  • Evolve's CSL style carbon airbox is a dream modification for most S54 owners. It provides a depth of sound, power increase, and beauty that are extraordinary. However, as you surely know, the price is as well. This begs the question; can it possibly be worth the money?

      Hey Evolve. Ye seriously need to make this a lot more affordable. There is no way in hell it costs any more than £500 to produce now ye have the moulds made and your production streamlined for all your products. I think at £1,000 to £1,500 ye would sell one to every E46 M3 owner in the world. Just a thought because how many would pay £3,000 for it.

    Hey folks! Hope you enjoy this video. Just a note, there are sections in the car where I wasn't 100% pleased with the audio. The (loud) base note of the exhaust at times and wind really threw the mic's peak reduction for a loop. It isn't terrible, but also not up to my standard.
    Thanks.

      Thank you! I’m glad you liked it. My car is definitely on the wilder side volume and sound wise haha. RPI GT axle back with Status Gruppe catless headers. Drones pretty badly down low (trying a J pipe soon) but the unbelievable, frantic tone up top is worth it 100%. Isn’t even close to my daily so I don’t mind that much.

      BuzzytheBlue awesome! Yeah seems alot like my E46’s setup, where it sounds terrible down low w alot of rasp and drone, but absolutely screams up top. Im actually considering going back to the oem section 1 and 2 since it seemed more high pitched with them. I have manzo straight pipe section 1 and a sgt xpipe section 2, along with headers and mxp rear section.

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  Před 4 lety +4

      As it sits currently I can’t even really recommend my setup haha. Very very loud. The RPI has quite a bit of drone on its own, but following the headers it’s almost comically intrusive at low RPM. I’m looking at adding a J pipe to the mufflers to reduce it. If I was doing it over again, I’d probably go for a tamer muffler setup if doing headers.

    Hello there! quick question... did you notice en change on brake pedal feel, or impact on your cruise control? I have a Z4MC I bought a couple of days ago and the CC does not work, and I feel the pedal too soft, mind you, I also have a Mustang 5.0 with performance pack with an extremely nice pedal feel (6-pot brembo calipers), so that may be part of my appreciation.

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  Před 4 lety +1

      The tune/airbox didn’t change the CC or brake feel at all, no. I’ve never found the pedal feel on my M to be soft at all, always bites hard right at the top of the pedal. May be worthwhile to change the fluid/check the rotor and pad health.

    • @BuzzytheBlue

      The filter is housed between the two sections on the Evolve box, to replace the filter you just disconnect the “intake section” from the plenum, very easy. Evolve sells new filters for the box.

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  Před 4 lety +1

      Alpha N works fine but MAP is how BMW set them up in the CSL. MAP will yield slightly improved drivability. Not sure whether it’s a worthwhile difference at this point though. My car is Alpha N and is just as intuitive to drive as stock.

  • @AC-wl7ve

    i notice a bit of jerkiness sometimes at low speeds especially if i try to get on it hard from low speeds. sometimes power is just non existent between 2-3k as well, but its kind of odd, it doesnt do it all the time. i feel like most of the issues are avoidable if you just ease into the throttle and try to be smooth with it, but it can be a bit annoying. i dunno if maybe it could be fixed with dyno tuning or maybe map conversion is the route to go eventually.

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I think I’m going to end up going the dyno tune route this coming season. I don’t have any jerkiness or drivability issues but if I go too deep in the throttle below 3k (or don’t roll into it as you said) it will almost bog, hard to say what the cause is but I’m hoping some custom tuning will sort it out. Odd because otherwise it rips.

    they need to lower the cost- theres no way it cost that much to manufacturer. Plus, for the amount of gains , that $3000 would be better put towards a supercharger or turbo rather than a intake, mainly for the sound

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  Před 4 lety +1

      I considered a supercharger but just wasn’t very interested to be honest. Even supercharged, a Z4M or M3 isn’t going to be a world beater in a straight line by modern standards. So, I went with the airbox to keep it NA and emulate the CSL experience. The price is huge but with so few manufacturers and such a niche market, it’s to be expected. Particularly with such a complex design when compared to things like diffusers or other cosmetic carbon components.

    • @laurieagnew6706
      @laurieagnew6706 Před 4 lety

      Composites are very labour intensive and require big capital investment to get right. By the time you add r&d, design, dyno/real world testing, material costs, tooling, moulds, autoclave and the skilled labour to build them right and then MAYBE you can make some money on top $3500 isn’t too ridiculous imo

  • @DarkstarDarth
    @DarkstarDarth Před 2 lety

    Adding any air box will change the sound but the Z4’s digital engine management systems along with the MAF control the airflow to the engine thus not realistically improving performance. Evolve is basically a noise box.

    • @BuzzytheBlue
      @BuzzytheBlue  Před 2 lety +2

      That would likely be true if you didn’t re-tune the engine, which you do with any of these airboxes. There is a measurable gain, that’s been proven. But regardless, I mainly bought it for the noise haha.
