Considering the fact that it seems that he has been a porn actor for a while now, not only he probably will be utterly ignored at most job opportunities in other areas, he'll have a safe position within the porn industry only later on.
Being a Japanese herself (and a quite well educated one at that) I am sure she was quite aware that his job niche won't change. But she choose that, and when reality came (because thinking about something is different than living it) she decided to toughen herself and try to change her mindset about it. It's different to think "Ah it would be nice to think/react differently about something" and actually changing your mind and your emotional reactions to it. Even if logic dictates something in your head, your brain is used to react emotionally in a certain way even if you tell yourself you shouldn't be sad/happy about something that doesn't make sense to you logically/morally, but you are.
