Pre drill with a drill bit, prior to drilling screws. That's the best way and will not risk splitting the wood or breaking screws.
Great idea! I will remember this when I'm doing mine. 🤣
Also, grab a counter bit with drill bit attached. And use cabinet screws with star end. They work great. I love this channel! Reality of home ownership! And I laugh at Jeffrey's jokes EVERYtime!!
Countersink bit.. oops!
Yup, its true, i always pre drill a hole slightly smaller than screw so nothing splits
That appears to be the tool only, you need charger n battery too
No no Jeffrey, you get Pub subs at the deli, freshly made. Not a premade sandwich. Big difference. And buy frozen or fresh veggies, so much better & better for you.
Sorry you're having so many difficulties with the house, our paths get bumpy sometimes. It will get better. See you tonight.
The Publix subs you want are the made to order ones from the deli dept. Their Italian on multi grain is amazing!
So true 👍
For an authentic Pub Sub experience, go to the deli and they will make one for you fresh. So many options to try. You can even order online and pick it up. The Meatball, Boars Head Roast Beef, and BH Italian...yum! P.S. Love following you on your journey. You are awesome! From, a fellow Floridian.
I’m always looking for these vlogs. Jefferey is a hoot. And Stella is such a good girl…
You are not a quitter! I would have been cussing and throwing things. Good job. Love that sweet fur baby, Stella.
Only do the fresh made sandwiches at Publix
Absolutely agree 👍
You just taught all of us a great lesson by staying calm and getting it done. Proud of you.
you live in the south now Jeffrey, time to give up the Miracle Whip and switch to Duke's, you will be glad you did!
Hi Jeffrey,
It’s me again. Drilling. You need to pull the bit in and out while drilling- not totally out-just back and forth. This will empty the sawdust from the grooves in the bit. The drill should be rotating in a clockwise direction. “Reverse”is used to remove screws. AND predrilling should be done to the full length of the screw.
When you choose a bit smaller than the screw that is fine IF the screw is grooved to the head. When it is solid at the top (like yours) it will get stuck and break.
I wanted to help but I live in Massachusetts.
Janice
You have way more patience and persistence than I do Jeffrey!
Yes, drill a pilot hole just a bit smaller than screw first, then screw should go in easily.
Jeffrey, I want to tell you how much I enjoyed your exciting Rome trip. You were smiling all of the time. I was so happy for you. Now you are making a new home and that is another adventure. My husband and I built our home board by board and it was magical to even see the end result. Thirty years on there are quite a few improvements to do so I become discouraged. So just take it one project at a time. You are doing great.
If you are going to put the screws there the screw hole needs to be larger in the first piece of wood to the point you can slide the screw through the hole easily with plenty of room (clearance hole) with the pilot hole being in the second piece of wood only. (You want that hole tight) I just put the screws in the side panels where you have the clamp. Put them where you won’t see them or run into them. The cabinets are mostly held in place through the back side through the stud in the wall. The side screws are just stabilizer screws that basically keep them together. They are not the ones doing the most work.
I was wondering if he was putting the screw in the right place.
I tried letting Jeffrey know how to properly install base cabinets yesterday in a comment.Every time he goes to work on the base cabinets I’m like screaming at my phone no no that’s too high. And when he went shopping for the right screws I was telling him what to buy lol.He needs to first figure out if he’s running his new floor under the base cabinets or not.If he’s not he’s got to measure up 34 1/2 inches on his back wall and cut a piece of wood to secure to the floor against the wall. That lifts the base cabinets up to where the new floor level will be.Ontop of making sure everything is the right height and level. You have to secure the base cabinets to the back wall shim if needed. Then you secure the cabinets together in the face frame. He’s pre-drilling and trying to put the screw in way to high up in the face frame. The correct screws to use are #8-2 1/4 inch long trim head screw with a fine thread suited for hardwood. I also mentioned that he could Google-
How to install base kitchen cabinets.Lowes has a great short video so he could learn the proper steps.I wish him luck and don’t want to see him struggle to install these base cabinets anymore.Wish I lived in Florida I’d help him.
