  • The advanced medium caliber 3P ammunition from BAE System Bofors is the proven, lethal multi-target ammunition on the market. Small and medium UAVs, or UASs are a recognized threat worldwide. 3P can be fired from both the Bofors 57 Mk3 and the Bofors 40 Mk4 Naval Gun systems. Each 3P intelligent projectile is programed individually and uses an advanced fuzing system with multiple fuze settings, making the 3P round optimized for any target, including drones or UAVs. The 3P ammunition detects the UAV and the pre-fragmented shell disperses thousands of tungsten pellets, effectively destroying it. The 3P ammunition gives you a cost effective solution optimized for any target.

I felt a little sorry for that last drone trying to fly when it was deadly wounded :(

A drone is easy. And a sea skimming high subsonic speed missile?

Is this the same that ex Saab Bofors 3P showed in Saab Bofors Dynamics from 1992?

Bit more refined over the years, but yes.

They need to make this ammunition for 30mm cannons, specifically in 30x113nn and 30x173mm. There are a lot more of those guns in use (and more being deployed) than the 57mm. The 40mm Bofors has been around for a long time. But I don't know how many are in modern use by militaries who'd be interested in the ammo. They'd probably sell a lot more of the 30mm

It's extremely hard to pack advanced ammunition into a 30mm package. 40mm has more than twice the space inside the round.

      There's 2 Bofors 40 mk4s on each Type 31 frigate.
Bofors 40s are used by almost every navy.
      America has hundreds
      UK has dozens
      NATO has thousands

@@petter5721 Not really the firing rate which would be key; it is the ability of the fire control system overall to process multiple targets and re-direct the turret very swiftly.

Actually it's very accurate and has a high rate of fire, if my ship was targeted by an incoming missile I would want this system rather than CIWS. Once CIWS shot it's target, you have to reload which takes quite a while. Not good if they shot two missiles at you. This is a great multi purpose gun good for anti-ship out to 10 miles and great for pirate vessels and can be used to frag infantry. Drones are a real threat from the Chinese and several other unfriendly nations. That drone was a joke. Military drones are much bigger and more capable of being a problem.
