    www.kbb.com/ho...
The 10th generation Honda Accord arrived for the 2018 model year. So no, it’s not new.
First, what’s new. Well, following a mid-cycle refresh…there’s the graphic…the Accord benefits from subtly refreshed exterior styling, updated features, and a new Sonic Gray Pearl paint color that I wouldn’t have mentioned if our test car hadn’t come covered in it.
As a man of the people, I’m pleased to note this vivid 8-inch touchscreen with its clearly distinguished icons, intuitive layout, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity have slinked their way down to the cheapest LX trim.
Honda has also updated the standard Honda Sensing suite of active driver assists. They say the adaptive cruise control decelerates more smoothly and that lane-keeping assist has a more natural lane-centering feel.
In terms of safety, a rear seatbelt reminder comes standard, and a low-speed braking control feature has been added to the Touring trim, utilizing the parking sensors to warn of impacts and automatically apply the brakes at speeds below 6 mph.
Elsewhere Honda has changed the accelerator yielding snappier responses…though maximum acceleration remains the same, while EX trims and above now offer all-LED lighting, wireless phone charging, Wireless CarPlay, and Android Auto, and rear USB ports, whose omission I complained about in my original 2018 Accord review.
For a “midsize” car rear-seat legroom is absurd. I’m too damn average to show it off. Mike Danger, show ‘em what I’m talking about.
Upfront the layout is simple and functional with clearly labeled buttons and controls. Oh, and when you turn the knobs they have a nice little click.
The trunk provides a healthy 16.7 cubic feet, enhanced by a sizable passthrough to the cabin.
-Speaking of, the cabin features a big center console, a deep USB-adjacent storage area, and a highly adjustable driver seat.
As a bonus, with the steering wheel set low as I prefer, I can still see the gauge cluster without obstruction.
Alright, that’s enough montage. It’s a useful gimmick I’d rather not wear out.
Amongst all the praise I should also note that more premium rear door panels might be nice in our $32k tester. I also noticed a sizable gap on the passenger side of the hood.
Moving on, the Accord drives really well. Visibility is clear in all directions, road noise is a distant rumble, and the steering provides satisfying heft with direct, predictable responses from the chassis.
Oh, let’s test that more responsive acceleration. Oh yeah, that’s snappier.
    While on the subject of acceleration, the Honda Accord’s turbocharged 4-cylinder engine roster includes a 1.5-liter (192hp, 192 lb-ft) that’s powerful enough for most buyers' needs but there’s also a 2.0-liter (252hp, 273 lb-ft).
The 1.5-liter (up to 30city/38hwy) is matched to a continuously variable transmission that, among CVTs, is comparatively inoffensive. Meanwhile, the 2.0-liter (22city/32hwy) is partnered with a generally transparent 10-speed automatic transmission.
Filling out the powertrain lineup is the Accord hybrid whose two-motor hybrid powertrain (212 Total Horsepower) and lithium-ion battery pack deliver stellar efficiency for a midsize sedan. (up to 48city/48hwy)
In base sub-$25k form, the Accord LX includes dual-zone automatic climate control, 8 airbags including front knee airbags, and the previously mentioned Honda Sensing suite of active driver-assist technologies.
Available on higher trims are heated front and rear seats, leather, SmartKey entry to accompany the standard push-button start, ventilated front seats, and, reserved for the loftiest Touring trim, adaptive dampers to improve ride and handling.
Competing for your midsize sedan attention are the sporting Mazda6, the unexpectedly sassy Toyota Camry, the intriguing Hyundai Sonata, plus plenty of others (Nissan Altima, Kia K5, Subaru Legacy).
In short, you’ve got lots of great choices.
But if you come to me and say “Hey Micah, I’d like to buy a 10th-generation Accord”, I still happily give you my blessing.

@@stanmarcusgtv That is so true. I was driving home from work today, about a 30 - 35 minute commute, thinking what an amazing machine the Accord was. The ride is sublime. The handling is terrific. The power is stout. The driving experience is simply delightful. The car looks so good too. Mine is Lunar Silver Metallic with gray interior. Almost every time I park it, I find myself looking back at it as I'm walking away. I don't want to say this, because I truly loved the Acuras I owned before getting this Accord 2.0T, but this car is the best driving car I've ever owned. It really is an awesome vehicle. I can't stop raving about it.

I have the 2018 and a CRV (2017), I drive the Accord to work and wife drives the CRV but we occasionally trade. The one thing I enjoy in the CRV is the shorter length as it makes parking easier, both on the street and also in parking lots. The Accord is very long. That being said I’m very happy with the Accord, I feel it has the best infotainment setup, everything is intuitive and I’m not fumbling to do what I need to do. Have two car seats in the back and kids get in and out easily. If I keep Econ on in my 2.0 L, my 12 mi commute to work is about 30-32 mpg and this is going into downtown Chicago. But some mornings I do use the Sport mode and then I drop to 18-20 mpg. But if I leave it normal mode I average 24-26 mpg. Again this is the 2.0L Touring.

Soooo I owned a 2018 Accord 2.0T Touring.... and I loved it. As much as I LOVE the sportiness of my Type R, the accord was more than quick enough for daily driving, it was a monumentally competent road trip car (33-37mpg on most trips), comfortable for commuting, handled well and really just never gave me any trouble. It made my life easier, was competent at everything I asked it to do and that to me, is a hallmark to a great car. I honestly want another one to daily drive in the crowded city streets of LA.

Have you compare it to Camry ?

