“Half of this is going to be redesigned by the Luftwaffe anyway.” 😂
What a quick witted comment
_"Should we be thinking of arrests?"_
Matt: "Fascist!"
😂👌🏻
InstaBlaster.
Watching this in 2020, I really miss Paul! These guys got me back into gaming.
where did he go?
@@pikewerfer Canada
@@fuzzlemacfuzz Tragic!
@@fuzzlemacfuzz I was looking for that answer for so long, I got into boardgames recently, and SU&SD is my favourite
This is the most entertaining video of watching others play a game I have seen. Typically I only enjoy watching X-wing matches, but this has been even more enjoyable. Other board game videos seem to drag on. Thank you!
I was yelling at my computer when Matt went to 36 instead of 21.
"Red on your elbow" "93? That's Insane!" "Twitches Snitches" Thumbs up for being in chat! What a fun time, interacting with them while they played.
You could legitimately set up a "Twitch Plays Whitehall Mystery" the same way they did with pokemon.
Thanks guys, your reviews have got me into board games and I went out and bought whitehall mystery because of this play through. It's a great game
That was so much fun to watch! I love the streams, although I can only watch the CZcams Videos, afterwards :(
Brilliant - these are wonderful. I really enjoy that this is a 3 player stream as it highlights games that work at these numbers.
I love these streams, and I also really enjoy that Chris is there too.
THE BRIDGE, MATT!!! NOT THE ALLEY!!!
"Did a car go through here?"
"What, the one with the murderer in it?"
This was really fun to watch. Great choice of a game. I also feel sorry for Matts phone!
This is so much fun. Utterly hilarious! Keep it up!
'Half of this is going to be redesigned by the luftwaffe anyway' 😂
Yayy!!! It's the ethereal voice and corporeal arm of Chris Bratt!
Glasses vs the hair and chat. Much better to watch from the beginning than trying to pop in midstream on Twitch while it's live.
Matt had the pencil in his mouth so much Quinns.
These are great to watch. The setup and editing works very well. There is however a static background noise that you might want to look at, for the future.
Well done all, well played, love these streams
Not sure anything happens with it, but as I'm watching I keep seeing Matt pick up more and more red tokens on his arm. And they just keep piling up.
Just watched this and immediately bought the game. Was looking for ages for a good, tense hidden movement game. Already got Captain Sonar but it only really shines with 6+ players. Fury of Dracula might be a bit harder for many to get into the theme and is a bit on the long side. Whitehall seems to hit that sweet spot I was looking for.
The second map was great. Good fun to watch!
Whitehall Mystery looks awesome! So similar on the face to Scotland Yard, but a couple of minor differences really take it to the next level. Thanks for this great "playview" of Whitehall Mystery!
We loved Scotland Yard. I wonder if the SUSD guys have played that. The tickets really vary pursuit speed options and maneuvering.
@@annec8127 such a classic! Last time I was the criminal my wife was checking my heart rate in fear that I might have an aneurism.
@@annec8127 In the Whitechapel review they say it's "ok"
Love the T-shirt, Matthew!
Sincerely,
Matthew
Got this game for the family this Christmas. Thanks for your review and gameplay. I wouldn't have purchased it otherwise. But we love it! So much enjoyment!
"you've got red on you" - shaun of the dead, lol
Play vids are always fun and welcome, am fine with the format of not explaining the game rules while playing, is better as you were doing by referring or linking to another video or article, that way can jump right into action. Also appreciate all of the fine camerawork that Matt and his murder buddy painstakingly had set up. Perhaps at some point you can have a game with a bear in it for Paul?
Matt completely threw it away; if he had moved to 112 instead of using his alley he would have definitely dropped the next body part and still had three specials! boating would have been really powerful if he had gone to 80... Fun game though; I definitely want to play it.
I think personally he kind of psyched himself out a bit by not fully realising the others had no idea where he was going. For example it's easy to think "it's too obvious to just move in a straight line towards my objective" but the others don't know where the objective is so it's not at all obvious.
Great game though and nice stream :)
Jon P Yeah, their stream game is top class!
Actually the game was his much earlier. At the second car use, he could actually have gone through 41 to 24 immediately. From there, he's two moves away from a boat trip to his final destination, and too far ahead of the cops for them to catch up (if you count the moves, they physically can't arrest him).
Gamer 7956 good point! There was also a sneaky move to 91 that he missed earlier that would have helped a lot. It is a good brain teaser game it seems!
Gamer 7956 Yeah, I didn't understand why he didn't sprint straight to 24 much earlier through that stretch of black squares. It made me think I had misunderstood the movement rules.
