I have a very similar tool chest I purchased in the early 80s from Canadian Tire with Canadian Tire money that I had saved up, except mine has 6 of the small drawers on top. Mine has a metal "Mastercraft" badge in the middle of the cover where yours is missing. But I also know that those tool chests were manufactured in Canada by a company called Beach, which was located in Smith Falls, Ontario. The same styles of chests were available in other places badged as "Beach". Over the years I've bought a few more tool chests because of my expanding tool collection, but this one will always be with me!
That was a nice gift from your neighbour. The only thing that my neighbours ever give me is the leaves off of their trees each fall. I have a small machinist chest from Beach that I inherited from an old job. It is extremely nicely made. I also inherited some Grey socket wrenches from my dad and i suspect they are over 60 years old. I've used and abused these things for decades and eventually I'm sure my son will do the same.
