars for minicabs with high mileages, that'll know straight away the problem, seems clutch job not done right, for worn synchromesh on second gear it would normally be difficult for it to engage with clutch down, judder after being the clutch could be tracking or worn track rod ends or different tyre tread or wear on front wheels or maybe worn engine mountings which also allow more vibration to the cabin.
Mark Littler I've replaced practically everything on it. From steering rack to track rods, wishbones, shock absorbers springs, driveshafts even the driver seat cushion is brand new.... the car has forced me to start looking at leasing a brand new car as this one has cost me a fortune as it is. The only things that's wonderful is the engine and it's very low fuel consumption plus the handling when all's going well....I thought replacing the clutch and flywheel would cure the shudder on pulling away but it hasn't.
Chavassea Okeke Try four wheel tracking to see the cars not out of alignment, i think the cheapest way to solve problems is to pay a few different mechanics to test drive the car and listen to their opinions, could still be a result of something you've supposed to have had done, but haven't had done properly, in the uk the govt mot safety test is a very cheap way of checking a car over for faults and they know the common faults of particular models.
Mark at wht mileage did u change the cambelt? I just recently bought mondeo 07 plate lovely car.
can't wait to see the next version on the road
Speaking of resale value, my parents bought a 1996 Mondeo in 2002 for $18 grand and in 2009 Toyota was prepared to buy it for $500.
From what I know the previous Ford Fusion was in the low cost area, basically a larger Fiesta with higher ground clearance and cheaper and more flimsy interior plastic , simple but pretty reliable made for opening markets like Eastern Europe and maybe India, I doubt however it's in the same class as Mondeo, or Focus.
I love the sitting position, really low and sporty. Not like in hatchbacks, where you sit high and almost on 90 ° angle.
Non of the reviewers ever take apart the car verbally like they should, everything he says is completely true, but since he was driving in the rain i struggle to see how he didn't figure out that when the windows are down the rain poors in from the roof and the overall water management is so unbelievably poor with all the water on the bootlid running into the boot deck as soon as you lift the boot up.
That being said its one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven and handles very very good for what it is.
Still the diesel engine has a horrible delay in the throttle mapping.
Flammen Official that's not a delay in throttle mapping, it's turbo lag!
IT IS BEAUTIFUL!
In fact, its appearance came from a concept car.
its sad it never got the gullwing doors though
It is what it is. It had some nice things about it. I can almost see this as a 60s-70s Batmobile.
Mate I had one of these but I migrated somewhere so we had so sell it ..... I am so sad it was an amazing family car
I have had this car since 2008 not a single problem great car really! I have had it for 175 000 miles now absolute quality
Thats brilliant, heres to thr next 175k
What engine? Still satisfied?
@Zlatni Plašt have a volvo v70 now the engine blew up at 240k miles it was the engine with 140hp. Good car, but my v70 is more comfortable.
@@alexc5228 2.0 tdci blew up? Which year is your V70 now? Mondeo was better in the corners?
@RallyVozac have a 2013 v70 summon it's like the Ford practicality wise and living in sweden servicing costs are low and no reliability problems.
vauxhall insignia gear shifter xD 2:05
It's a very great car. We have the estate version 2014. We were 5 adults from sweden to spain. 3 hole days we sat in it. I'm 190 cm tall and i have no problems sitting in that back seat 3 days a row, it's annoying.
roligt!
Thanks for this review
love this car !! ford mondeo awesome !!!
Hey, just bought a 2008 Ghia Mondeo 2nd hand, with 16" wheels. The ones on the video are 17 or 18 inches? Thanks!
@chitpaul Actually, all those silver bits inside are real aluminum so it looks pretty good in person. Although the last Mondeo (the one before 2010 facelift) looked better inside if you ask me.
the new fusion is the face lifted version of the mondeo, although apparently it will be completely a sedan so the rear door will be normal, but with a similar shape
@MacGyver920 ok? what do you guys use for work trucks over there for construction type work?