@@erinmaxwell8133 No he’s not putting the screw in the right place. He’s too high up.
@@nelliehagen5267 I kept telling him it wasn't in the right place 🤣
That's what I get for watching all of those homemakeover shows
@@erinmaxwell8133 Well now you keep watching those shows lol.Because you my friend were right 😆 lol
The sky is so much bluer in Florida🌴
You very welcome, Jeffrey. I am so happy that you liked it. Stella has a gift coming from the UK. It should be there in a couple weeks.
Hugs,
Patty Gustafson
P.S. I have been a fan for a long time.
That flamingo dish is beautiful!
The flamingo oyster shell is just beautiful. Did you paint it?
Jeffry you do make me smile ,your food situation, that your not a cow ,milk etc lv Ann uk 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️❤️
Cool video, Jeffrey! With your cabinets, you first had to drill a 'pilot' hole: a hole of lesser dimension than the screws that you're gonna end up with. The pressure put on any screw going into the wood, without the pilot holes, will snap off.
Especially with hardwood!
Omg I’ve watched the last episode and this one and I was dying laughing with the cabinet fiasco. A short with all of these fails would be the funniest thing ever. You have more patience than I 😂
Also when you do the fresh subs you can ask him to pull the bread out in the middle. Plus they have different kind of breads
So true 👍
Like Shawn said, you have to drill a starter hole first, a little smaller than the screw size.
You screwing the new screws was too funny. You are amazing. I am all thumbs with renovations. You have a broken garage door, cabinets, tv stand etc etc I learned to hire a professional. Cheaper in the long run. See if there is a handy man for hire in your community . Usually have a sign up in the club house.
After pre drilling hole run your screw in a bar of soap. It will help screw move freely when screwing it in. Good luck.
You need to try one of the Pub Subs that you order at the counter! 🤤🤤
So true 👍
Jeffrey. You Need to ask or just pre drill! On the same wall with those packets are stainless steel screws .
Behind you in same aisle are cabinet screws
Holy smokes! The cabinet drama had me at the edge of my chair. There is NO WAY I'm going to be able to screw my 2 cabinets together. I'd have been crying and kicking by now. Good to see you are successful. My 2 cents over Publix subs... those "To Go" ones are awful. Go when you have time to wait in line and get the Boars Head turkey, so good.
Holy crap! I would've been calling my Dad by the 3rd try, lol Glad you finally got those screwy screws to work.
Stella loves her yard!
Stella's such a sweetheart.
Ordering a Pub sub from the deli counter vs the Refrigerated case is soooo much better
Yes, the only way to do it.
You are such a good and loving man. !!! Give yourself a break......
I was going to say you need some clamps to hold the cabinets together while you screw them together. Then you pick some up
OMG Jeffery! Predrill all the way of your bit. Brass in no good it's too soft. Use 2- 2 1/4" zinc with the threads all the way to the top- no flat part with no threads.
Oh Lordy, I am sorry for laughing.
But I love your easy peasy attitude about the whole screw stuff... 😊
Re: garage door. I used to work as a nanny for a family and every day between 12: 30-2, if we had to close the garage door it would have to be at the wall button and we’d have to walk out the front door. Apparently at certain times of the day the sun would hit where the sensor was and it wouldn’t work. Even if we tried to block from the sun. So if it only happens for you at certain times of the day and the sun is shining on that side of your house at the time.. that could be the problem.
I use Allen Green Beans and drain them, rinse them, then add chicken stock to heat them. Tastes more like fresh green beans. I had an issue with screws and actually took a hammer and hit the screw until it dented the wood and then it screwed in easily. I got lucky and did not split the wood. I do not have the patience you do…Bam and done! Hmm…doesn’t that screw have too much blank screw (technical term 😂) that will stick out and make the draw unable to close.
