quinns you cheeky bastard, that acrylic box flood shot was designed to spike blood pressure and pulse rates wasn't it! :)
it's true. i felt it as well.
I was still suffering for the wood components, though.
AHHHH! AHHHHHHHHH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! poor sheep.
Just paused the video to read the comments and see if this raised as much ire in others as it did in myself. Glad i'm not the only one!
I'm finally desensitized to such things. I have ascended, gloriously, and have seen that all things shall end. With such inevitability on the horizon, who has the capacity to fear the floor of filth over fantastic components?
I was terrified when I saw water being poured on a board game, I have clearly been bamboozled.
Matt and Quinns is 2 best mates talking about games. Paul and Quinns are Brothers talking about games.
So great seeing the two of you two back together doing that thing you do!
Reading the sex book?
I really like Matt, but it's good to see another episode with Paul again. :) In the older SU&SD videos, I always like the clashing moments between Quinns and Paul (like at 13:45 here) , when you disagree on something and provide different views, while eventually ending on a commonly shared chuckle. Other than that: Nice link tattoo, Quinns. Nice burp, Paul.
I remember playing Paul Dean on the Apple II, his graphics were poor even for the time but made up for it with clever scenarios and good AI.
Paul "Buuurp!!! ahhhhh" , Quinns (without skipping a beat) "...that's going in the video." I really enjoy the banter and friendship you share with each other. I find myself laughing and learning whenever I watch your videos.
I feel like someone's mother here, but "Quintin, did you get a tattoo on your body!?"
Oh he is SO grounded
And is that a Netrunner tattoo...? Oh Quintin...
Yes it is the Link symbol.
so Quinn got a base link of 3
So, Quinns, you got back into Netrunner then? Thought you'd had a falling out.
The 8:37 bit is absolutely incredible. Still, would love to have a full interpretation like in the bit at the old guys house in Hot Fuzz!
It’s “nul punten” in dutch btw :D new fan but already addicted to your reviews guys
8:37 best skit in recent memory
I'm so glad Paul and Quinns are back together.
But now I miss Matt!
Is there any way all 3 of you could review a game? Could any game be worth that?
Or what about Matt and Paul, what would their dynamic be like?
Also make Matt cook again!
Gods, just make all the things.
The thumbnail for this video looks like Quinns is politely ignoring that old drunk at the pub who won't leave people alone.
I saw this posted as "SU&SD Recommends" on the website a couple days ago, and the anticipation was KILLING me.
You guys are awesome!
Ha Ha, I couldn't believe it when I saw that water shot. "Are these guys crazy?!?!?! Who's gonna wreck a game for... oh, wait... he's just trolling us".
This game looks really good, think I may have to get it... after I've spent all my saved money's on will the other games on my wishlist... lol.
I bought it bc of this review and I really like it!
"Who doesn't enjoy a paddling pool? Fascists!" I laughed way too hard at that final joke...
Also, I am surprised that you did not seem to enjoy Fields of Arle...
7:49 that was anxiety-inducing until I saw the little nub at the center of the plastic tray. You got me! Thumbs-up back at you, Quins.
10:10 is that how you make more sheep?
OMG Paul's Dutch farmer impression is wonderful!
Loved the review! You are such a strong source of positive energy in my life. Love you! Will get this because it looks superfun and i will disregard your qualifications toward the end completely!
That water flooding I was panicking ! Smart cheeky b.
Thanks for the review, I was looking for something similar to Agricola but not quite A Feast for Odin and this looks right up my alley.
Also I wanted to say that I love the link tattoo, Quinns.
Always great to see you two together. Excited to have Paul back on the regular. You guys do great work, making it look fun and easy.
What’s the overlap square tattoo?
It's a reference to Netrunner:)
Someone woke up early this morning!
Great review fellas. This really reminds me of "Get Off My Lawn" in ways!
OMG I WANT THIS GAME!!!!! As soon as I heard you guys talking about this on le Podcast I knew I needed it.
omg. The prop-ur yorkshure accents are destroying me. *This* is why I support y'all.
