    Good job on this video.. I learned a thing or two..
    Two things I would have done to make it more precise.
    1: use some 6-8mm guide pins to precisely realign the jig if you should choose to run the machine without it.
    2: use an edge finder to locate the origin..

    Nice one James. I setup a similar thing a few weeks ago. I start most of my jobs from the centre origin, so have got multiple macros setup for each job. I’m making clocks of different diameters at the moment, (ie 12 & 6 inches) so have a Macro labelled for each one that takes the machine through the homing process & then to the workpiece centre. Soooo much easier & faster to get started 😊

    This is great too because if your first toolpath for example needs a V bit and you use a touch probe you can't accurately set X and Y on a touch probe with a V bit. If you start your job in the same spot on this is very handy.

    Great video James, I’m looking at buying one of these machines (Vasto)and have an odd question! The StepCraft M series is able to carve at bench level or on a floor if the machine is placed on a floor, is this possible with the FOXALIEN Vasto particularly.

    In the interest of saving time, why not setup your home co-ordinates to be in the bottom left corner? Somehow I got this setup by default on my XL 4030. Since all my jobs start in the bottom left corner, the machine does not have to travel as far after it has been homed.

  • @paulathomas4944
    @paulathomas4944 Před 2 lety +2

    I really don't understand why you machined that fixture then basically threw away the datum position it could have given you in favour of "eye-balling" your work piece origin. All you've done is introduce un-necessary errors. A better and easier way would have been, in your CAM software, define the origin of the fixture to coincide with the origin of the work piece. That would have automatically given you X0, Y0 without any messing about. Generate the Gcode for the fixture and the work to use the same WCS and you don't need to do anything other than home your machine!