I was so upset, I kept telling my husband to go down there to help you with the cabinets. You are so patient, I hope you get it all worked out.
Your persistence paid off! So glad you were able to get those cabinets together! I sure hope you can get that garage door fixed. That must be very frustrating!
I really enjoy your daily blogs !
If it were me, after the first screw broke, I would have gone back to the store and asked someone, from that department, for some help. I would tell them what needs to be done, tell them what you did and what happened. Brass is a very soft metal, btw. I'm glad you got it figured out.
You have to predrill to the other cabinet too. Meaning go all the way through. Try a impact drill. They have lots more torque than a regular drill.
Bless your heart! Those cabinets are a pain in the neck!
Lololol ocean in Ocala...I have a house with a busy road... definitely going to start hearing the ocean.
Definitely get a fresh sub from the deli! You won’t get the full PubSub experience otherwise! And try some of their fresh fried chicken with deli baked beans and potato salad with Hawaiian rolls to top it all off! I love Publix!! Yummy! ❤🎉 love your channel. Best of luck in Florida!
I love the flamingo trinket! And so happy you were able to get the cabinets tied together. Persistence pays off! 😊
The flamingo trinket shell is gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing! 💖
What a beautiful gift from Patty!! You are loved Jeffrey!!
Publix makes really good sandwhiches. See if you can find a Rita's to get a dessert or frozen Slushes .
A new color green , dead grean bean in your new Crayola boxes comming soon. Lol omg that was funny
Man! That's some hard wood you're working with!!
You need to drill a pilot hole first, then the screw will go in easily. Just use a drill bit slightly smaller then the screw.
My first and only time in Florida, we were in St Augustine at a Publix market. They are well stocked!
I am so sorry Jeffrey that you had me laughing with your cabinet troubles. I am glad that it finally worked out and you kept going until you succeeded. Not giving up and successfully accomplishing what you need to get done always feels good it the end. Make sure you drill all the way the length of the screw because it looks like you have oak cabinets and that is a very hard wood. Cheers to your new kitchen cabinets!
That is really impressive. Such a young, single person to become a homeowner? Good for you!!
You may want to try a carbide drill bit. Carbide can go through concrete
Well yes than. You must sing Sea Of Love.
Jeffery….next time at Publix get the sandwich made to order at the deli counter……to me they are fresher and way better….plus like at Subway you can add whatever veggies and dressing you want. Sooooo much yummier!
Love my Ryobi. Even my lawn mower is Ryobi.
We always pre-drill a hole with a drill bit before drilling/driving the screw in. Your new home is beautiful!
Jeffery I Love you! You Crack me up. Thanks for bringing us along!
Try Harbor Freight. They have super cheap tools there. Many locations in your area, Ocala FL. We buy there all the time here in NJ. Cool videos!
FYI Jeffery, a pre-made Sub from the cooler does not qualify as an authentic Pub Sub. I would also highly recommend you try Publix fried Chicken it’s better than KFC or Popeyes
Absolutely true 👍
I love love these videos about your house and Stella . Thank you for sharing your life.
Hey Jeffrey! A thought...(just on the top of the one "problem cabinet") you could have put some wood glue at the top of the cabinet that you were out of space on from previous attempts, clamped it, wiped off the excess and let it dry....and a garage door company can replace just the bottom section of your garage door that is damaged for a cost savings if necessary and if there happens to be a shade of difference from the old panels to the new bottom panel, you could paint the garage door. Time saver would be just to replace all the garage door panels with still using your existing guide rails and springs. Love the clam shell decoupaged flamingo! You have such kind and generous viewers!~
Looking good Jeffrey!
Omg Jeffrey…. Those friggen cabinets
Hey Jeffrey I feel your frustration with the cabinets & garage door. That little flamingo 🦩dish is very pretty 🤩 “ Too much chewing I feel like a cow 🐮 “ 😂🤣
Patty, that oyster shell is absolutely gorgeous 😍
Are those oak cabinets? If they are, it’s probably not the screws but the wood. Get a small drill bit to make a pilot hole where you need the screw, then screw in the wood screws.
