The Resident Evil 4 Remake Is Nearly Perfect

- After waiting what felt like forever, the Resident Evil 4 remake finally dropped it was way better then I got could have ever imagined. Everything from the game play, characters, tone and level design was fantastic and gave Resident Evil 4 a true feeling of survival horror. Having said that, it wasn't perfect.
Two things can be true: Resident Evil 4 didn't need a remake, and Capcom knocked it out of the park. There is no contradiction in those two statements.
Stop saying it didnt need the remake. The original looks awful by today standards and controls are shitty

The Mercenaries DLC is confirmed to be free, but Separate Ways will likely be paid due to their plans to expand on it. Speaking of Separate Ways, data miners have found U3 mentioned in the Separate Ways files, and the other Salazar bodyguard that mysteriously disappeared midway through the game is referred to as U-III in one of the in-game files. So it's likely that Ada fights the other bodyguard in the upcoming Separate Ways campaign and that he transforms into the U3 similar to what we remember.
I kinda like this change since it ties U3 into the story a little better than him just being some random monster to slow you down, and his placing in the game was always weird that he just kinda shows up right before Krauser, making the last few chapters essentially a boss gauntlet.
Also Seperate Ways actually wasn't included in the original release and technically was a paid addition due to having to buy the PS2 version in order to access it
Separate Ways wasn't the only extra in the PS2 version, and it doesn't make it a "technically paid addition. It's just that the PS2 and future ports included more content than the GC version.
That would make sense actually if the second Verdugo mutates himself into the U-3 since he was the scientist and Salazar probs did send him after ada to get rid of her

And when the world needed him the most, he uploaded, side note: Mercs is a free dlc
Also correction: Separate Ways was not included with the launch of the original game, it was added after the GameCube port. I would also consider Leon's line at the end of the main story to be a tease at it being included later.
the original is a timeless classic. its controls make complete sense within the context of the level design and enemy behavior etc. because the handicap it puts on the player is designed around, that game cannot and will not ever age poorly. even graphically i think it holds up better than a lot of other games from 2004, mostly because of the quality of the animations (shoutout mgs3)

Although Ashley was improved in this game overall, I will die on the hill that her ai is way less efficient. She literally runs towards my aiming reticle.
Yeah she was annoying in the original but she would stay out of your way. The "spread out" option is honestly worse because she goes toward the corner of the room and half the enemies split up and go after her. I found it's best to just keep her behind you
I thought I was going insane. Everything I've seen so far is how she's way better in the remake. Her character is maybe, fine. But her AI is unquestionably a step backward.
Ashely was never bad. That's why I'm confused when I see people claiming that the remake "fixed her". Fixed what exactly? In terms of writing sure, but as an escort mission she was always fine. I would argue that the original RE4 was one of the first and very few games that handled escort missions well.
@BadAssMacmillan yeah her ai never gave me issues in the original. The new system has some weird proximity bs that makes her run towards the enemies half the time lol. Again it's manageable. But definitely less predictable and therefore, less efficient.
Yes this is an actual problem now hahaha and people just keep quite about it but for whatever reason say she was annoying in the OG no she was not 😂 she sticks to ur back like glue whenever u need to aim and ducked right away if she was infront of u it was fine in all honesty.
Saddler had almost no presence or screen time. Even when Ada fills him full of lead, the scene was rushed. the original scene took it's time to show how that did nothing and you see the bullets moving out of his body. He even smiles at such a pathetic attempt.
Salazar's performance needed more emotion. He was so stiff.
Krauser's backstory was nice, but he didn't need to be a sympathetic villain.
I'm guessing U-3 didn't fit in the story somehow. It's strange, on one hand I hated fighting it, but I still wanted it in the Remake.
Did anyone else feel the pacing was off? The game is still as long as before, but sometimes I'd think "Oh, It's this part already?"
great video :) i think saddler was pretty good in this game tho. the voice actor was doing a great job and the radio hacks being swapped for him communicating to everyone with the plagas parasite, commanding them to stop leon and ashley, was a worthy replacement in my eyes, making him quite a bit scarier. its a shame about salazar but i agree that i dont see how they couldve kept him the way he was whilst maintaining the tone of the remake canon
U3 seemed pointless, so I don't miss him. My only issue was Ada. Otherwise, I thought it was brilliant.
Nah. Remake 4 is 10/10. But it’s 10/10 cause it’s RE4 with modern controls + parry.
At the end of the day this “serious tone” didn’t do it any favors.
Leave it to the Re community to be brainless, or at least a section.
What I mean is that Remake 3 got a lot of critique by noobs because the iconic “I give you stars” line was put in a section that could be cancelled by a punch to the face.
These hater noobs didn’t react and got shamed.
But for Remake 4. Sometimes we get this “Serious” Leon. Then we get “classic” Leon because RE4 is an actual classic full of memorable lines which the remake paid respect to… which clashes and essentially makes Leon feel like 2 characters in 1 body.
So again, Remake 4 is 10/10 just like RE4.
But most opinions will come down to personal preference.
Like while I’ve heard many say “so many rooms are harder”, me and other feel the opposite. Like how the lower section of water room is actually an easy clear with a flash because almost all enemies are programmed to become Mandíbulas, so we use our resources to create a combo. Parry in general is the nail in the coffin to an already easy to control positioning in gameplay, even the profesional change to parry is a small skill ceiling that tells people to Git Gud.

