Wild Solitude - 5 days solo bushcraft, camping in all weather conditions, woodstove, canvas tent

  • They say here in Scandinavia you can experience four seasons in one day. That certainly happened on this 5 days bushcraft camping trip. I was actually there for a full week, took two days off from filming for the heck of it. Didn't film the first 2 days, so when the video starts I'm already in it for two nights. The weather was truly nuts. Most of the time cold but sunny, then rain or light snow would come in the same day. Calm winds one minute, crazy wind storm gusts the other. First few nights weren't too cold so I did not bother using the stove, but on the last days I was getting -10 celcius at night. Great fun.
I took some shots of me packing/unpacking my gear and food bag, for the curious out there. The secret is in organization. A little OCD packing goes a long way.
I made 4 paintings on this trip, threw 2 of them in the fire (subpar) but managed to come home with 2 good small painting studies for larger work. I also carve a Brummer ( Scandinavian word for bull roarer ). It's an ancient ritual musical instrument and a device historically used for communicating over great distances, you can learn more about them by googling "bullroarer". They are great fun to carve and use.
I hope you are all keeping safe from the invisible threat out there that shall not be named, and that this video brings you some distraction and takes you to a calm and relaxed place. Take care of yourselves. New videos every week, thanks for watching! - Ric

Ric, I came back to this video because it was almost a year to the day you released it. I truly miss you, our online friendship and communication. In my note to you then I mentioned that your videos were your calling and I I believe that still. You brought so much love and quiet to our uncertain times as well as guided us through your forest. You were a true ecologist and bushcraft innovator. I will never forget you as you travel through our memories. In your honor, I'll be getting your "Nagualero Tribe" logo tattoo this summer. Please hug my Mother when you see her in Valhalla!!

I must say I found that no speaking and just watching what you do was a better experience for me. I think people dont take the time to just listen to nature sometimes and it was really cool that you do this in your vids. Keep up the great work.

Now we're being led to a slaughter and a totalitarian system of governance where we will have zero rights and freedom.

If you are in the wild you have a lot of things to do which is hard to show in a 10 minute video. So if you do this and still are able to paint such fantastic paintings it means you have the urge to do it. Besides that I like the artistic style you have in your vids. No stupid talking - I mean no talking at all but still they say so much. Just love your videos. I could watch this in a cinema drinking a good red wine.

Another awesome vlog. So many linked scenarios you just make us wait with anticipation for the next scenes to fill in. The Australian Aboriginals used what was called a " Bullroarer " as a means of long distance communication and for musical entertainment. So nice to be reminded of them as I grew up with them as a kid living with Aboriginals on our property. What a better way to see our world from in your vlogs as we are decimated by current constrictions. Bushyboy Oz.

Somewhere across the lake, there was another camper. When you pulled out the bullroarer and wound it up - he got scared and ran off. He figured the mosquitoes around there must have been HUGE to make that kind of sound! 😁
ATB my friend. Your video calmed me right down after a day of tension. ♨🎨🥓🥚🍁

Epilogue: right after watching this video, I went out and purchased Ric's print of the painting he showed at the start. Its sits in loving memory in my home office.