    • @googleit1131
      @googleit1131 Před 3 lety +19

@@rangga_i I did, I drove both before purchasing the Accord. The Camry has slightly less fuel economy (assuming you don't get the base Camry), has weirdly a lot less power, and, to me, doesn't look nearly as nice (inside or outside) as the Accord. With the Accord, the interior is simple but very functional and, in my opinion, much more beautiful. The materials are nicer in the Accord. The Accord's infotainment screen looks nicer and more modern compared to the functional but outdated looking Camry's screen. The interior of the Camry is more complex, with stylistic lines and angles in a lot of places (Not my thing, but I can see the appeal). To me, there's a sense of clutter in the Camry that just isn't present on the interior of the Accord. Essentially, the Accord feels more expensive than it actually is.
However, the biggest thing that determined me getting the Accord over the Camry was two things. 1, there's a million Camry's out there and I wanted to stand out a bit. 2, and more importantly, is the power, fuel economy, and the transmission. The current Toyota transmission, while reliable, feels like trash (at least in the few Toyota models I've driven; RAV-4, Camery, and Corrola). There's a huge amount of lag, incredibly disruptive engine start/stop function, and it lacks in power for a car at its price. With the Accord Hybrid, it feels better engineered compared to the Camry. Also, there is an absurd amount of room for passengers in the Accord (I'm pretty sure the Camry has a good amount too, but I don't own it and could test it with my friends).
The one major downside to the Accord is the awful sound system. If you keep the sound system on its default settings, it's absolutely terrible, especially if you're use to listening to songs on nicer headphones or speakers. You can easily change the settings to make it sound much better (you have to access the developer menus to really get the sound quality up) but even then some songs still sound pretty bad. But other than that, I have no complaints.
The Accord Hybrid (in EX-L or Touring), to me, is the closest you can get to a luxury car without paying luxury car prices. The Camry, while by no means a bad car, just doesn't feel as nice or refined. To me, it, and most Toyotas that aren't off-road vehicles, is the perfect car for people who just want transportation and don't care about cars. It's the perfect vehicle for those who just want basic, reliable transportation. But the Accord does all that and then some.
Basically, both are good and I'd say test drive both. To me, the Accord is far better than the Camry.

@@BDAILY365 I paid around $30,000 for the hybrid EX-L trim (with some additional accessories I didn't want but were already installed). I don't mean to be a downer, but I highly doubt you'll see any end-of-year discounts this year. With the semiconductor shortage on Honda barely producing cars right now (along with most of the auto industry), my guess is if you buy a new car now you'll probably pay sticker price or more. I just checked my local dealer and they have the same car I bought a few months ago with a sale price OVER sticker price. Hell, I could probably sell my car and make back more than what I paid for it. I'd say wait until next year when production gets back to normal. Or maybe things are different where you live.

There is a bit boring tech in the Accord though it functions fine. To me the interior just looks crisp and clean. It looks much nicer in person. However, the driving dynamics is where you will notice the difference. It feels more planted/smooth/responsive/buttoned down than the Kias/Hyundais/Nissans. Even Toyotas, IMO. I LOVE the Accord leather steering wheel and it has heavier feeling steering yet super connected which I love.

With Hybrid models starting EX and above, you get wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play. EX gasoline model had been discountinued. Instead Honda introduced a Special Edition Sport ( it's almost the same as Sport plus some other upgrades like leather heated seats with smart entry ). Touring 2.0l, Sport 2.0l, EX-L 1.5t ( 2.0l has been discountinued ), you get wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play. There more changes for the EX-L trim level. In 2018 when the 10th generation Accord debuted I seriously considered several midsize sedans. On my checklist the Accord 2.0L Touring model came out on top, nosing out the Mazda6, the (then new) generation Camry, and several other contestants. Didn't purchase any, though. I re-upped on a GTI from a previous generation. Just couldn't imagine not having a GTI. These days I've been considering the midsize sedan market again. This time as an addition to the garage. The Accord is still attractive but despite soft sales in the segment the competition has gotten much tougher.
The KIA K5 GT and the Sonata N-Line are tempting with the new 2.5L turbo 4 that KIA/Hyundai/Genesis are putting in at least 7(!) new models. MSRPs a bit less than the Accord and arguably equal or better features. Even more intriguing, though, are a couple of other vehicles. The 2022 Stinger base model has the same 4 cylinder engine as the K5 GT and Sonata and a DCT that's not quite in the same league as my GTI's but apparently a significant upgrade over the Korean brands' previous efforts. Further, the Stinger provides the RWD-biased AWD while the K5 GT and Sonata are only FWD and without the saving grace of an LSD. Very quick (5.2 seconds 0-60), it's only half a second behind the far more expensive Stinger GT1 and GT2. And with a liftback the Stinger is arguably a Korean version of a German GT (Grand Touring) sedan designed to appeal to Americans.
The sleeper choice is the mid-trim SEL R-Line Arteon from Volkswagen. More upscale interior than either the Stinger or the Accord its MSRP is a bit less than $45K with AWD but dealers in my area are offering it at $38K plus TTL. That puts it in the same neighborhood as a comparably loaded Accord 2.0L Touring model and with a number of features (most notably AWD, adaptable dampers, electronic LSD) that the Accord lacks. Comes stock with the EA888 engine found in the GTI and Golf R among other VWs) with 268HP and 258ft lbs of torque. On paper the Arteon doesn't look as strong as the base Stinger but VW engine specs are notoriously under-speced. And if the Arteon's version of the engine isn't enough a Stage I tune from APR at a price of $500-$1000 completely erases the Stinger's performance advantage.
Bottom line. The Accord 2.0L Touring model is a fine automobile. But these days I'd put the K5 GT, the Sonata N-Line equal to or superior to the Honda. And if one is wiling to pay for a top trim version of any of those vehicles, the GT-Line Stinger and the SEL R-Line Arteon offer more than any of them (imo) for about the same price.
