What is a side channel blower?

At Sjerp & Jongeneel www.sjerp-jong... we are specialized in, among other things, side channel blowers. What is a side channel blower? and what can you do with it? To show this right, I'm going to saw one through, but for that I first have to weld the impeller. Dutair side channel blowers can be controlled with an inverter between 1,800 and 4,800 rpm. It is shown nicely by the cross section, that there are channels on either side of the fan where the pressure is built up. At the bottom we see that the channels are blocked. Due to the barrier at the end of the channel, the air can leave the pump housing. With this operating principle, a lot of pressure or vacuum is built up in a relatively small space. In general we can say that the longer the channel, the higher pressure or vacuum can be generated. To get the right working area for every application, we produce the side channel blowers in different configurations. Here we have a rotor with two impellers and this is a side channel blower with three impellers. For lower pressures we have an extensive range of centrifugal fans and for higher pressures the highly efficient line of Dutair turbo blowers. Dear Mr. Maue. It is not recommended to use a side channel blower as a compressed air generator. If we only look at the side channel blower principle, then the pneumatic compressed air energy will lead to little shaft power. Also because you have a lot of pressure available and side channel blowers are designed for lower pressures and higher volume flow.

Thanks for your question Mr Tonito. Yes, it is possible, but the differential pressure(Dp) between the in- and outlet of the side channel blower is limited. The Dp is limited to the maximum pressure specified at the rated frequency in the vacuum characteristic. Generally the vacuum characteristic has a lower maximum pressure then the pressure characteristic. Actually, it is usually the case: some pressure on the outlet in a vacuum application or the other way around(due to filters, silencers, piping and so on). In a pressure application there will always be some sort of filter installed. A dirty cartridge filter must be replaced before a Dp over the filter of 60 mbar. In this example the 60 mbar has to be deduct from the maximum pressure of the side channel blower at the rated frequency.
