I have the Maglite and it's never failed me, I also learned some stuff about it here. I'm also subscribed now!

Good review. I agree with your conclusions. I own both, but carry the Streamlight on a daily basis. I like the brightness, portability, and rechargeability of the Streamlight. However, if you need a true beam instead of a flood, the Maglite is much better. On a fresh set of batteries, the XL200 casts a good beam a long way. You can identify objects farther away with the Maglite.

Ive owned my xl50 maglite for close to 12? Years i believe now. Its never failed me.
Ive also now owned a micro stream for about 4 years. Using these lights every single day i can tell you some things...
Mag is olenty bright, throws a good beam, reliable as all hell.
Streamlight is a decent size physically and my likes end there. No real beam to throw light at any great distance. The run time sucks for any of us that actually use our lights. Being a 3.7v cell you cant just throw another battery in if it dies, you gotta wait 4hrs for it to charge to get another 1hr of light out of it... ive had to replace the tail cap switch about 6 times in 4 years now...
The mag wins all day long in my book.
12 years old, 100% stock 100% reliable to this day.

Yes, Maglite has definitely let Themselves lag way behind in Technology ! In my opinion they are at or near last place. SAD !

The strobe light feature would actually be useful in a self-defense situation. Also, how would you feel about using rechargeable batteries in the Maglite?

I use EBL Nimh rechargeables. Not a noticeable difference in brightness or beam distance for my purposes. Only thing is, you need to rotate the batteries systematically when recharging because cheaper chargers will not compensate for differences In voltage between individual batteries. The odd number of cells means it’s easy to get an uneven charge and scratch your head wondering why your light is dim on a freshly charged set lol. Or don’t be cheap and get a charger that charges each individual cell independently. But I’m cheap lol
