  • September flights, weather spotty, winds blowing 10 -- 15 mph with gusts to 20 mph. Cooler temps nice although we've been flying in between rain squalls. Sparrows and Starlings beginning to return.....finally. Viewing actual size or full screen is best, Handsome covers a lot of ground, turn up the volume, enjoy.

    Excellent video work. Amazing kestrel. I had one as a pet nearly 60 years ago when I was 13 and 14. He gradually reverted back to wild on his own. Having him for two years was an incredible experience.

      Glad you enjoyed the video, you're right, amazing little Kestrel, loves to fly and of course plenty of character. Many thanks for the comment.

    Nice video, I just finished reading your book the kestrel primer, I’m going to be building some of your designs for perches and housing over next few days here in the uk, thanx 😎

      Happy to hear you were able to find something of use. Both the round perch and Kestrel Condo are of great use. You'll have to let me know how they work for you. roberteiser3@gmail.com. Thanks for the comments.

      Robert W. Eiser hello, I’m getting the kestrel this Sunday , I’ve built the condo frame and I’m going to cover it with a stretched black cloth similar to shade screen you use and tonight I made a giant hood, your book has been very helpful,next I will be trying your wooden bead swivel as kestrel swivels are so fiddly

    Excellent flights I could only get flights like that when I flew a brancher. Is your bird an eyas or passage?

    • @RobertWEiser-su8tp

      Handsome is an eyas taken at 18-20 days of age, trained like a Prairie Falcon, I got lucky, the boy likes to fly. Thanks for the comment.

    I found a male hit by a car in road. He is on day 3 wing wrap. If he can't fly after wrap I will give him a great home he is already spoiled, eating like a hog! Very funny personality too.

    • @RobertWEiser-su8tp
      @RobertWEiser-su8tp  Před 4 lety

      Keep your Falconry or Rehab license current as Kestrels like all raptors are protected species. Good he's eating well, good food is critical in recovery, hopefully the wing heals so you can cut him loose to terrorize the world once again!

      Many thanks for the order, it should prove useful. You'll have to send photo of your girl. Totally different plumage than males, nice looking birds. Have fun training and flying.

    You kestrel really fly well. I my self still working on my Kestrel. He kept landing. It is difficult to teach him waiting on. Could you give me some suggestion on it.

    • @RobertWEiser-su8tp
      @RobertWEiser-su8tp  Před 3 lety +2

      Try to fly in an area that is void of things for your bird to land, wide open spaces are good, no poles, no fenceposts, no buildings, no trees etc. To get the bird to take a pitch you might try flying in light wind for starters, cast him off the fist, as he goes up reward him for the effort, he'll soon figure it out i.e. going up means big reward. Have fun and keep him flying.

      @@RobertWEiser-su8tp Thank you so much Sir! your trick really helps My kestrel now could stay on wing for 20 seconds I tried to improve the duration tho... however, it seems he still did not understand to take a pitch. He just stayed on wing on repeated flight height.

      Take your time, Kestrels can be slow to develop, keep in mind what you are wanting him to do is not typical Kestrel behavior so be patient. Falconers are teachers, teachers teach, let him develop into a good student. Windy days, within reason, are your friend.

      Hi Robert, my Kestrel now could stay on wing for 1 minute and 15 seconds in windy days... thanks to your advice
      I am planning now to introduce him to baggies and hunting later