I have a 2009 Mondeo XR-5 Turbo (in Australia it's a sports version...I'm not sure it's available elsewhere. 2.5 litre 5 cylinder). I love it!
However....very thirsty, getting just under 10 L/100km (mostly winding country lanes), and some of the interior vinyl is coming unstuck, which is a shame because the interior is really cool looking!
One of the best cars i have owned, and i am a bmw man
"One of the best cars i ever owned, and i am a bmw man"
Then why don't you buy it then
You don't seem to be understanding what I just said... I said the Mondeo and Fusion will be the same when the Mondeo is eventually dragged over here from the states, had it's front headlights changed, and sold as the new Mondeo. The current Mondeo is not the same as the current Fusion, the 2014 Mondeo is pretty much the same as the current Fusion.
Just bought a 2011 mondeo, and I love it!
did you experience any problems with the gear box? i'm thinking about getting one with 85k on it do you recommend it ?
Abu Cezar funnily enough yes we did have problems, when we bought the car I noticed it was jumping out of first gear whilst pulling away. I had to have the bloke I bought if from send the gearbox away to a specialist to have it fixed which took 3 days. It was still under warranty though. I still have the car and the gearbox is still ok.
Stop Islam invading uk Support Tommy Robinson Love your Hou tube handle mate. Ive been following Tommy Robinson for years. btw. Could you compre this to any other cars like octavia? passat peugiot?
Tac Soldier Hi. i was replying to the guys post above. look at his you tube name. I understand what your saying by the way. im against political correctness preventing negative parts of islam being highlighted. thanks.
I'm getting my used Zetec estate next week, same year as your (facelift) , 2.0 tdci 140hp...seems a lot nicer than my 2004 Passat estate. I wont miss the heated seats, but I will miss the self dimming rearview mirror (I really love that little option, deals great with ricers that use chiness xenons 😂) ... but bluetooth, voice commands and mp3 are a fair trade for those plus that sony radio is cool 😁
Waiting for a review of the new Mondeo!
Vauxhall insignia turbo d
Mondeo MK5 facelift review would be great
This car looks very simple, fast and cool!
It’s held it’s value more than any other car similar at the time
Love a Mondeo
Matt´s favourite car
@heatfullrat this is true, and I can't wait to test drive it
this guy is a good car dealer. i like him.
Had mondeo for 12 yrs brilliant car comfortable reliable 👏 👌 57 plate. Zetec
I bought a 2009 mondeo a few weeks ago. It is the 1.8 tdci 125ps. The car is fine on the motorway, it's fairly quiet and the 6th gear is nice for motorway speeds. In and around town the car is horrible in my opinion. Very big and hard to navigate into parking places however I do have front and rear parking sensors so these really help. very slow to move off when there is a gap in traffic at a junction and almost stalls at times. The 1.8 tdci of these years have a wetbelt in place of the old timing chain system used on older 1.8 engines. These belts fail and the time and it is really the downfall of these engines because when they snap, bye bye engine. I have since replaced my wetbelt (which was in horrible condition and only 130k km on the car) and fitted a timing chain kit so hopefully this will prolong the life of the engine. The 1.8 also shudders at around 1500rpm and it seems that they all do this and it is just a "characteristic of the engine" which I feel is unacceptable but how and ever. All in all I would probably like to change the car for something else but it is not the worst car in the world by no means. If you do lots of motorway miles then I can see the 1.8 tdci mondeo being a great car.
Have you sell the car? I am about to buy the same as yours but I almost new in driving and most of driving I gonna use will be a round the city and while I like what mondeo looks I was said I will go for it so do you advise me to go for like Citroen C4 ?