I'm so glad I found this channel half an hour ago. I have something to do for the next few days
I said the same thing in 2011
glad to hear I'll be here till 2025
We need subtitles for the jerk farmer bit.
I bought the game shortly after I returned from a vacation in the Netherlands and I heard about it on the podcast. And I had to say I was skeptical. But my mom loved Agricola and any game with sheep so we had to try it. And after two games I was hooked. It's really that good I still think about this game's puzzle!
"Who doesn't enjoy a paddling pool? Facists"
Holy crap Watchmen reference.
Yes. I am new to your channel and I am loving it :)
hbomberguy tweeting about voting send me here.
Thanks for the review as always. Great balanced commentary on this one.
Omg, loved the watchmen reference
This is on the Mount Rushmore of SU&SD reviews. Its quality alone should sell the game by the truckload.
Hit shuffle on the 'recommended' Shut Up & Sit Down playlist - and it gives me video 53. CZcams knows.
That Watchmen quote was awesome. Well done sir Quenton.
This game needs to have an expansion where the flood that comes in from the sea is the flood cheap wool from Australia crashing the value of the players' sheep when the Cutty Sark comes into harbour.
That was a great review guys! Keep up the good work!
Gosh Paul and Quinn's together in a review again! Always work so well together haha
Great Video! Just bought Concordia this week on Amazon. They reprinted it and changed the art a bit on the cover!
One of my favourite sea shanties in Assassin's Creed Black Flag is "Lowlands Away" and I encourage everyone to look that up right now.
I feel like some shady things were happening beyond the main focus of this shot at 10:10 ;)
Excellent review as always. This seems like a “try before I buy” for me.
New to the channel and adoring your content. Thanks!
11:02 "That's going in the video." lol
I wish Paul would just move back to England so we can get more reviews with the duo together.
;-; now paul is gone.
I love these reviews.
Visually, I think both of you are right: yes, the grass and trees and all the natural elements are gorgeous, but it could pop more. See, whati think could work is: keep the farm tiles style the same, no changes whatsoever, it's calm and gorgeous as is, but the side tracker where you put workers, that could have used... dunno, make it like a logbook page or a pergamin, something not green, to have a more distinct color that would make the whole piece pop more visually. Perhaps add icons to it in bright colors. It would make the farm with it's more relaxed tones look even more relaxed when contrasted with the slightly more aggresive and strong contrast of the side-tracker, and help the whole piece have more life in it.
Regardless it is indeed quite a lovely design.
Love the Link tattoo
Love your work, fellas. You definitely should review 'star saga' by mantic games - because I need to know if my monies should be spent there. Do this and I will show my super cool tatt so Quinns wont feel so alone when his mother gets upset that he has a tattoo.
Stalin bit just made me burst out laughing xD
How quick did you race to edit this Quinn in order to throw Paul's belch into the video? ;)
Loving the ANR tat Quinns
Quinns, would you consider making available what is currently on your games shelf at any given time?
I think that'd be an interesting resource to have.
Yes, I just about had a heart attack thinking you were pouring water on your playing board! Nice one.
I did buy Cancordia and my family thoroughly enjoys it. Very fun and simply. So thank you SU&SD.
I like the idea of the kind of cooperative big bad thing looming during the game. It's an interesting way to spice up the usual farming malarky!
Awesome! I was able to pick up a copy of Viticulture Essential Edition I Love it. What are Y'alls thoughts on it? If I missed where you've stated this my apologies. No, I'm not Texan. Im New Mexican.
As a sheepfarmer from the netherlands. I NEED this game. Meeeeh
You guys keep talking about a box with no air in it as a good thing and I just have this reaction of horror imagining myself struggling to get everything back in in a way that'll let the lid close completely.
This game looks great. I'm excited to see if one of my friends has it now. Also, why is Luvdisc in your couch?
8:10
Nice watchmen quote!
"I wish more games looked more adult". Thanks for that. As a gamer in my 30's there's one thing I dislike about board games: most of them still look like a toy for kids or silly adolescents, even though the gameplay itself is way more mature. Art designers seem to have missed this train. Many gamers have grown up (and developed an actual aesthetic sense), many games have grown up.