But my conclusion is that this Remake Trilogy has been very fun in general while at the same time all 3 originals also deserve some level of respect.

It might be just because of how I set up for the fight but Sadler only got one hit on me. After I got the striker, sniper, and blacktail leveled up to where I wanted them I just dumped all my cash into getting the Butterfly at full damage and stocking up ammo. It'll be interesting to see how much harder that fight is on professional since I probably won't have a broken ass gun with tons of ammo to dump. However I'm definitely gonna do the golden egg cheese.
The Mercenaries is already confirmed to be a free DLC on April 7th, separate ways however probably won’t be like that but we’ll see.

As a PS5 gamer, the first half of 2023 has been great for new games. The second part of the year besides Spiderman 2, not so much. RE4 remake is a stellar gaming experience. They made enough about the original better in the remake, that it has made up for the gems it missed from the original. it's so far GOTY - i'm not sure what that says though about originality when a remake is taking the top spot mind you.

@12:40, I thought this part of the Remake was awesome; it was a standout for me. It's one of the only times you have such a situation, and it's nerve wracking and fairly challenging to juggle fighting the Regenerador/Iron Maiden while trying to keep Ashley from being taken. It's TOUGH, and I love it. There weren't many places in the remake where you had to balance self-preservation and ashley preservation - most of the time, those were one-and-the-same, so this section being one-or-the-other was brilliant.
Its really not that deep though. You can just stand still and kill the enemies on her side, then triggr the enemy on your side makes 1 last enemy appear on her side, kill that last one fast then no worries for her

For the U-3 boss, I was sad that it was cut but immediately understood how unimportant it is. But it will always stay as one of my top favourite bosses
O I was Soo excited that was gone…I can’t stand boss fights like that, o the enemy can slice you into ribbons but you can’t hurt him at all until you break 3 baskets? Suspended chain link boxes??? What the hell even was that fight?!?!? I can’t stand how things are always hit thinks three times or need three keys to open something….it’s just annoying
They even made Verdugo U-III's designation, not even mentioning the fact that there are two of them in red & black, but the black one that normally gets consumed in the Salazar boss fight is just gone after his first cutscene...

@josh dude don't get me wrong I've already beaten this game 4 times already I'm not hating on it but some stuff could have been better the constant stun animations if Leon gets hit he can get comboed into oblivion the dead zones on the anologs on Xbox could have been better the enemies mostly shrug off head shots but thats probably because of the movement system being different than the original some of the textures like to pop in sometimes but it's not that much overall it's still the best game I've played it's better than the original by far so it's re4remake then re4 original then resident evil 2 remake

I didn't like the original but saw it's potential. I love this remake. It firmly has a place in my top ten games of all time while the original wouldn't have made my top fifty. I think it improves everything I liked and got rid of all the shit I hated. Doing another playthrough currently.