@@mome6620 Hi, I didn't sell the car. I still have it. To be honest it is not a bad car and has been good to me over the last 2 years. It's up to you really what you go for. I would recommend you have a test drive in one around the city before you buy it to see if it suits your needs. I would recommend one with the front and rear parking sensors as the mondeo is a really long car and hard to navigate tight spaces but you get used to the size. The 1.8 diesel engine has been okay for me but as I said before make sure the maintenance on the wet belt is up to date or even chain converted as these are known to break if not changed regularly or chain converted. As for the sluggish pulling out of junctions comment that I made 2 years ago, you get used to this after a while. Good luck.

The car I gonna buy is mondeo 2007 1.6 ti-vct with 125 power horse banzin - it goes 13.5 km per liter - and has a 165 .000 and all the previous service has been a compiled.
I was put my eyes on another car Citroen c4 which has more fuel econmy but many advised me that I will face many problems in the electricity so I got back again to Ford mondeio
So from your experience have you got any troupples and need to vistit the servise shop or change any parts that cost a lot of money or it's a reliable car that does not cause many breakdowns?
Thanks for answering my questions 😍
@@mome6620 Well my mondeo has been reliable for me. Since the mondeo you mention has a different engine to mine you will have to do your own research as I can't comment on that.

@flatblackstrat ADAC (German insurance company) says that less than 6 Mondeos out of 1000 (thousand, not hundred) are registered with malfunctions throughout the year. Ford Mondeo is German car, in fact (produced in Cologne). I believe that's enough said about reliability and quality.
Great car - just wish I had the guts to change from my 520d to a less "premium" but just a good a car as this. Badge snobbery - stupid but a reality.....
Ford can’t charge German money so there are places it will struggle to compare to a 5 series.
@MacGyver920 nope if you live in Europe its assembled in Belgium
Interesting, my Mondy doesnt have that lip when folding down the seats.
Has anyone had any transmission issues with these cars? Thinking of purchasing a 2012 Mondeo Zetec Td
My favorite car from Ford Europe! :-D
so when you say you can get great discounts at dealers means ? they are struggling to sell them, and its your favourite car i can tell
I like it, go forward Ford!
No, the New Fusion and the "new"(rather facelifted) Mondeo are the same car, although there are little diferences Ford said that their cars will globalize, the diferences between models sold in one or another country will now be less severe.
I'm looking at a 2008 mondeo. it's 2l desil. ..auto gear box... anyone recommend one
this is a BMW 3 series of its class! Nice car
@flatblackstrat Well the new Explorer I believe is based on the Taurus and I think you're right the Kuga will replace the Escape. We'll see. The Escape is pretty out dated. Yeah, I guess in time we'll see. I see what you're saying. I think its just platform sharing and flexibility to cut costs. So if car A is sold in the U.S. the platform might be used for another car outside the U.S. (of course modified) for a different car and model. If that makes sense.
serious, what do you have with cupholders??!!
The fusion is nice isn't it? Also: the taurus? I'd love a taurus.
@flatblackstrat Well Mulley said he will use global platforms including the U.S. We have the Fiesta and will get the global Focus soon. I'm guessing the next Fusion will look like the Mondeo if you're going by the logic of Ford's new global plan but also design. Nice car indeed.
At 2:06 is that not a vauxhall insignia gearstick
with a 2.0 enigine its a nice car for a trip to italy..
Ford Mondeo 1.6 TDCi ECO Edge 5dr 14 plate 110000 miles how much worth what's the main issue for hight mileage
@flatblackstrat You have the mustang and the taurus, i think you're doing pretty well.
@neandertalac Car insurance is obligatory in Japan as well but it doesn't give any reference to a cars reliability, since it is only for body work and repair in the case of an accident for the one not at fault. I have obligatory and supplemental on my car but it come from the dealer that way. Also registering your car is not a trip to the mechanic, it is just an inspection for road worthiness. People could fix their cars before they register them. I do appreciate the info though, interesting.
So a few years past since this generation came out... how's the releability chapter on this model? Did any of you mondeo men had significant issues with it??
