    Been following you for about a year now. You are my favorite on CZcams. My question is, what is your determining factor on any given day...do I drift or do I drag? Do you try both each trip out and let the fish decide for you?

    • @KayakCatfish
      @KayakCatfish  Před 5 lety +3

      Thanks Jim! I appreciate you watching. To answer your question, the biggest factor for me is current. If I don’t have any current, I will generally drag baits or troll with baits suspended directly under the kayak. If I do have current, I will drift with suspended baits.

    Hollow pencil lead crimped on to your dropper with pliers. Put your line into the lead and pinch it in a couple places. Comes off if you get snagged and a long enough piece should drag nicely.

      Kayak Catfish have any tips for us bank fisherman in hopes of reducing the snags we get? Maybe smaller version of those?

    • @KayakCatfish
      @KayakCatfish  Před 5 lety +1

      I never do any catfishing from the bank so I’m not sure what you can do to prevent snags in that situation. You might want to check out Catfish Dave’s channel. He is a legend in my area and fishes exclusively from the bank. I am sure he may have some advice for you.

    • @KayakCatfish
      @KayakCatfish  Před 3 lety +1

      I don’t really know of anything that pulls through brush piles very well. It’s usually not your sinker that will get hung in the brush. It’s your hook that will dig into a limb.

    I am making one now,question is it good in fast current while drifting

    • @KayakCatfish
      @KayakCatfish  Před 5 lety

      I only drag when there is no current or very light current 0.5mph or less. If you just use them as a normal sinker when drifting with the current, the bait will get pushed out in front of the sinker and they won’t work as effectively.

    What is the difference between dragging and being suspended just off the bottom? Why would one be more effective than the other?

    • @KayakCatfish
      @KayakCatfish  Před 4 lety

      In both situations, the bait is raised off the bottom. Dragging is better for situations where you have a lot of change in depth. If suspend fishing in that situation, you have to constantly raise or lower your baits depending on the current depth. Both applications have their time and place.

    Good videos, but Larry Muse gave his instructions for free.. you tweaked it and now are selling books off of his creation.. hopefully you will at least send him a percentage of your sales... great video

    • @KayakCatfish
      @KayakCatfish  Před 5 lety +2

      So should Steve Douglas give a percentage of his sales to Driftmaster because he makes metal rod holders? Should TN River Monsters give a percentage of sales to Heddon because he took the hooks off of a Zara spook and called it a float? Larry makes great sinkers and I applaud him for giving out the instructions for free. I chose to purchase his sinkers when they were available to support him and I also made videos promoting him and his sinkers. My sinkers, however, are made from a different material, do not require trapped air for them to work, and are a different weight. They are a different product.

    • @chriswilliams3876
      @chriswilliams3876 Před 5 lety

      You're correct.. you can only blame Larry Muse for sharing.. hopefully there isnt a video on how to make your sinker after your book is purchased. I'm use to you sharing information for free.. first time a book purchase was required. I was just surprised

    • @KayakCatfish
      @KayakCatfish  Před 5 lety +3

      I have no doubt people will be making and selling my sinkers. That’s the world we live in. I do give a lot of information for free on my channel and website. However, I incurred a lot of expense last year trying and failing on various materials to get a sinker I was 100% happy with and if I can recoup some of that cost while simultaneously helping people out who can benefit from the sinkers then I consider it a win-win for everybody. The fact is the tubing needed for my sinkers is cheaper than plastic tubing so the money they save on materials pays for the cost of the instructions. Some people will understand my views and some won’t. Nobody is forcing them to watch my videos or buy my book. It is their choice either way.