That is not to say I specially like this game's art design, though.
I cant think of many heavy "adult" games were the art is childish ... do you have any examples in mind ?
"Alchemists" is one that comes to mind. It took me a couple of months to convince a chemist, non-gamer friend of mine to give it a try. He looked at the box and dismissed my claims about the game being a witty parody of how the science world works. When I finally convinced him, he was immediately hooked to it.
Sorry If I am entering this hobby right now and "less adult" themes appeal me, I mean, how can I convince my group to even consider to play that, when Terraforming Mars already exists
We're talking about the art design, not the theme.
There are SO many ways to make vibrant, colorful games with clear iconography without going toy-like. Like, idk... art noveau? Natural science illustrations? Collage? Waiting for stuff to pop up that doesn't look so... Euro.
beautiful sheep placement at the start
quality videos as always
fyi i really adore your video reviews
Hey Paul/SUSD,
Blast from the past question here: Did you ever release that supposed video of Paul fighting off a would be assassin way back when he was one of them Londoners?
I was sold on this game after listening to your podcast, even before this wonderful video review. Typing this comment as I'm running out to go buy Lowlands.
There's a Hendriks Gin advert where the narrator properly sounds like Quins
Paul is such a gameplay expert.
Farmer accents are best thing I've seen all week.
08:10 Nice Watchmen reference there.
Lisboa, YES! I'm #teamquinns on the art here, "rainy aquarelle" style is the perfect fit here. And what about that sweet forearm tatoo, is it new? A subtle reference to your friends on the pachyderm channel perhaps? Is this some kind of rite of passage for boardgame reviewers now? Will Paul get a cool bear tatoo too?
Nice review. Also nice to hear someone from down south pronounce Birmingham properly!
What a good video, as always. This game is very nice!
Can someone spell what Paul says at 8:50? Please.
luiscarlosqg
As a none native English speaker, my best guess would be "something Scottish". 😉
Another excellent review by SU&SD, as commented by your friendly neighborhood UK game designer - and yes we do exist!
In the three-player shot, you can only sell or buy sheep from one row on the market. Matt placed one sheep on each row when he sold.
Finally played it been on my shelf of shame for 8 months really goood
Love the netrunner tattoo. How do you feel about this gam two player? Most economic games tend to favour three or four players.
10:12 Oooooh so that's how the sheep multiply !
When he said let's get their attention back...I had just looked away, so good on you.
**raises hand** Me, I want to get low!
12:36 The sheep's Triforce !
Great review as always. But how do I sell this game to my friends?
Lol good question. I guess the trick is to lure them in and make it so that it's too late to back off when they realize what the game is about. :D
Tell them it's a game about sheep drowning
This game looks excellent!? Great review! I agree with Quinn. It looks better than most of these types of games.
I tell people I'm here to watch the review. But really I'm just creepin' on the bookshelf in back of the shot. Thinkin "Yeah, I read that. I read it real good."
This might be easier to get to the table than Agricola. Interesting!
Paul-bot programing is rigid well versed in board game analysing.
@10:35 ... ".... if you dont mind paying a worker compensation for the indignity of lying on top of his friend."
Interesting that they give a hard time to Trajan for having so many routes to get points that no one seems any better than the others, yet LOVE A Feast for Odin which feels to me aimless because it has so many things to do to score points.
Sheep don't need fences... but a shepherd and dog.
was so hoping we'd hear a repeat of the story of "oh, how does that happen [that putting two sheep together makes a third sheep]"
I don't mind the artwork, but I think I'll stick with Fields of Arle as I usually play games with only two players, and this one looks like it should have at least three to shine.
Nooo, Quinns, you uploaded your Christmas episode in August! You fool! (I'm assuming Quinns did the upload if he did the editing, sorry Paul/Matt/whoever if I'm wrong :o)
Those moments from 10:45 just make me smile
Quintin is worth a link? Just 1?
8:05 best moment of the video ihihih