I have a 2009 2.0 TDCi Titanium X 5dr hatch, and it has zero rust, has covered 183K miles, and all I have had to aside from routine servicing, is a lower ball joint and a track rod end.
The mk4 Mondeo is a fantastic car.
so why now new gen Mondeo (FUSION)??
on this model....the distribution is it on chain or belt ? to be exact ...III 1.8 TDCI 125 TITANIUM
Belt. Change it!
1:43 yo wt hell is that fam.😂😂😂
hmm what to chooce, the Ford mondeo or the hyundai i40? ....
the 2007-present Ford Mondeo is assembled in
Genk, Belgium
Vsevolozhsk, Russia
Chongqing, China
Tao-Yuan, Taiwan
Rayong, Thailand
Hello. Does the Ford Mondeo mk4 make a lot of noise inside the car while driving?
From what I have read, Ford mobdeo mk4 2012 is only
right inside good on noise but nothing better than that. 70db and more in 100kmh is too much. Mondeo 2012 measured 66db in 100kmh on a test I read
I have a Mondeo and is not so noisy but little bit
@flatblackstrat I have the 1998 version in the US, the mercury mystique (ford contour)
The LS version, DOHC V6, its a GREAT car.
@TheStormbird you should, THERE IS A NEW MODEL NOW!
Its better looking if you get the Titanium X with the styling around it
It's better looking if you get a nice, new one. The one above is the old face. It's the Fusion in the US, and with it's Aston Martin-like grill (to begin with) it's one of the best looking American sedans.
Yah, I know that but its not available yet in europe..
Also, I meant this generation (mk5) not the new which comes this summer or later this year
MK.5 is the new version which just launched last month.
Yeah, and goes on sale early summer 2015
looking fored to see mate take out the 2013 ford Mondeo 5 door it way better
They won't make a hatchback version-or maybe I should say liftback- for the european market, like the one in this review?
If so that might cost them some sales. A car that looks like sedan but has a huge hatch at the back is a pure winner-both looks and practicality.
KAMOMI well you can choose the estate for for this car in a hatch stlye then you got the focus RS or ST
Because you have the Fusion and the Taurus SHO.
I watch a lot of uk car programs, web sites etc. and in most of the videos it rains хаха it's funny for me, guess it won't be if I lived there.
Since when was the mondeo a large car?
Only in Europe is the Mondeo a "large family car" in the U.S it's midsize, the Ford Taurus for example is fullsized.
Have you ever seen it in real life?
i have a mondeo and i have to say its a good car .
@ladeninlogen Or the new Peugeot 508?
@zippy476 Next Mondeo comes here as the Fusion. It'll be here in 6 months.
Matt, 12 years ago!^^
1:36 the UK mondeo isn't built in Germany?
The 2014 Mondeo is not a facelift, it's a new model. Hence why it's called the 'MK5'. The current Mondeo is a MK4 facelift (MK4 is the 2007 Mondeo launched with Ford's kinetic design) then MK4 facelift is with some extra posh things added; LED DRL's, new hood, new grille, new LED rear lights, interior updates, new options like driver alert and lane departure warning, BLIS and even Active park assist, new premium sound system etc. The MK5 2014 Mondeo is entirely new, apart from 1 or 2 engines.
Its a facelift
@flatblackstrat
It's for European and some Asian market only and it not have saloon version
the new fusion is the same as the 2014 mondeo which will come next year and in europe we will also get an estate
I'm looking for a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi or 1.9 TDCi black 5-door Titanium
from 2009-2010 until 2018 and a prince until 6000 euro
Nice cars
The center console and his phone seem having the same designer.
Car from the rear?¿
why cant we have liftbacks in canada?
2:13 volvo s90 will be like : am I a joke to you . That steering and the safety belong to us
What about the engines ?
@scaremengaviation Focus is like "topolino" next to Mondeo. :D
GOOD
Lol pause the video at 2:05... thats the gearshift from Vauxhall Insignia :P
Care to elaborate why??
