Well done, young man. That's what I call pilot "in command".
It's all in the eyes. He doesn't let off his instruments. Bravo.
I'm guessing the VFR only pilots in the UK don't get to fly very much...
Oh we do! We're called microlight pilots, we do scud running😃
To expensive!!!
This is pure IFR porn - and I love it. I've experienced just enough IFR (the minimum for night rating back in the day) to appreciate the challenge and the workload involved - and you are mastering it so well you make it look easy.
It IS easy with a flight director, auto-pilot, two radios, a transponder, a spotter, a headset, a full panel, and ILS capability. When we did it back in the fifties and sixties, we had no autopilot, no headset, no ILS, one radio with VOR only -- or ADF --no sure take on the weather because there were no weather satellites. And beside an altimeter we had only a VSI, needle and ball, airspeed indicator and gyro horizon ...that was it! When we were full IFR we landed sweating! However, this young man's performance was admirable, and professional ...and accept for floating halfway down the runway -- I wouldn't want to be flying with him with an engine failure -- it was picture perfect all the way.
Nice video! Always a good feeling when you break the cloud on approach after a long instrument trip.
Excellent flying and perfect landing! Nice job on the ILS. Thank you for a lovely video.
Outstanding !! Nailed that landing.
I don't know if Ben Old Ben is a very xperienced pilot, but seeing this video, it's obvious he learnt his lesson well. Did everything by the book, even calling out what his intentions were ( despite the fact that his''co-pilot'') being or not a pilot. And on top everything was hand flying. Outstanding.
Congrats Ben. Nice job. Happy landings.
great job captain. rock solid needles. you scan is beautiful. i'd fly with you any day
Outstanding! And full on into those gauges. Great flying.
Fantastic video Ben - I'm looking forward to the new material!
Very nice nice landing in this very bad weather......
Once in weather like that, I nearly missed the airfield because they forgot to turn the runway lights....
once I asked for lights, I realized I was above the highway.... left to the airfield....
You did a GOOD JOB!
Good stuff ! Love the close-ups, love the details... LOVE IFr... Keep'em coming ! Good work :)
A nice farewell to an old friend. Thanks Ben.
very nice video. An instrument rating comes in handy in the UK, I can not ever remember seeing the sun when ever I am there.
Brilliant, nicely done
A pleasure to watch, well done!
Nice stable approach and solid smooth touchdown!!!
Reminds me when I was flying in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Did my IMC rating there. I would fly to Carlisle, Blackpool, Dundee.... Loved it.
Good job mate. Hand flown all the way 👍🏻
Some of my favorite flights in my career have been the ones like this one. Would have love to see a steady cam of the six pack instead of the wing. GPS was providing you with tracking data, great idea to incorporate it. Great video. Well done..
Great camera angles and editing. Very nice!
Great IMC hands on flying with good and clear radio comm's
Nice and smooth flight controls! Well done!
Totally in control here. Good job
Now this is flying IFR, poling it the whole way and no glass screens, great job.
+Galavanta thank you!
Can we get an update @Armando Silvier ? Did you pass!? WTF Man you can't leave us hanging like this.
Armando Silvier did u do it ?
@@aveekh he crashed (the flight sim)
Juan Fonseca 🤣
Liking that camera angle looking at instruments + front windscreen view. I might uhh... yeah, I might have to steal that.
Well done Ben. Nice video. Enjoyed watching this.
Great flying there. Enjoyed the IFR work as well.
+Dustin O. Martin thank you!
Fantastic job.
smoooooth landing, congrats!
Good and calm flying! I really liked the atc too :) he sounded very nice
Great video!
Outstanding...good video!
Nicely done!
16:47 "I told you not to play with the camera."
Hilarious!
Simply, NICE
Great landing!
Very nicely done.
I remember IFR in my 172 (G-BOIX) back in the day. Hard work to do it right. I'm VFR only these days with the occasional flirtation in marginal conditions to test my decision making skills. It was great to sit in the comfort of my office during this lockdown and relive the experience, thanks, James.
If you are flirting with bad conditions your decision making skills arent as good as you think.
@@mattk8810 What it's like to have such high opinions and a channel that is totally empty. Is your armchair comfortable? 😂🤣😂
Very nice control !!
Nice job ,.
I love IFR Flight.
Well done!!!
it was a very good job Buddy ....Bravo
great approach, you look very professional
Great video. I was surprised to see my home airport in a video. :)
Very well done.
Very good job!
Excellent
An excellent video. Hopefully the 'new pastures' result in more aviation videos; if not best of Success & Happiness in your career.
+Ken Lynch I'm hoping to film at the new place!
Good stuff & very informative. Makes a change to see a light aircraft flight in the UK.
Perfect landing good job
Awesome Pilot
Awesome vid!
+Tomcat's Trips thanks a lot
You show the potential for the "startle" effect very well, when you fly into cloud on the climb out.
Wow ive seen a lot of old school pilots, even experienced pilots are struggling with ILS, some even lost their lives and their loved ones when encountering minor ILS, and this young guy did it without a sweat.
