    I always hear people say that pigeons are pests and call them "rats of the air". But I think they are beautiful birds.

      Pigeon are beautiful and very trainable. No matter how far they fly away, they will always come back for their home as long as they are not killed, that’s how smart they are but their main problem is they shit too much..

      Short memories people...pigeons won medals in Britain for carrying messages in wartime. Theyre super intelligent, lovely birds. Its their flocking habit that causes them problems as I feed my wild birds and although I only regularly feed a few pigeons, if other people fail to feed them I still occasionally get mobbed. But I dont mind and theyre not bothering anyone as I feed them on the Breezeway roof outside my flat and it doesnt impact anyone else. The fact that I have a couple of crows visit daily keeps the numbers down as they chase them off although the crows never touch them in my area, they still make mock moves because theyre a pair of clowns that love undivided attention, cat treats and nuts.

      They were the first domesticated bird, they’re highly intelligent and self aware, extremely affectionate and emotionally intelligent. They’re also remarkably clean and actually resilient to disease; they spread diseases far less than other birds. Probably their only caveat is they’re pretty dusty, caused by their dander.

      I had a pigeon for a year that I raised after I rescued him. Sadly, I couldn’t keep him anymore because it wasn’t acceptable to have a “wild” pigeon as a tame, pet pigeon.

    What you have to do with pigeons is tell them how beautiful their wings are. Pigeons are very proud of their wings, and they will love you for complementing them. Pigeons are ace.

  • @MarkAndShelleyHike
    @MarkAndShelleyHike Před 11 lety +3

    It takes a lot of power to put a bird that size in the air. I used to raise baby pigeons, and the "flying lessons" were always fun. They'd flap and flap and flap, just TRYING to lift off. Sometimes I'd put my hand over their bodies, up where the wings meet in that "clap" and get smacked on both sides. This from a baby who wasn't strong enough yet to get airborne. They can feed themselves, to some extent, before they can fly--unusual for birds. -S

    Does anyone know what the ripple effect he is speaking of is? I have watched it many times and do not see what he is describing.

    • @InkGraffiti
      @InkGraffiti Před 10 lety

      The ripple effect is on the end of the upstroke, when the wings hit one another; watch the end of the primary feathers, and you see the wings hit one another so hard that they undulate a little bit. That's the ripple effect he's talking about.

    • @InkGraffiti
      @InkGraffiti Před 10 lety +1

      Oh wait, I got it wrong!! It's the fuzzy stuff on the feathers themselves. You can definitely see it on the zoom! You can see the air moving between the feathers and causing a rippling effect along the edge of them. Still the primary feathers though!
