In many industrial use cases, you're not even allowed to impair the employee field of view for safety, like a surgeon operating or a utility technician making repairs in a power pole, so the Apple Vision is a no go from the start. They definitively serve different purposes.... but my guess is that if Microsoft could get away with not making the hardware and just selling the software that runs the business applications, they would probably ditch the Hololens as the hardware is less profitable.

HoloLens is/was really forward looking. Indeed, HoloLens was marketed only for Pro users - unlike the Apple Vision Pro (can you actually release a consumer device for 3.5k and get away with it? :)).
However, I think the projection technology has failed HoloLens. While it allows the HoloLens to get away without the advanced see-through cameras, it has two major problems: (1) half the field view of what the Vision Pro has, and (2) not-so-great contrast especially in bright environments. These limitations change the experience significantly. I really wish Microsoft continued their development for HoloLens.

The irony of the Microsoft + Google creation of AR headsets is, their hardware is always way ahead of its time to the point where they do R&D for Apple. Apple takes the work, turns it into an ecosystem, then it all gets released to the masses.
Now as for the big-ass table, that could've totally turned into a futuristic Holodeck.

Dear Sam, I regret my purchase of an S23 FE. Don't know if I missed a vid u might have done on it, but since it's waterproof, it's only good for boiling water for a cuppa as the battery runs out while tbe CPU runs hot even when the only app open is gmail.
So, I ask that you have a menu of brand, model & year on your Funkytime platform so subscribers can link to your review vids before purchasing a dud. 😢

VR could be my next PC if: it was within 2000euro, full dive...VR but also AR option, with hi res screens, powerful computing or additional external source(virtual or real computer), if it could be used to play games, use it as a camera phone... for that money it should be possible.
No need for ultra precision, as long as basics work.

And the tech inside HL2 is capable of stuff way beyond what Vision Pro is capable of. Microsoft has barely even begun exploiting the bleeding edge hardware that HL2 is based on. Vision Pro is based on old VR-only technology, not AR-specific innovations.

The hololens 2 was released almost 5 years ago and was a true AR device, in contrast to the Apple vision which is just another VR device with cameras. The hololens was targeted at industry and wasn't planned for the consumer market, not before improving it and getting it lighter and cheaper. However, they stopped development. Apple on the other hand is selling another status symbol to people with too much money.

They have made a consumer friendly affordable device that plays games with immersive field of view and controllers. Nope sorry I was mixing that up with the quest.