I heard the mercenaries mode update is supposed to be free for the remake, did I hear wrong? Also I don't really miss the u3 bossfight I didn't think it was that great more so annoying to me. Honestly I just prefer the remake so much more than the original with all of the changes they made and I think we are getting a separate ways DLC eventually too.
I disagree the original had more content and handled pretty much all the characters' stories and personalities better with the only exception of Ashley and Luis, I replayed the original after the remake and I had more fun with it, too much realism, Leon being nerfed and slowed down (he can't make ganados heads' explode with his melee moves anymore and runs and moves quite slower) and how he is too serious and less charismatic, Krauser turned into his teacher who is just an illuminados lackey and who has no goal in the story except "power" and being a douche to Leon whereas in the original he was Leon's comrade who was a double agent who didn't really work for the Illuminados but for Wesker and wanted to create a new world order helping him forge a new Umbrella, an Ada with no charm or personality and a dull voice, Salazar having a way less spectacular transformation and boss fight, Saddler who only meets Leon in the last part in the game only to take a bullet to the eye looking like a chump, no U-3, no laser room, and how slower and less spectacular Verdugo and Krauser's boss fights are in the remake didn't make it as cool as the original was for me.

Honestly, Saddler not giving Leon crap over the radio was sad, but I did find Salazar giving Leon crap through his speakers was funny to me. They made him so old-fashioned so instead of jacking the line and using a radio, he used old-school tech to taunt him, which I liked, especially when you can silence him by shooting them. Regardless, I think this game deserves props and to exist alongside the OG, we just can't live without both with just how great they are!

RE4 remake was awesome! The only complaint I have is that I wish that they'd included some of the ideas from Resident Evil 3.5 like the Hookman.
Forspoken's voice acting is fine (it's the rest of the game that fails). Dont jump on the hate bandwagon. Same cant be said for Ada in the remake
Honestly, I cannot see what the hype is about this game. I never played the original, but I have beat the original resident evil one too and three I bought resident evil four remake day one and just yesterday I am literally getting past the chainsaw guy and now there’s a horse head guy I’m stuck on why would they make the beginning of the game so difficult? I have completely lost interest in it but I keep bumping into these reviews saying the game is so great. What am I missing?
The village opening? U just have to kill a set number of enemies(cant remember how many) or rundown the clock

You’re literally just at the beginning of the game so obviously you can’t see why it’s great if you’re giving up already, if anything just lower the difficulty, plus you don’t need to kill the guy with the cow head just go around him
Glad to hear it is good like RE2 2019 and not poop like RE3 2020. But, the cuts and changes weren't necessary or asked for. Guess mods will fix that.
U3 being gone is the best thing they made, it was soo annoying and pointless. I also hated it from a speedrunning point of view, gotta waste 30K on it.
It was the scariest part of the game imo... On the first playthrough, when you didn't exactly know what to do other than just running away from it. But replaying that part is less appealing bc it's hella scripted. The second part (where you properly fight it) was lit tho.

It's not fair compare the content of release of the original RE4 vs the remake... I'm ok with the new content being paid dlc, the game is a master piece in my opinion... Plus production cost it's not the same as it was in 2005, hence why I'm also ok with paying as long as the content is on pair with the quality we received with the main content.. I have to disagree with saddler and Salazar take.. I take them more serious now than I did in the original game, the more mysterious take on saddler made me one to know more rather than his cheezy encounters over the radio.. at the end while the game is a remake I feel it's best to take the games in separate light.. remake is more serious and had me more engaged with the story.. og it's an amazing product of it's time hence more corny and cheezy at times
(Acshually) RE4 costed a lot of time and money, I mean, there made like 3 versions before they came up with the RE4 we know and love. Plus, the graphics and polish was out of this world for 2005.

T he biggest L for the game is Weskers voice. You can't change it, it was perfect.
The second biggest L was the voice acting. Leon, and Ashley were fantastic. The merchant took getting used to but was good. Krauser and Ada were horrible. Although I feel bad for the actress who got harassment and closed her SM accounts, which was very uncool. It's one thing to voice displeasure to Crapcom but she was just hired for a Job.
Don’t agree with the Ramon bit. He was like a pantomime in the original. He is much scarier in the remake.
Mercenaries will be free, and Ada's stuff is likely a proper DLC, like RE3 remake, except that was a full game xD. The game originally didnt have neither of those things, it was the ps2 version that got it later down the line.
Salazar is lame in the remake, so dearly missed to be honest. Saddler, i'd beok with his new version, if we had a proper Salazar, not every enemy has to be camp.