This was another excellent video! Super happy to set everything aside and spend an hour and a half watching you guys play this today =)
Only real disappointing bit isn't something that you guys can control. Its more a case of the length of the episode kind of spoiling the ending lol. When Matt has only put down one body part, and you look and see that its at 1 hour and 8 min out of 1 hour and 32 min, you kind of know then and there that he's not going to win xD
Alas, nothing to be done about that. Was an absolutely fantastic Let's Play all around, and I'm looking forward to more in coming weeks!
Therefore you should watch it on twitch haha^^. But I know what you mean. Would love to watch the stream rather than the video. Still so much fun and so intense to watch :D
Remember bobbies, always search the furthest spot from the murder first (101 then 100 then 99). When you find a clue you must stop, and it's possible he's been to multiple spots. Knowing he's been to 101 is more useful than 100.
You guys have to continue this sorta videos! Love from Chinese fan! !
Great watching the game in action. I bought Scotland Yard just before lockdown and played it 3 times with my girlfriend. It is 2-1 to me. I can't wait to be with her again and I'm gonna be buying either this one or Letters From Whitechapel or both! I hope you are all safe and well 😊👍
The best board game channel on youtube :)
So if I understand the rules correctly, Matt can't move through the detectives. At right around the 35:30 minute mark, he moves from 85 to 71, which is actually blocked by Quinns' Blue detective at the junction between 85 and 86 and is thus an illegal move.
If you are in a carriage you can move through detectives.
I was on the edge of my sofa the whole way through!
I missed the live stream due to being at the AGM of my board games club, may be next time.
I was shouting 'The tokens are on Matt's elbow!' futilely at the screen, much to my cats' bewilderment.
As soon as the video finished, I was off to BGG to check the name of the French version and if I can track down a copy locally to play with my kids (9 and 13, so theme not an issue as it's suitably abstracted.)
I do have one question - you played Treasure Island from Matagot earlier this year and were very excited about it in a podcast, how does it compare?
Being from Matagot, Treasure Island will be easier for me to find here but is it as exciting to play?
It’s my favorite pencil and i’m not even joking :p has to be my new favorite sentence on this channel :p
I would love to see you guys do another catacombs video. Quantum would be cool as well !
*Letters from Whitechapel* is both my wife and my favorite hidden movement game. However, this looks like it might play a bit quicker. I guess there's possible room for both :)
This was very funny to watch ! :D
And I'll gift this game to a friend thanks to you :)
I have that same exact pencil. It's a Uni Kuru Toga it uses a special mechanism and lead so you get consistent line thickness.
At 43:59, Matt accidentally gives inaccurate info. He had been to 71 en route to 55 with the carriage play (see 36:00 to trace his movement via Chris). While he didn't STOP at 71, he still visited it. Both movements need to be noted on the sheet, so the answer to Quinn's question at 43:59 should have been "yes." But it's a very understandable error given that he never stopped on 71 and thus likely forgot to mark it down while only noting 55 where he ended up. And I do not think there was any chance he got caught before reaching murder spot #2. Still, a good lesson for those who own the game (or buy it based on this video) to make sure Jack is reminded to note both spaces he occupies when playing his carriage card ability.
(And the same mistake again at 1:06:37 regarding spot 73...midpoint space of a carriage move again.) EDIT: But they caught it! Cool. Good job twitch chat from 5 years ago!
Great stream guys. I find a visor or a baseball cap really helps the hidden player in these games. Only chance I get to wear a hat inside 😁
Great stream, really enjoyed the extra stuff on Twitch, too. Unfortunately I succumbed to the appeal of the game and added yet another box to my collection. All hail the mighty enablers! Played it three times in the past week. I like the simplicity of it and the rising and falling tide of tension as the police get super close or further away. A couple well-timed bluffs can really help. Or totally blow up in your face. Either is great!
Cause of you Guys, we bought this and WOW it is REALLY fun. We like "Letters" even better! Thank You!
Yup.. letters have whole different tension
Y'alls matching elbow tattoos at 25:53 are so cute
Wait... They aren't tattoos? Oh. I feel dumb.
Hello Matt's phone. Why won't you ping?
I can’t watch these live - but this was fantastic. PTSD levels of stress watching Matt’s face and having flashbacks to being Mr X or Jack the Ripper. Fog of Love next, pleeeeeease.
First impression: Looks like scotland yard remake
Hey! I don't know if you guys read these, but you said you might in the first upload from twitch so I just want to throw out my suggestion. I'd love to see Decrypto! I think it's not too long and has some opportunities for some funny moments if you can slot a fourth player in.
