    About Grumpy and this channel:
I’m known as Grumpy because of my grandson….Gramps turned into Grumps which turned into Grumpy. I’m not really Grumpy! At least most of the time I’m not. My actual name is Matt.
I decided to start a CZcams channel in November of 2023 and I posted my first video on Thanksgiving. My intent is to show everybody that anybody can do this…as the saying goes, if I can do this then ANYBODY can. I just enjoy it greatly but what I enjoy even more is seeing people happy and if my smoking/grilling/cooking can make you happy then I’ve done what I think I was put on this earth to do..make people’s lives at least a little better!
I try to make simple things or at least make the more complex things a little simpler. But I like to do it with a ton of flavor and make it fun as well. Please comment and add to the channel…there’s always room for kind comments and ideas at Grumpy’s table! I don’t profess to know everything about smoking/grilling/cooking…..I may know more about it than some of you do but I encourage those who have ideas/experiences/recipes to PLEASE speak up via the comment section below each video.
Please be sure to subscribe as it helps the channel incredibly. Subscribing will also help you because the more subscribers I get the more I can do with the channel. Thanks for watching these videos and as always, I’ll meet you at the smoker!

I tried to make this one a little shorter so it may seem a bit choppy! I can get long winded, I know! Thanks for watching this one and if you haven't subscribed, please consider it! Cook on!

Very informative video. For chicken, the vortex is King. It also goes nice to set around a Beer Can Chicken to help prevent burns. If you have the rotisserie ring, it lifts the lid and I use my SNS without water and run the kettle at about 325°.

Outstanding! Since I cook for a big household it takes a little longer to get all my chicken pieces on my SnS Ezy Spin stainless steel grate which I highly recommend due to the high heat over the Vortex. So while I arrange my chicken on the grate, to boost my coals and give my wood chunk a head start I put my chimney over the center of the grate with my wood chunk in the top. Once I have all my chicken on I remove the chimney and the wood chunk will flame the instant I put it on the grate over the Vortex. And surprisingly enough, as long as the wood chunk isn’t too large and all vents are 100% open it’ll continue to burn cleanly and not smolder. I call it the super hot n fast vortex method lol. Just gotta be careful about them flareups at the end if you don’t trim the fat. 🔥 🔥

Great idea! Love it! It was only me for this cook because my family, that’s full of teachers, are on spring break and enjoying the beach! So I enjoyed some vortex chicken! Thanks for the ideas David! And thanks for watching!

@@grumpysgreatoutdoors just noticed I should’ve suggested to put the chimney on upside down so you won’t burn yourself pulling your wood chunk out lol. Thanks for the reply!

Grumpy, I cook all of my chicken and potato’s the same way, I am going to try broccoli and cauliflower the same way, (battered). The nice thing is that you don’t have to turn the chicken over. I use goose fat on my chicken. Your doing a great job I love your videos.

G'day mate, that's a great idea putting the smoking wood over the Vortex. I'll do that next time as it saves so much room for charcoal in the Vortex.
Those Chicken thighs are huge. They look fantastic.
BTW how long is the optimum time to let your chicken rest before eating ?
    Thanks again for the video.

The Weber performer comes with an igniter. Curious why you choose to use the chimney instead. I’m sure you have a great reason! :-)

Great question….i used the chimney because not everybody has a performer and I wanted to show how to do it no matter what kind of kettle you have. Thanks for asking!