@@jamescollier3 ohh yes thank you sir
Well done! That was fairly tricky at times
Nice Job. Again.
Impeccable IFR skills.
Great job mate hope you fly for the airlines one day if that's your desire
Very nice job
Great video
+The SuperCarClub Thank you!
It's clear you know your stuff. I'm super jealous.
Well done.
nice job mate
Cool video. Nice job commanding the aircraft. What approach speed were you flying on final? I own a 172R, typically fly it at 90 knots on IFR approach. Just curious.
It was hard to tell when the wheels actually met the runway. Very cool.
18:37 Beautiful bagpipes solo man!
That's some free jazz!
Cool video; thanks!
I love cessna
flying a commercial jet is much more easier than flying a Cessna 172 because all of its systems are manual and there are no such thing as an autoland for general aviation airplanes. but the complexity of the commercial planes is far greater than the general aviation aircraft
Beautiful ILS. Texan here, all I could think about was how annoyed the controllers over there would be with me, I only understood half of what was said by the controller, and less of what was said by your copilot. Probably not as bad through headphones or the headset, but the dialect is so different from what I'm used to. 😂
"Uhhh, I'm going to need you to annunciate more clearly, patnah, I only caught half of that. Alpha hotel Yankee."
"Alpha hotel Yankee, are you barking mad, I am annunciating, you're just not used to the Queen's propper English."
"Either way, this crop duster ain't gonna land 'propper' without me understanding my instructions and clearences. Please repeat directions, slowly if need be, I won't be offended. Alpha Hotel Yankee."
Exaggerated, but you get the idea 😂
Did you even touch down?😄 great video thanks for sharing
Another great video Ben! Does your iPad require cellular data to use SkyDemon or can it run on an internal GPS?
Anyone else notice the altimeter and VSI freeze and the airspeed indicator start going up at 15:47 before going back to normal? Static port blockage?
Great IFR circuit👍
Damn . Single engine IFR. Challenging. Hand flying, dialing in the next ATC frequency also a challenge. Well done.
Co-pilot along because he heard about a cut-rate barber in Blackpool.
You are bald aren’t you
Do you folks taxi on the left side over there?
Aircraft taxi straight down the centerline, like a boss.
And they also use "tyres"
Haha
When we double taxi we move over for each other on the right side in Na.
Yes, also, they use proper aviation fuel. Not some gaseous substance.
Hi,
What type of sucker did you use please, the one from the pilot side please ! :D
Thanks ! Awesome movie !
Ran over a rooster at 18:37
Ha!
Craziest stall warning ever
Hahahahahahaha
😂😂😂😂
cock a doodle doo
Nice landing guys...been there...did that...min.vis...1/4 mile... ;)
nytom4info no need to brag. I’ve hand flown a CAT IIIc haha
Nice video! Great to share stuff too. Presumably you're a IMC or IFR/R in new money? If so it may be worth undertaking the flight as IFR that way you can log IFR time not just IMC. May be handy when you come to getting your logbook together for interviews. If indeed you want to go commercial.
Best of luck in your flying career. You're doing very well by the looks of things.
Thx for the video
And after that remember that and then step on the ball. Nice vid
Nicely Done. Future SpeedBird or RAF pilot? Appreciated the instrument scan method description.
Any idea of the make/model of the light bar at the top of the panel. Haven’t seen that before.
Isn't that entire region in IMC most the year ?
Nother 'Plain Ol' Ben' watched from Fairbanks, Alaska, 6-14-21
They could fit wipers to cessna for UK market..
Anyone els excited for the new 2020 Flight Sim?
Very nicely done! curious though as to why you were assigned a 7000 transponder code for hard IMC and also basic service over traffic service as clearly you required radar for any traffic information.
Thanks!
Your video quality is excellent and you seem at home in the cockpit. Help me understand one thing though: How are you legally flying heads down and IMC even before the traffic service is granted while VFR? Is this an extension of the already confusing class E/G service system in the UK? I like my flight rules a bit more rigid than they appear here, some illumination would be helpful :)
+Eseem I had already spoken to the air traffic control and booked out for the flight. I think there's quite a bit of difference for operations in the UK compared to in America!
Agreed, but I'm Norwegian, and it's still a tad confusing ;) So you had a deal to fly VFR IMC in the local area, and no IFR plan filed? Was it considered a pop-up IFR plan by ATC?
How is it possible for you to go into IMC under VFR first then request IFR later?
+Lloyd Jingchao Feng it's different in the UK than America you don't need an IFR clearance to do what we did. Thanks for the comment!
Put a Z on it.
That's what I was thinking.
Rules must be very different in the UK? What if the controller said unable to provide an IFR clearance?
The Blackpool Tower is 125 this year.
Skill👍
I agree with most comments.
We all enjoyed basically a white out but your friend was obviously preferring to find earth visually and did not seem comfortable at all.
He may need a good Hug.
Great Video.
Aussie Spoon ..You could probably see the ground if you look straight down, I think he was just sight seeing.
I’d freak out
