    TIPS:
    Another good substitute for baby shampoo is the Aveeno baby shampoo with Oatmeal. It has moisturizing ingredients in it that are good for hedgies!
    Make sure your shampoo's are unscented! Scented poo's can cause respiratory and skin irritation problems!
    Make sure your shampoo doesn't have TEA TREE OIL in it. It is TOXIC to hedgies and they can die from even the smallest traces. This goes for everything, even your hand moisturizer and lip balm. Better safe than sorry!
    I forgot to say in the video, but NEVER LEAVE YOUR HEDGEHOG ALONE IN THE BATH... NEVER. I have heard stories of people who left their hedgehog for LESS THAN A MINUTE to go grab a towel and their hedgie drowned, in water less than 2 inches deep. It has happened! So please never leave your hedgie alone!!
    Also, don't bathe your hedgehog too often, it can cause dry skin and skin irritation. It is only really necessary to bathe them when they are dirty or smelly. :)
    Hope you like the video! If you have any questions feel free to ask!

      I just suggest that you use cotten shavings in his cage and not a blanket so they can stay warm an fun fact the hedgehog is not a part of the porcupine family they actually come from the shrew family and shrews are diggers and hedgehogs are to so please make that change thanks great video btw 😄 keep up the good work

    At least u didn't put him on his back and make him float 😞 I've seen so many videos on that and it's just brutal... you can't tell they're freaking out cuz if they do, they'll drown, they have to stay in that one ball position to float... and good job for including the wet thing :) but u did good :) that's pretty much how I clean my hog. However, I usually put a cloth in the bath so that he gets some of the poop on his feet off himself when he walks or so that I can brush his feet on the cloth instead of with a toothbrush. I do this cuz I wash him every day, so if I brushed his feet with a tooth brush every day he'd get a rash. However if I use a soft washcloth, he doesn't. I'd recommend simply using a light stream from a sink to wash off the soap... same affect. Just make sure it's light and that ur hedgie is comfortable with the temperature.

  • @Coco-mq7yu
    @Coco-mq7yu Před 9 lety +6

    Hey, thinking of buying one of these cute little critters! Of course, I have some questions!
    1. How much do they cost?
    2. Would a glass tank be suitable for a hedgehog?
    3. Are these an ok pet to leave at home for a while until I get back from school? I would give them LOTS OF ATTENSION before I leave and when I get back from school!
    4. Would bedding for a gerbil/hamster/guinea pig/rabbit be ok, or would it be better if I used baby blankets? Or something else?
    5. How often do u clean/change the bedding?
    6. Are these suitable animals for a teen?
    7. Are these ok to have around friendly dogs? ( I have two Chihuahuas )
    8. How many meal worms should I give them?
    9. Basic food suggestion, like the brand?
    10. Are they hard to take care of? Your opinion!
    These are just a few, off the top of my head! If you know any answers, please leave a comment!!
    Thank you,
    ~Coco

    • @isabellah.9002
      @isabellah.9002 Před 9 lety +3

      Chloe Dunham 1.) They range from about $125 to $300
      2.) A glass tank is not recommend because of poor ventilation, your best bet is a large Guinea pig cage
      3.) They are perfectly fine to leave at home alone in their cage while you are school. during that time they can rest because they are nocturnal
      4.) Yes they are perfect for a hedgehog, they can burrow in them and hide away. I would not use baby blankets (personal preference) because they cannot bury under something.
      5.) If you choose bedding it won't have to be changed as much as blankets if you litter train your hedgehog or you section off the bedding where your wheel is (hedgehogs use the bathrooms when they exercise) you can just change that section, but if you don't you have to change it when there is poop everywhere or your bedding is sticking to the bottom of the cage. Blankets is more work, when i had guinea pigs their blankets were constantly changed washed and their cage reeked. Bedding is the way to go!
      6.) Yes they are most definitely, they may seem scary to pick up because of their quills but they don't hurt unless they puff up into a ball, if they do that while holding slowly lower your hands into their cage, lift on hand away from the hedgehog and gentle roll your hedgehog onto their bedding and let them calm down before handling them. Remember they are just a scared as you are.
      7.) I would not suggest introducing them until your hedgie has become comfortable with you. Always watch them so your dogs don't step on them and injure them.
      8.) There are more than just mealworms, there are crickets, silkworms and more. I would not give them a large amount because they can make them gain weight and possibly become obese, so it would be more of a treat. Suggested per day is 2-5. They love to run and exercise is very important so they can stay healthy and keep off the pounds.
      9.) Mostly hedgehog food is sold online and are pretty expensive, where I am there are no places that sell hedgehog food. What a lots of breeders do is mix cat food, this a mostly used within hedgehogs. When you get your hedgehog some give starter food, check your breeder to see if they sell food for them, if they don't ask what cat foods they use and buy them.
      10.) I find hedgehogs to be fairly easy to take care of (get one at first so you can get use to taking care of one before you buy another, but they prefer to be alone.) All they need is a little love and attention and they will be perfectly fine.
      Extra tips
      - If your cage is not big enough for them to run around invest in a wheel 12 inches or bigger and make sure it has a flat bottom and not wire, they can get injured if they slip through
      - Make sure your vet has an exotic pet doctor. Hedgehogs are not often seen in vets and regular vets cant take care of them.
      If you have any questions message me and i can get back to you asap :)

      @SebastianVreeburg Před 8 lety

      Make sure they are legal in your state is you live in US. They are illegal in Georgia and California and Hawaii and other states. They cost around $150-$300. They can use the same bedding as your rabbit as long as it isn't cedar because it is toxic for them. They need I think around 15 or 39% percent protein and low fat cause thy gain weight very fast. You also NEED a wheel but it must be solid no mesh because they can break their toes. A glass container should be good with proper things inside it make sure it's big enough. Also you need a heating lamp to make sure it is always I think 75-84 degrees f. Otherwise they will go into hibernation. It should be ok if you go to school because you said you'd give lots of attention and you should give them around 45 minutes minimum of attention a day. Treat include small Beatles and mealworms and some other things but they love mealworms. They can't have grapes and chocolate it will kill them. I also think they can't have avocado.

      No. Please do NOT use Dish soap! Certain chemicals found in dish soaps can really harm your hedgie. If it gets in their eye, or in a more sensitive area, it can burn and sting, Also, Dawn in particular can cause very dry and inflamed skin. Please look into buying a non scented baby shampoo. :)

    I love your videos and your animas! but one thing I don't like is you waking up your hedgehog. you should let it sleep and do videos when it wakes up

      You still need to!! It’s so important their skin can get dry and flaky so you need to wash them so that does not happen.

      And I recommend not using a tub! Because if they drink their poop water they can get sick
