  • This video is about how to move to Nigeria with a child. Tola talks about her move from the UK To Nigeria.
This was a fantastic chat because I FINALLY get to talk to a parent who moved back with a young child (2 years old). Tola moved back in 2016 and explains her move back to Lagos, Nigeria. She starts from why she decided to move to Nigeria as a single mom, why she feels comfortable putting her child into a private school here, talks about NYSC, talks about taking a pay cut of over 50%, breaks down how to get a nanny, and recommends certain hospitals in the city. This was such an informative interview with Tola!! Loved it. This is real life in Lagos, Nigeria.
    1. 1:00 (why she moved back to Lagos Nigeria with her child)
    2. 5:43 (looking for a job)
    3. 7:00 (salary for jobs)
    4. 7:56 (NYSC)
    5. 9:06 (Worried about stigma as a single mom)
    6. 10:32 (Would she do it again, moving back to Lagos Nigeria w/child)

    8. 17:42 (Process for choosing a nanny through an agency)
    9. 21:47 (Difference between UK/Nigerian school, goes on to talk about price)

Education was a big motivating factor that my father wanted us to move to Nigeria. The only thing I would tell parents (especially if you are considering boarding school) really consider what experience you want your child to have especially if you are not around to monitor them. Boarding school can be rough even in the good private schools make sure to have good communication with your child so that you aren't finding things out after the fact

It literally just watched this non stop from afar it appeared like ladies' chitchat but I ve learnt quite a lot.I m really second guessing my recent move to the UK ,on discovering the heavy tax culture ,but at the same time the exchange rate makes having a dual life in Nigeria very attractive.Being a doctor, I mostly have a physical job so earning virtually isn't really gonna work :) .My final submission is that being dual is the best way for a human to live u can have the best of both worlds ,I will definitely look back at Nigeria because it's the place where no one will ask me for my identity but also establish a firm footing in the UK.

I finish my masters in higher education and was interested and working as a principal in one of the international school. My son is 11 and I am a single mother. My son is high functioning autism but a straight A student. I’m nervous about the schools for my son. I’m not worried about adjusting to Africa. I just want to say that my younger sister who actually got most of her education abroad relocated back to Nigeria to complete her secondary education, which was a private school. Also she attended a reputable "private" university in Nigeria and she finished with a 2:1, from there she came to the UK to do her post graduate degree at Birmingham University. And again she did brilliantly. My point is, don't rule out Nigerian universities, depending on her interest.

Great topic my dear, try to b-roll whenever possible, use stills, or stock video to cover portions of the interview to lessen the talking head effect. Also, you can do stand up inserts, and narration tracks throughout the piece to sumerize or explain complicated information spoken by the guest.

Security depends on what part of Nigeria you recide. Southern states are well secured. Northern states not too secured due to Islamic fanatics.

@@ADE-of-LAGOS I was raised in Lagos by higly educated middle class parents. If that's the case, why are many Nigerians still poor? I could tell Iveoma was not ready for the bourgeois transition she had. Not hating at all...I've enjoyed my fair share of luxury but the interview would have been so much more realistic from someone who never had that easy life before they went overseas. I have met a lot of people who have never been to Lagos except to go to the embassy before they travelled. So forgive me if I do not share in your enthusiasm.

@@LAFONESS Is it not fair to present returnees of different social class per their origin? As there are poor Nigerians, there are also relatively fewer well to do ones. They all need to be showcased. Nigerians being poor have nothing to do solely with education. As a yoruba, wealth creation was part of our culture before entry of Europeans, and thats why we have a word called "Aje" (commerce and wealth) in our vocabulary with a deity so named. But the system we are copying plus the greed of the so-called leaders have "killed" the wealth creating part of the people across board.