It's funny because when Matt was on 85 there was no way he could be somewhere else due to only having moved a single space and used no cards to do that movement. He would have been caught there and then.
Great video guys.
Chris ! Miss you, you wonderful king of strategy. Play a game, show them up!
Matthews t-shirt activates my fight or flight response...
Doing an Archipelago stream would be pretty fun. Good stuff guys.
That seemed like fun.
Chat's always trying to get their way.
Shame on you Matt for throwing it in the end.. you SHOULD HAVE GONE DOWN!!! :-D Thanks guys, it was amazing gameplay, hope I'll get to see you live next time
Chris Bratt !!! That boy turns up in the most unexpected places since he left EG
Holy shit was that a Wu Tang reference at the beginning from Matt?
btw definitely not hair dryer if they are any parts flexiplastic microwave water until it is almost boiling drop the mini for a minute pull it out then hold it in the position you want it to stay in as it cools and that will be its new resting spot.
The 4 Body Parts: Leg, Arm, Head and Butt.
Is the stream always on thursday? I would like to watch it, but can't :(
"redesigned by the Luftwaffe" jfc
Do you guys play GMT games? Planning to review any one of their games!
May I ask you guys a tech question? How did you set up the camera above the board?
This. Was. Entertaining.
Matt Lees sir, please tell me where to get that t-shirt!
Totally not going to purchase this game but it was great to watch.
Hey SU&SD!
Will you be in Essen this year? Have you ever been? Which hall? Or which broom closet?
Why cut out your awesome Mattsplanation? Easy teach for all the viewers.
Do you plan on doing Concordia eventually? It seems like it would be an excellent choice, and one that you would enjoy as well!
Merchants and Marauders (with some parts of the expansion) would also be nice, even if a bit harder to record properly!
Big yes to Merchants and Marauders
Merchants would be amazing. There is a lack of great deceptions of the game.
Matt Lees drinks beer so tenderly.
Please can you do a video about how to start a games group / how to have a games night?
Ask people, find likeminded friends, ask a games shop...do you really need a whole video about how to make friends that have the same interests as you?
2:16 Ah, Heisen Lowe! He's an excellent German board-game designer.
This channel is costing me $$. I keep buying the games they play.
Please review Hunt for the Ring! It's the hidden movement game by Ares, the same people who did War of the Ring, and can even serve as a pre-game, setup alteration for WotR.
this is nice
41 to 3rd kill is the way for sure
Fog of Love, please!
Behind the camera is that Chris Pratt formerly of Eurogamer, i think i spied him in another video as well ?
Interested to see how this is not just Scotland Yard.
Whitehall gives more information to the hunters, and basically leans toward the searchers if both are new, but the special movement is more unique, and personally I enjoy the decisions more in this than Scotland Yard, both as a searcher and the hunted.
I'd love if you guys would do more Arkham horror the living card game
SO I've played this a few times now and while I enjoy it, I typically end up wishing I'd taken the time to play Letters from Whitechapel instead.
Matt, dude, you cheated. You moved through 71, and they did search it... And you said no.
43:57
Minus 2 pizza points.
What's the general consensus of this vs Letters From Whitechapel?
Having played both 2+ each, I like this more. It's one constant night, so it just feels like it goes faster.
The true length is still everyone debating. But again, this /feels/ quicker.
I've only played Whitechapel once but it seemed with that one, it was kind of dull looking for clues, and then really tense at the end when you found the killers home.
This one seems to keep the tension, and the feeling of your on their heels, better.
Watching this in 2023, I realized that I'd been correct to assume that Q was someone's evil twin.
Cris Bratt from eurogamer fame?! Be still, my throbbing ears!
When Quinns thinks of Smooth Criminal he think Alien Ant Farm. SMH
Just shows he has taste! ;)
And yes, I am old enough to remember the original version.
Are you ok, Annie?
Beat it! It doesn't matter who's wrong or right.
Next steam will there be a reference pair?
Both types of flares were indeed invented in the 70's. One of the 70's was the 1870's.
Great game. I still prefer Whitechapel, but Whitehall is also really good, it is simpler and shorter, but still tense and interesting the whole time.
I thought I heard an Enya reference in there.
Yall should play conquest of the empire
we need an actual "twitch plays whitehall mistery", one minute for people on chat to vote
also, investigators: WRITE YOUR NUMBERS DOWN, don't use just the yellow tokens, have a piece of paper with a list of all places you've investigated so you don't get lost
nice beers kids
Once he headed to 93, he should have committed to the lower right while they were all fumbling around up north, then boat and alley to sneak up north
If we sent you our board game would you review it?
play this again!!!
so its like scotland yard. but actually good?
