  • The environment you ride in is just as important as the motorcycle you are on. Do you find yourself riding roads that are a direct copy of a surveyor's grid? With the Honda XR650L, discovering the hidden countryside is just a turn of the key away.

    Great review I must say. I have had plenty of makes and models over the years (40 bikes since 1985) but never had an XR650L. Well, that is going to change this year. The KLR650 is a good bike, but heavy with a soft suspension compared to the XR. And the liquid cooling just adds another off-road problem you don't want to put up with. You look like a young David Muir from ABC News. Anyway, a great review. Thanks!

    Thanks for the tip on changing out the front brake line to a steel braided unit. At first I was like what is this guy smoking but it made more sense later on. The front on my 1993 had expanded quite a bit this really tightened the brake up. For the rear I think it would make it to touchy or on/off ish IE easy to lock up.

    I would say to keep an eye on the engine. They are very robust but as in the nx 650 dominator when the engine overheat it can happen a detachment of the valve seat. Nothing irreparable but definitely could outweighs the cost of the bike itself!

    I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into these reviews. Good job on them. I hope that isn't why you put out so relatively few videos. If so, try to simplify things. All we want is you to ride the bikes and talk about them. The exact details of how you do so is less important, so do it the way that makes it easiest for you :)

    • @twing21able
      @twing21able Před 8 lety +3

      +krav maga sma Lowering link from Kouba. Real simply do it yourself for a hundred or so. I am 5'10" and needed it. Handling is no diffrnt and the side stand is a bit tall but simple to park it on high ground. Way better on trail as I can now put both feet down for the most part. I am sure you would be better off as the damn bike is too tall for regular peeps. As for rear tire I had a MEFO super explorer and got ten thousand miles before it was toast, 95% tar. Recommend the MEFO by far as Dunlop is spent at 3000miles. I have five Scullcandy Air raid speakers cable tied to bars, w ipod, very loud and I get a lot of looks as funny in a fun way. Enjoy your link.. :)

    Put the Sutton oil cooler on it and DONT use XR650L front sprockets, they are narrow and move on the countershaft eating it up. Use only CR450 front sprockets with a little grinding they fit tight and use all of the spline length. These 2 mods will make your XR last much longer and you wont have to change the oil as much because its not cooking it.

    "Simple yet sweet." It sure is! In 2015 I bought a 2008 for 4500. It only had 1100 miles on it then, and now at 12 years old only has 1800 and still looks brand new. Ive de-smogged, rejetted the carburetor with 158/55 "Dave's mods" prescription, and installed an fmf powercore 4 pipe (onto stock header) and O. M. Gee, what a YUGE difference! Just those 3 things alone will turn it from a Japenese sewing machine into the real 650 it was destined to be! And remember boys and girls...don't forget to change out that thin front sprocket to a Fritzco e.g., unless you just want to pay for a new primary drive spline shaft after 2000-5000 miles!

      @@jhenry7406 Willis, ABS has evolved a lot since it was introduced on motorcycles. I don't know which bike model and year you experienced the issue, they now have sensors that check the axis and adjust accordingly. That being said, I am like you; old school from the days when there was zero electronics on the bikes. The pilot had to make the difference through his experience and ability.

      Ehh, my KLR was uncorked, you know the common stuff. Yeah it was quick but my fuel range was cut in half, not worth it in my opinion. With the xr already having a small tank you would be lucky to get 50-60 miles out of it.

      I love my 87' TW200 with kickstart and electric. Of my two XR650Ls, one I have made very lightweight in comparison by replacing all lights with flush LED variants and giving it a tiny lithium ion battery. My headlight face has LEDs that I rigged as turn signals. Trailtech Vapor dash, plastic gas tank, passenger pegs removed. Surprisingly, aftermarket aluminium exhaust is no lighter than the stock one. Tubliss (brand) tire setup make it feel lighter because of less rotating mass. I've been wanting to obtain anti-slosh fuel foam but can't find any.
