Federal doesn't use the red cap anymore. They stopped using that around 2014 or so. They use a big black plastic cap now with rubber seals. That really has nothing to do with pitch fluctuations in 2001s unless the slip rings are damaged in some way. With regular use, the brushes will scrape off any miscellaneous dirt and debris. That cap doesn't degrade like that unless it was exposed to the sun constantly.
Seeing that the 2001 series still uses the same collector ring setup as the Thunderbolt makes me consider piecing together a Thunderbolt from a 2001 rotator just for the hell of it
@@Vyclops Are you referring to the little rain cap at the bottom? Yeah, I can see that, but the collector ring tube looks just the Thunderbolt's, sans the four threaded bosses for the chopper cap.
That's what I thought. They still make thunderbolt choppers and motors in the model 2 sirens, and the 2001 rotators are practically the same as the thunderbolt. Just make the thunderbolts again.

Who ever owns it is the reason why it broke. Can’t become brittle like that if who ever has it wasn’t taking the back cover off 24/7
that appears to have become brittle to UV exposure... which would happen due to the covers being off of the back for extended periods of time.

the thunderbolt chopper tube is more rounded, they switched to this chopper tube design later in the production of the 2001 series

The sun f*cked it pretty badly, I would guess. Plastic crumbling/snapping apart like that is a tell-tale sign of UV and sun exposure damage.