That cheeseburger looked delish!
I work in house construction and cabinets are commonly glued together now as it is much stronger than screws or nails. I usually use wood glue. There is a point where you actually need to hire a handy person to do it for you. Much less stress for you!
Just keep being you Jeffery it's hard but you will see it all through you a survivor
The Publix salads look amazing for the price!!! I prefer the frozen green beans as they seem fresher with a "snap" to them. I agree with making a pilot hole first with the drill THEN screw it in. That might be better!
You are so patient and so good at problem solving.
Rubbing bar soap or graphite on the screw can help for future reference. There must be something, (a metal bar?) in the upright to keep it from warping?
Sorry I missed your sale last night. I don’t think I’m getting notified when you start😢 I will try harder next Friday🥰
Jeffrey, I am so happy your cabinet project is completed. I believe it was one of those times we say one day I'll look back and laugh. Confession, this last cabinet segment I was laughing.
Jeffrey, did you ask what type of screws you needed when purchasing the cabinets??? That would have helped!!! But you got it done!! YEAY!!!😳🙄👍🤣🤣🤣
Your cabinets are a hard wood. You need to pre drill before you screw. They make a special cabinet drill bit you should be able to get at Lowes or HD. They make special drill bits for harder woods and steel. Please ask at the hardware store.
I think it’s timer I call in the professionals. Garage door. Kitchen cabinets.
Use a shorter screw ( 1 inch ) and use both hands to hold your drill steady.
When you go into the store. Ask one of the sales clerks what's best for your project. In this case, drill and screws. Save alot of time and hassle. See if you can bang the base of you shed door in with a large hammer.
Suggest buying wax paper sheets from Costco or Amazon and place over food you heat up in your microwave. Prevents splatter and keeps your microwave cleaner.
Thank you for sharing your trials and tribulations with us, I thought this only happened to us when it comes to household maintenance!!!😅
Great job Jeffrey!! You should be proud of yourself. Your getting there. When everything is done youll love it. Cute little Stella shes just worried you will leave her, she needs a little friend for when you leave and go shopping, how about a Yorkie?🤗
Jeffrey with all this snapping of metal, please be wearing safety glasses while you do this AWFULLY FRUSTRATING job. I would be in tears and that drill would be across the room! 😑😂
Hi Jeffrey. My boyfriend has worked in construction most of his life so I showed him the problem you were having and he said to use star tork screws for decks. Pretty gift you got and I've noticed that jar to the left of your stove... that is so pretty. Love your videos keeping us up to date. Kisses to Stella 🐕🦩
That's exactly what my husband said he should use.
That drill you got is a great brand
Watch a CZcams video on how to screen those cabinets together. My husband put all the cabinets in our kitchen but I did not watch him. I know you need to make sure everything is level. It's very important for when they install the countertops.
I’m sorry your project was so frustrating. So many times I thought jobs would be quick and easy but became a nightmare and jobs I put off forever went without a hitch. 😖
You did a good job. You'll be able to build a house by the time your done fixing things
OK well I know nothing about tools but my contractor gave me a tip on this kind of situation. He said he always rubs the screws on a bar of soap and it helps them go right into the wood. Apparently helps with the friction/resistance issue.
I get the hiccups too when eating pretzels.
That color of green beans is called 'already cooked'.
I love Freddie's!
The trinket dish is awesome! Great job sticking with it on the cabinets!
Wakin Up With Folgers In your cup!!
Ahh, the Pub sub!! You have arrived!!! Welcome to Florida. 🌴
Yes. Predrill
For future reference a zinc screw is actually just coated in zinc. The screw itself is steel. The zinc coating is used to prevent corrosion. Do you have an Ace Hardware near you? I prefer going there as the stores are smaller and you have a better chance of finding someone to help you. They also have a handyman service.
omg what problems!
