This idea is amazing, i would have liked the trip itself more than the destination haha, but another idea is leaving like, 3/4 am, so the kids sleep a lot in the car

I love these ideas :-) I just wanted to point out, that everything that you use for the most part is recyclable. So all the bags that are paper, and plastic, all the packaging is recyclable, the milk jugs recyclable, most of what you were using was. So it might be a good idea for the future to have a separate trash bag for recyclables. Especially since that was nine paper bags for a trip, as well as all the packaging for each of the nine items for each kid, plus everything.
I really do love all the ideas you use though. I always thought the one with the trip at the top of the car, and you move the thing along with such a cute idea when I saw someone do it. I would have loved that as a kiddo. ♥️

i used to not stay awake during road trips, so i was worried abt driving long distances. but i learned abt the license plate game at 17 and its the only thing that keeps me awake on the road bc it takes more effort than seeing a color, not so much effort that it distracts me driving. i can stay awake on road trips, it annoys my mom tho bc i randomly shout out a state name and she refuses to play. her loss lol

We used to leave in the evening after my parents got off work to drive from GA to Texas. My parents switched out while the other one slept. Some of my best memories growing up were sitting up late at night with my dad talking to him while everyone else slept. This was back in the late 70’s and all throughout the 80’s. We even make a few trips to CA that way.

  • @poppycrew7013
    @poppycrew7013 Před rokem +22

Awwww..... I saw this and so many memories flooded my mind and heart from when my littles were actually little. My now adult "little" noticed I was doing the heavy breathing while trying to stop the tears thing and asked why I was crying. I showed her and she yelled out,
"omg I remember pushing our paper car driving across our car on vacations and the pulley to share toys back and forth and the binders you made each of us, oh and the scratchers for movies, music or surprises. Those were the best times!"
And then any chance of stopping the tears was clearly not happening and I cried like a baby.
It just goes by way too fast.
Its sweet to know that all those precious moments are still cherished memories for my kids even now that they are grown.
    Thanks for sharing this. 💗

I did 9 hour road trips all the time when I was little (cause my grandparents lived far) and I never got anything this nice. We had A&W, little TVs that strapped to head rests and LOTS of breaks. Play ground time was KEY to keeping us quiet.
Also I can’t decide if I’m jealous of you lunch or think it’s too fancy for a road trip.

This is such a great idea. As a granny now, I NEVER do long road trips (that's my children's fun job) but we do a lot of one tank trips about 3 hours away but having bags for them to do down and back would be great since they usually are in meltdown mode on way back. The pulley system is great because that's where my grands sit.

As a little kid, we would go on 6-18 hour long road trips fairly often. We would just talk or sing together, look out the window, or play games based on the cars, like license plate games or guessing which car we will pass next. One time, my mom tried to do some weird game/life hack thing where you had to find small items in a container of rice, but she never did that again. I think the surprise bags shown in the video are excessive. Obviously, to each their own when it comes to parenting. However, I think it is a lot of a paper bags that you are using. I suppose it doesn't count as "a waste" but it still feels wrong to me when you could just let the kids enjoy the time in their own way. The pulley is cool, and the destination thing across the front is useful, so you don't have to hear "Where are we?" every couple hours. All I have to say now is: I'm just glad they don't have iPads.

About to roadtrip around US(long time coming), currently will be solo. But this video reminded me of how smart my mother was with 6kids. She always had or gave us stuff to do. Sometimes games, reading, and many other things. But a favorite was I spy type games, making sure we had interacting time(practice for future) and leave alone time, when one of us, as kids do, don't want any attention, "STOP looking at me!!" Moments. HAHA. Great stuff ! May steal the pulley idea. Thanks for sharing & bringing me!!!🤗🤗🤙🤙🤙👏👏👏👏

My parents could not have afforded to give me and my siblings surprise bags, but we did a 12 hr road trip every summer to visit family. It wasn't always fun, but some of my best memories and bonding moments with my siblings happened on those trips. We played games together, watched movies, sang songs, and sometimes just laughed out faces off. Yes, there was of course some arguing but it didn't define the experience. It was the connections I made with my siblings that sticks with me now and makes those memories so fond.

There are games like bury the horses or looking for all the different license plates from different states and provinces countries. There are loads of things I can do that focuses on the world outside your vehicle. Lots of good learning can happen

We travel a heck of a lot in my family, and most of that is done by car as it’s expensive to get a family of 6 on a plane. We’ve driven down to the Grand Canyon and had to drive 13 hours in one day, it was tough and we got caught in a huge snowstorm in Jackpot, Nevada. I was lucky to have the back seat all to myself for most of the ride and had a good nap, but it was definitely hard being stuck in a car for 13 hours straight as a 10 y/o.

Does anybody else remember the activity desks that used to attach to the backs of car seats so kids could draw and do stuff? I don’t see them anymore, probably because they’re a huge hazard if in a crash lol

As I small child i vividly remember my mother buying us all iPods nanos, good headphones, telling us all to shut up, and if we were talking that we would get yelled at and we’re grounded. For context I lived 4 hours away from my dad and EVERY school vacation was spent with my dad… plus 6 other siblings in a car that only sat 6 people with seatbelts….

My best road trip hack when traveling with kids is to drive at night. Into the car an hour before bedtime so they have time to settle in and we are there or almost there by morning. Cuts out snacks, most bathroom breaks, car sickness, and being asked if we are there yet 1,000 times.

These look like really good ideas, I’m going to try some of these out with my son when he is a bit older

Y’all are so fancy. We have a snack bag in the middle and the one time my mom bought us this sudoku/crossword thing, we didn’t use it because we didn’t like it very much but she tried
