I just remember being a teenager and hearing about how special it was that Jessica saved herself for marriage. Can we just talk about how wierd it is that we know this information. Like why do we know this.
I'll try to explain without slut shaming, but it was a VERY slut shaming time. These record industry guys wanted to present young girls as hot as possible, but also make them "acceptable" to their fans' parents by making their virginity (real or not) a VERY big deal. It was all just so awful.

Jessica’s autobiography is an incredible read. She talks about how she was passed up for Mickey Mouse club bc she was too similar to Britney, and then all her life she kept coming in 2nd place to Britney. 😢

I watched some sort of documentary about her back in the day, and I remember her talking about the pressure from her record label at the time (late 90s/ early 00’s). They kept asking her to lose more and more weight to compete with Britney and Christina, and so she did.
Then they said to her “ok great but for the next album can you have a 6 pack?” That horror stuck with me to this day.

I thought it was because she choked when it was her turn to sing?. She was watching Christina perform and she got scared and didn't want to follow that performance. She had a very powerful voice and probably would have made it if she didn't get in her head and just performed. It wasn't because of Britney. That being said she was compared to Britney constantly after all of that. Also I don't see how they wanted her to be thinner. She wasn't fat and Britney wasn't a twig. Britney was athletic and fit. If they really wanted her to look like Britney they should've just had her workout and get some muscle.

I think Jessica Simpson is an underrated singer. She is an incredible vocalist! I think they wouldn't let her show her real voice that often at the time because God forbid she upstage Britney or Christina.

In my opinion, she was a better singer than Christina in her early career but then she started doing a bad impersonation of Britney for the rest of it.
They actually did that bc she was being prepared to be a Mariah/Britney type of hybrid from the start to attempt to cash in or "upstage" her peers in that way. Not her fault, but I'm pretty sure she went in depth into it and there were some documentary clips from her early career talking abt it
She was supposed to be one of Mariah Carey's replacements. Covering the big ballad arena. But, her switching to a soft singer had to do with her label. According to them, audiences were only buying music they could sing along to or with. So, big vocalists were out. Jessica wasn't happy about having to sing softly.
I feel like Jessica was incredibly intimidated by Jewel. It was like watching a little sister trying to imitate their big sister. lol

The car is from an 80s TV show called "Knight Rider". It was about a crime fighter played by David Hasselhoff and his talking car. Nick's idol was the talking car from the show that he probably loved as a kid growing up.

My dad worked security for her at a venue for a couple of days, and he said she was absolute most wonderful woman to work with. He said she was so kind and funny. He really speaks highly of her anytime somebody says something negative about her.

I am 63 and grew up on variety shows, and I love this. We need more shows like this, also loved Donny and Marie. Brings back memories of simpler times.

Yeah it was definitely modelled on the Sonny and Cher show. Musical performances interdispersed with silly skits and just playing around having fun.
I saw Jessica Simpson perform at Wango Tango in 2004( I think) and she was amazing. She also shaded Janet Jackson and Britney Spears pretty hard. It was great she came out and performed and said something like, "You'll notice unlike some singers here today. I didn't just come out and lip sync to my own songs." She wasn't wrong.

Jessica auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club. She made it pretty far, but during the final audition she had to sing right after Christina. She was so nervous after Christina absolutely killed it. She froze and bombed the audition.
They really were a cute couple, you’re not wrong. Nick was stunning back in the day. And Jessica has an amazing voice, she can still sing. Thanks for another piece of nostalgia that I didn’t know I needed. ♥️

I have chronic episodic major depressive disorder, but seeing other people happy and laughing makes me feel a bit better. Plus I enjoy these videos bc we have a similar sense in humor. 😊 and Home Depot for a cat’s name is hilarious and anyone who says otherwise needs to pull the stick out their butthole.

I'm a bit older than you Jaime so I do remember this being a thing. I never saw it back then, so thanks for sharing the gems. I knew it didn't last very long, I thought there was more than one show. Every now and then someone tries to revive the variety show concept, Wayne Brady had one for awhile. I think it's interesting to note that this came out in 2004 and she filed for divorce in 2005. This was a good one! ❤

Your humor reminds me to not take anything so seriously that I can't crack a smile or belt out a laugh at any moment.
I was on stage for 14 years and even at school I was lead female vocalist in the choir and always doing talent shows and I was sickly nervous every time so mad props to anyone who does live shows whether that be acting, singing, dancing or doing the full works. Also Jessica is so talented but was just using a weird technique in song lol and I miss Jess and Nick, I still watch Newlyweds on CZcams hehe.

Loved Jessica Simpson, her voice is amazing. 98 Degrees was one of my favorite boy bands back in the day. I actually still have the 98 Degrees and Rising CD. I remember being so happy that they hooked up and got married. They were so cute together. 🥰 It was so sad to hear that they broke up and went separate ways. Years later, I listened to a Podcast called Imagined Life and it shared Jessica’s life. I had no idea what was really going on, how so many people tried to control her, and how low she felt about herself. She has overcome so much and has helped other women to build back their confidence and be strong. She truly is a force to be reckoned with. ❤💪
