UPDATE!: For those who have asked, the dryer CAN be vented to the driver-side wall. There is a label that shows where to drill. 👍🏼
Some of the main differences:
+ New exterior graphics with 2 tone skirt
+ LED flood light above fuel door (driver side)
+ LED floodlights (both sides) and rear awning light are backup assist lights, providing 270 degrees of lighting in reverse
+ New slide fascia is smooth white (vs black orange peel)
+ Deeper bed slide, providing more room between the bed and dresser
+ New lift-top dresser with hidden storage underneath
+ New front wardrobe with the washer and dryer connections in the center section
+ New bathroom with backsplash and huge storage
+ New shower features, including a folding bench
+ Flush floor kitchen slides and no carpet throughout

Grand Design should offer a "Chad & Tara Model" unit .... kind of like the Shelby Mustang of 5th wheels .... that includes all of the Chad & Tara upgrades/changes .... this would help new buyers in jumping ahead to practical & useful changes that will cost them more to do separately in the future.

If you need glasses for the control screen, you can add a Command hook if you have the lanyard. Or you can put velcro dots on the case to hold the glasses next to the screen. Just an idea.
I like the toe kick electric dustpan across from the main door on the side of the cabinet at the bottom of the steps. It makes the daily sweep-up nice and easy.

I understand the resistance to the 2nd bathroom door. However, for my handicapped wife, that would be a Godsend. We went back and forth between the 399 and the 397 just because of that. But that's just us. Good video.

Nice job ! It’s funny you mentioned that step light coming on with nothing triggered it ! We put tape over ours because it only comes on at night all the time and there’s no way to shut it off it’s a joke but we love our 21’ 381 it has all the same new upgrades other than the new door in the bathroom and we still have the north to south bed!

Love that closet. I am keeping my fingers crossed that is the new closet in the Solitude line. Our 390RK just came off the line a few days ago. I would be overjoyed to find that closet in ours when we pick it up. Great video, very informative.

Healthy competition between GD, Alliance and others. I see some upgrades that Alliance did with their 2021 debut of toy haulers now in this GD unit. But I also see things like the front closet in the GD that is better than Alliance. Healthy competition makes it better for us as consumers! Nice review, including footage of your 2018 unit to show the differences.

Nice unit... I also love that kitchen range.. I also love the amount of windows in the main cabin - much better light.. My only slight beef (and this is with most campers) is that they always seem to have a skylight (or two)... We have two in ours and I have already had to fix one that leaked - besides, in summer they let in too much heat and in cold climates they let OUT too much heat.. Last, Tara, my wife would LOVE that flip-top dresser in the bedroom.. I'll have to show that to her later... Glad you got down there to see the RVs.. Take care you two!

LOL....at 18:05 mark, Chad looks at himself in camera's display (does a quick "eye roll") and hates the fact the auto focus is jumping around. GREAT review...you two are the best!!! :)

It's easy to tone down that beeping noise on the fireplace. It's a 50¢ piece if you want to replace it. But instead of replacing it, simply access the control board and you will see a small round speaker with a silver center. Either cover it up or stick a pin in it. Yes, sticking a pin in it will ruin it but like I said, it can be replaced for about 50¢. It's not even actually ruined if you stick a pin in it. It's just quieter. You will still be able to hear it just fine. It was the first mod (of many) that I did on my Reflection.

The deeper bed slide is a no go for us. We have a 2017 337RLS{36'} GD and the bed slide is to deep for several reasons. Our 2005 Montana {32'} was much easier to use. I am with you about the two doors in the bathroom.
We have a 337RLS too and not sure how we would feel about a deeper bed slide.
I'm with you guys on the bathroom door. It's just me and the DW. So 1 door to the bathroom is plenty. Love the stove and cook top.

The only options the original owner skipped was oven, leather seats and washer/dryer combo. I’ve added a washer and dryer and don’t care about leather.
Great video bought our 5th wheel two years ago brand new. Covid slowed things down been out 5 times every time had major issues lippert leveling system failed ,refrigeration failed ,AC failed ,emergency brakes locked up on trailer causing truck damage while backing up, new truck exhaust issues slides not working ,inverter failure . I can fix anything just tired of fixing or taking to dealer to fix. I really like your videos a lot good info every time. We’re done selling everything except the 2020 F350 . Nice arrangement of the wardrobe, especially for folks living without washer/dryer. Unfortunately loosing drawers when adding washer/dryer, maybe a 2in1 combo saves some of the upper drawers 🤔

First of all you got to love the Quality of Grand Design. I agree with you, as I don't like the 2nd door, nor do I like the changes up front. Loved the previous large closet with storage behind hanging clothing. Our 303 Reflection with the bedroom door is similar to the current model and that bedroom door takes away our bathroom noise privacy. I do like they did away with the ledge in the main area and the sink change. Thanks for the tour

Nice review, wife and I have been following for a few years now. Even bought my Indian Challenger after watching your test ride. We went to the 2021 Hershey RV show and noticed basement storage was seriously lacking in the new models except the 376THS. Really wanted your take on that as full time is your thing.
The basement looked to be about the same. The rear wall did have more of an angle but I'm sure things can be moved around a bit.

Wife and I have considered a change from our 392MBL 5th wheel to a toy hauler. We've seen the living space improve over the years for the toyhaulers, and with the right garage could possibly carry around an eSmart car for a 2nd vehicle and not rely so much on the tow truck as a driver when not towing.

The first thing Tara, don't worry about putting on glasses, I think glasses are sexy. As for the other stuff it looks like they took some of your suggestions. I'm not crazy about the interior decor as far as painted cabinets go, I like natural varnished wood. But all in all it looks like a very livable rig. Sorry I didn't run into you guys at the show but it's pretty big. Keep the good stuff coming.
We love everything about the new model. The bathroom door is one of the biggest as we almost considered the 399 last year just to get it. Not anymore. We ordered a 397THS-R and are excited for it to be here in May!

That pocket door is kinda goofy. I’d say drop the door and insulate that wall help with the noise.

Really nice. Love the even floor by the slides and no carpet. They need to round those corners on the island and counter. Those will hurt!
Nice unit for full timers. They should do no carpet in all their RV's unless buyer might want it. I rather have counter space both sides of the stove. We have a nice big residential fridge and that same stove.and what a game changer, although we will see how it goes when we boon dock at some point. We have a 2019 Open Range fifth wheel with similar second pocket to the bathroom. My first reaction was what a waste of space. However, I was completely wrong! We have been full time in the trailer for two winters now. That second door to the bathroom from the bedroom is fantastic.

Chad and Tara what I will say about the floor plan you have and the updated plan is if someone gets a combo washer and dryer unit that does both wash and dry it gives more storage vs a stacked washer and dryer it reduces 150 to 163 pounds off the tongue weight that can be better for the frame of the rv
We have a 2022 397TH-R (think it was the last group they took down the line). Which they would have ran of the smaller slides and had to upgrade. Those are really the only updates we love about the new 2022’s.

We have a 2016 397 TH also, and I agree with you on the extra bath room door I do not like that type set up in any trailer.
All i can say about the additional door in the bathroom is that when people show up and you are showering, now you can actually go straight to the bedroom and not be calling someone to bring you your clothes.
Might not be pleasing to the eye, but seems practical.
Overall i really liked the RV, thanks for showing to us!!!
We don't have an issue with the "hallway" door. We just don't need the door to the bedroom also.
That little stair light is a royal PITA. It has a mind of it's own and while it is supposed to be a motion activated light, it's not. They come on randomly, I've even put tape over the entire light assembly and it still comes on!

Hi. This was a great video. I loved all of it! Even appreciated the HUD rule update. I am a bit miffed that at the price of this RV (not cheap), the door is "thin shade ready" not thin shade installed. What is up with that? Same thing with my Freedom Express. I guess it is the little things...

With the flush floor In the Kitchen they should have bigger holding tanks, well maybe next year they’ll put the side patio back on. That’s a game changer for us
They still make the 399th, which is the one that has the side patio 👍😊

Any idea where the vent for the dryer goes out of the rig? I'm not sure about the toilet positioning, but I love the change in the shower itself. Our 2020 has the USB ports next tot he bed which is nice.

I agree with Tara about the bathroom door. I also don't care for the redesigned closet. There doesn't appear to be as much hanging space.
